I was kind hoping you would re copper plate these and shine it up. With the brass fittings that would have looked awesome too. Very cool, great job. I cant believe how flawless that glass lens was too.
@randomrestoration68582 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree, I think this would look great as a copper plated piece. It really seems to have been both plated, then painted from the factory which is a very odd choice haha. If I had a sophisticated enough nickel and copper plating setup I'd likely have re-plated it, but without a heated plating tank and a water agitator an item the size of this will almost always come out with a very junky looking (uneven) plating. Right, it cleaned up so well even around the edges which was a bit of a surprise to me! Thanks again for watching, Frankie!

Thanks! I reckon a polished finish copper plated would look very nice with this piece as well. It's odd that they plated the parts and then painted them as well. I also saw this with the Russell and Erwin 0128 mortise lock I restored in the video you watched yesterday - The case was copper plated then japanned. I'm working on some copper plating tests for some interesting restorations I have planned in the future, so once I get it working reliably it should pop up more in future videos. I appreciate all the likes and comments!

You can put some dish washing liquid on the grommit, it will pop right in. Also, the base had a (perished) felt cover, not cloth. I think it would have been much nicer with good quality new felt instead of the lackluster and now dirty new cloth.

Why not use self-adhesive felt instead of fabric you had to glue? Love the paint.

Thanks for the question, Becky! The main reason I used the cloth was that I had it lying around for a long time and figured it was the perfect opportunity to put it to use.
