I never planned on having a kid, but if I did, I would hope one day they would take the time to restore their Dad's tools he used to get stronger, and pass the iron down to their kids. Nice video man. :)

I'm the kid and that's what I did today, my dad's weights have been sitting there for the last 20 years, and as a 16 year old who doesn't have money to buy more weights, going to the attic and finding at leat 30 extra KG was like finding gold.

A good trick I have used on rusty old metal stuff is to buy a wire wheel that has a drill attachment on it from Harbor Freight for a couple bucks, make sure you get the steel bristled ones and not the brass. The brass will get so hot that it will actually start plating your piece with brass as the bristles melt. Which is pretty cool if that's your plan but not great for most pieces lol. Chuck that bad boy into a fairly high RPM drill and blast away. It cleans stuff up in just a few minutes. It took me about 5 minutes to get every speck of rust and grine of a 50lb post vice that had been laying on a barn floor for probably 100 years. You need to be sure to wear safety classes and a mask/bandanna because it kicks crap up like crazy, but I really does work fast. I used to dabble in blacksmithing and used this method to clean all sorts of stuff. The weights came out looking great, pretty awesome setup with lots of sentimental value. Bet it's coming in handy right now....

pressure washer works wonders too on the narrow nozzle as u can, or a trip to the mechanics or fabricators who will sandblast it for you , they wouldnt charge much at all since itsa 10 min job and is cheaper than buying all that oil and vinegar etc

I prefer to leave all mine rusty. That way they are still considered original. Once you repaint them they are considered restored. . If that's what you like and your keeping them. That's fine. You can buy cast iron black polish and you don't have to paint them. But.... Its whatever you like.

I built my home gym with used equipment. Some of the plates and solid DBs were fairly rusty. I just took off the worst of the rust with a wire wheel and spray painted with Rustoleum. As long as they are kept indoors that's all that's needed. You did a beautiful job, just seems like overkill to me, lol. Did you clean all the oil off before painting? Think that cooler is ruined too.

Hi, just wana know....would I really need to put clear coat at the end (or after the 2nd/3rd coats of paint) or would I need to put clear anti corrosion spray? I heard is optional on each/both ideas. Reason why I'm asking is I already sprayed two coats of Primer then 2 coats of Dulux Enamel Paint over it. I was told Enamel has rust protection.
@DavidBertossi
@DavidBertossi 4 жыл бұрын
I would assume its best to first spray with anti-corrosion spray and then with a regular paint, but i would not worry about it, the plates will probably last years without rust

@1EVILZ06
@1EVILZ06 4 жыл бұрын
Why? If they are 48lbs they should read 48lbs. If they are 66lbs they should read 66lbs.
@behaviormatters7415
@behaviormatters7415 4 жыл бұрын
1EVILZ06-Because tracking weekly progress in increments of 5, 10, 15, etc is more convenient, now obviously that’s just my opinion.
@1EVILZ06
@1EVILZ06 4 жыл бұрын
Bobby Digital But you can’t track the progress in those increments. Because the weights don’t weigh what you’ve painted on them. So your tracking is off completely.
@behaviormatters7415
@behaviormatters7415 4 жыл бұрын
1EVILZ06-Well sure, marking the weights their exact poundage is more accurate, but for guys like me, I don’t consider my gains to be “gains” unless it’s at least a 5 pound improvement. So if I mark a 66 pound dumbbell at 65, it won’t matter if it’s off by a pound because I won’t recognize my improvement until I’m pushing up 70.

Just shows iron plates are for life ( not just for Christmas) and the best investment you will ever buy without your health all the money in the world is useless. Still have my weights and kettle bells after 15 years used daily and even though not as clean as was just as functional as the day I invested and probably worth more than I paid originally.
