Knowing my Dad did all those wonderful, improvised "use-what-you've-got" shoe lace and twine fixes when he was only a young school boy, would make it tough to remove them. On the other hand, being able to actually use my Father's boyhood glove, would make it worth it.

I highly recommend neatsfoot oil it really penetrates the leather better than the mink oil...or Olive oil.Don't freak out when you first put it on it looks a little crazy but as the oil seeps into the leather evenly the leather looks and feels amazing...then hit it with the mink oil to maintain the leather.I restore a lot of vintage suitcases and purses and feel the neatsfoot or olive oil work best.Great project!You did an amazing job restoring this antique baseball glove...I am sure your Dad was proud when he saw the glove restored...as it demonstrates your love and appreciation for such a special gift from your father

What do you think about using coconut oil to soften leather?
@denasewell
@denasewell 4 жыл бұрын
@@emmagatewood3898 I use olive oil it is less expensive than coconut oil but you can use any oil it may not last as long but you can always use what you have..Coconut is good for polishing

Glad to find this video! I have my Father's, Uncle's, and Grandfather's basball gloves that are in very neglected shape and was wanting to recondition the leather to use in a gift for my Father and Uncle. This is just about as perfect a tutorial as I could hope

: Hello Kyle Noseworthy. I was impressed on how you refurbished your father's baseball glove. Back in the 70's I worked in a sporting good store where I learn how to relace softball and baseball gloves. I was taught by a gentleman who had been relacing gloves for more than 20 years, his name was Gil. Just a little history. After viewing your video I went and pulled out all of my old 50 year old baseball gloves. Not like your dad's mines were in very good condition due to the fact that I had use glove oil and condition the gloves prior to putting them away. The reason for this comment is If you condition your glove properly they will last for quite some time. I had conditioned my gloves when they were brand new and a little touch up here and there over a period of time. Avid player, 3rd Base, catchers and left field. I am 69 years old now and I play catch with my five-year-old grandson who now is playing t-ball. LOL. OUTSTANDING INFO VIDEO ⚾️ 👍 ⚾️ 👍 ⚾️ 👍

Love the video and will be doing the same with my 50 year old glove. I was wondering what the difference is between mink oil and mink oil paste and if there are advantages to using one over the other for a glove restoration.

This is a good how-to for baseball glove restoration. Those of us who want "just the facts, ma'am" would like the narrative to be shorter and the steps condensed and speeded up. Thanks for the info.

Hello, I really liked your video, I’ve been wanting to do the same thing to my grandpa’s old glove that he gave me when I was very young. Unfortunately I don’t have the skill set or the resources to do so. And I just wanted to ask you if you would restore it for me. It would mean a lot to me. I’d be more then happy to pay for the service and for any materials and shipping costs. Please consider it, thank you.

You may call around to cobblers or shoe repair shops in your area. I have a guy around me that will fix anything made of leather, gloves, purses, shoes, etc.

This video might be entertaining for those looking to get an old glove as a shelf prop, but a proper glove restorer would actually get it playable again and to hold open, which requires the heel and palm to be relaced. Please use actual glove lace and not boot lace, and be sure to follow the original pattern and knots. Gloves may look as deceptively simple as lacing a shoe, but there are a lot of intricacies to glove patterns that are crucial to their structural integrity.
