That's great, Jeff! Another thing that could help with jaw joint pain is giving yourself a slight underbite (just 2-4 mm of jutting your jaw forwards). It should barely be noticeable if at all to anyone but you. What it does it relieve stress on the jaw joint if you have a jaw that is slightly too far set back as is the case for a lot of people. I also got rid of my jaw's clicking sound when I started to work out my jaw muscles with chewing gadgets. And I bet the extra musculature does help in keeping the mouth closed during the days and nights, further benefiting jaw health.

This works perfectly, since I'm a child I was told I was suffering from a deviated septum and I had nose surgery like 9 years ago, but I'd always find myself breathing from one side or other side, sometimes fully clogged, sometimes I could breath normally, I did it as Patrick said, for around 10 min I went nasal breathing only before and after the exercises and I can tell right now that both of my nasal nostrils circulate air like they should, I can fully breath through my noses for more time, definitely something worth learnt! @kazman_6899 Жыл бұрын
How would you have got it fixed? This idea that they can just snap the septum back in place within a week is weird to me. It doesn't account for the inner structural damage. That's more of a cosmetic fix. If you're talking about correcting it surgically, there's no guarantee that this will unblock the passageway/s -- and it may not be a permanent fix (could re-deviate within a few years). It's better not to injure the nose, obviously. Unlike other bones and cartilidge, the nose is so sophisticated that it cannot just heal itself. I don't know how fighters fight. All of them must be damaged in terms of breathing, sense of smell, illness, etc. There's no way they're bringing those things back to their original functioning after one or two hits, let alone a half dozen. They should be bringing light to the dangers of this. You don't see much about the preservation of the nose in our culture, and probably because it's big $$$$.

I really want to believe you that this process will eventually work. However, I have been trying this method for about 3 weeks and I still have to try the nasal decongestion method 30 times a day or more. After doing the method, my nose is only clear for a couple minutes then I have to once again labor with continuous concentration to pull air through my nose to breath. After about 15 minutes I can't keep it up and my nose has started to fully clog. I have sever rhinitis and I literally can barely pull air through my nose. Even with large nasal dilators like the Turbino, I still can't breath through my nose. I don't have a deviated septum, its just purely rhinitis. Occasionally everything work like its supposed to and I can breathe through both nostrils, but 80% of the day I can't. I also have pretty bad nasal collapse, so doing intense physical exercise and solely breathing through my nose is super difficult, loud, irritating, ineffective, etc. etc. I'm trying everything I can to fix my sinuses, and I was hoping this was the cure! Unfortunately it hasn't been.

@@dan27music Hi Dan, thanks for the advice. As I mentioned above months ago, I was eating KETO and eliminated wheat from my diet for months. I still had rhinitis daily. Having moved past KETO to explore other food-associated issues, nothing changed/improved. I even did visit an Allergist MD who told me that I did not have any food allergies and an allergy to wheat expresses itself rather immediately, which I do not have. After having stayed pretty strict with the Oxygen Advantage protocol, I have nearly (85%) cured my chronic rhinitis!! I am no longer on ANY medication and can even breath through my nose while running which is completely crazy to me. However, I still suffer from an unknown trigger to nasal congestion since it will creep up in random times throughout the day and especially at specific activities like sitting on my couch. I think I am just super sensitive to dust/pollen/dog hair/ things I tested super allergic to 5 years ago before I received 4 years of allergy shots which did not improve anything. In conclusion, I am very happy with the results of this protocol as it nearly cured my ailments. However, I think my nasal passages are still deformed like the illustration of the child with the poor nasal pathways AND have a moderate allergic reaction to most air-borne particulates which still manifests as mild rhinitis. I wear a Turbine nasal dilater at night to help open the nasal passage to breath. Oh, also I am upside down like doing a handstand in yoga, I immediately get congested in my nose and can't breath, don't know whats up with that either. Possibly my nasal passages are so small that even a change in blood pressure around them completely closes them up. Still exploring information around that issue.

And "then let go and breathe in through your nose" and "Rest a minute with normal breathing" please provide specifics. i.e. should we go for deep breaths, if normal breathing is through the mouth, should be we breathe that way?

Hi, Abby. Normal breathing is not through the mouth, you should always breathe through the nose, both during the inhale and exhale. Here is the nose unblocking exercise explained in detail: Take a small, silent breath in and a small, silent breath out through your nose. Pinch your nose with your fingers to hold your breath. Walk as many paces as possible with your breath held. Try to build up a large air shortage, without overdoing it. When you resume breathing, do so only through your nose. Try to calm your breathing immediately. You should be able to recover normal breathing within 2-3 breaths. Constant nasal breathing. If your breathing is erratic or heavier than usual, you have held your breath for too long. Wait for a minute or two before repeating the breath hold. Repeat this exercise five or six times until the nose is decongested.

Patrick will this help my nasal snoring issue? 🙏
@OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
It could @trishaavia1186 The best way to improve our breathing at night is to address our breathing during the day. If you mouth breathe during the day it will contribute to snoring. We usually advise daily functional breathing exercises in conjunction with taping the mouth at night (www.myotape.com). With nasal snoring mouth taping may be less effective. But improving the issue begins with practicing daily functional breathing exercises. Hey Tim, same with me here, always had colds, bronchitis, asthma even and now blocked sinuses, but since l heard about the Buteiko technic a year ago, l have been consciously in the daytime closing my mouth and gently breathing through the nose, and it has become a habit that l very rarely break - only sometimes at night my nose gets stuffy and l start opening my mouth to breathe but l semi awake and close it again. It has become a lot easier and l would also say even though l am 42, my facial bones have changed slightly, l seem to have a better bone structure, but there is still work to do. Good luck!

Hi, yes, nasal breathing is very important. The child should be explained that when they breathe through the nose, they look more intelligent, that nasal breathing is good for sports, good for dental health, good for concentration and school, etc. You can also visit our pages for children buteykoclinic.com/crookedteeth/ and buteykoclinic.com/buteykochildren/ to find out more.

@OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Hi @calisryan If you keep your mouth closed and breathe through you nose, usually it shouldn't clog but that can change when we're in bed. Try propping yourself up with a few pillows. If you're lying flat, don't lie on your back, lie on your side. Left side is usually better. If you sleep with an open mouth (do you wake with a dry mouth?) you may need MyoTape (www.myotape.com) to help keep your mouth closed during sleep.

@@OxygenAdvantage thanks for the reply! Didn't expect one. My clogged nose is usually triggered by lack of movement, meaning when i sit down or lie down then it gets clogged, its not phlegm though. I read online that there are tissues in the nose that can get filled with blood and it will narrow the airways, which is why when I move then blood flows to other areas of the body. But I'm wondering how normal people breathe through their nose if blood also gets stuck in their nose tissues. Or is there anything I can do to prevent blood from staying in my nose tissues. I tried propping up my head but it results in me getting bad neck pain because of how bent forward the neck is with a high pillow.
@OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Hi @@calisryan Learning functional nose breathing exercises should help. When we nose breathe we pool more carbon dioxide and nasal nitric oxide in our sinus cavities. Both of these gases are vasodilators which means they open up the blood vessels allowing for more blood flow to the brain and throughout the body. Also, learning to exhale slowly through the nose helps maintain CO2 and nitric oxide levels and also helps to initiate the body's parasympathetic nervous system, a.k.a., the body's relaxation response. You should start with breathe light exercises to build up a tolerable air hunger. You can then move up to breath holds to build up an even stronger tolerance to carbon dioxide. However, breath holds should not be attempted if you don't have any pulmonary issues, any serious medical condition, pregnancy or a history of anxiety or panic disorder. In those cases, stick to breathe light exercises. Our free OA breathing app has the exercises that will help. 📱 Android Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oxygen.advantage 📱 Apple store: apps.apple.com/ie/app/oxygen-advantage/id1589260950 Thanks for the comment.

When I take a big deep breath in through the nose both of my nostrils close up, luckily I can still get some air in though. It is still happening even with a breathing strip on my nose. I am going to experiment with taping my mouth closed, at night and a bit during the day as well. Also, I have had a very weak sense of smell for many years, sometimes I can't smell at all, sometimes I can smell OK but even then I can't smell as well as I would like. Can I expect improvement, if I ensure that I eradicate mouth breathing????

Wow. I just tried this and noticed how air hungry I get so I’m opening my mouth to breathe. I tried breathing through the nose instead of opening my mouth, and my nose feels clearer. I suffer with TMD and I wonder if it’s from not getting enuf air thru my nose cuz I’m not a nose breather.
@OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Hi @dori588, Breathing issues and TMD are closely linked so it is certainly possible. If you're having trouble with the air hunger, take a break but only breathe through the nose if possible. Mouth breathing will reverse the good work you have already done.

Thank you for the exercise, Patrick. Do you advocate taping the mouth shut when you sleep and is that a good idea if one has rhinitis? TIA
@OxygenAdvantage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jing. Rhinitis - common symptoms are a stuffy nose, runny nose. For nasal problems - the only way to deal with nasal congestion is that you hold your breath until a strong air hunger. If allergic reaction with stuffy nose is present, then you need to do strong breath holds. Nasal rinse with good quality sea salt would be helpful as well as breath holding. Also, nose breathing during sleep is very important. Nose will be less stuffy if you tape up. You need to breathe through nose at all times during physical exercise. This is tough at the beginning but gets much easier.
