Hi Ben and Dawn! You have outdone yourselves once again. The wall looks really good and will maintain well over the winter and be ready for adding the roof next Spring while the fireplace is absolutely gorgeous!!! You have done an amazing job in rehab and get it to a place where it will keep the house, the kitties and all of you toasty and cozy all winter long. It looks wonderful and I am envious of how beautiful it has turned out. Kudos to you Dawn for finishing responding to all the comments ! That is a huge task and very difficult to accomplish without real dedication and commitment!! What you have both accomplished is truly inspiring!! Thanks so much for bringing us along and see you both next Sunday!

This is exactly it, not having money is a right pain at times but it does also have its benefits too. My dad has always made and done everything when we were kids. Very little was bought ready made, he made it all and most of it made out of old pallets and lots of time. You’re so right with the brain never shutting off though. I have to listen to a talk radio station at night time otherwise I’d never sleep lol

Dawn, your wall looks amazing, that one stone that’s bugging you, might not by the time spring comes around, although, knowing your standards - it will! The fireplace is stunning, I for one would not be painting it, but staining or waxing it, as for that beautiful arched vent (flap) I would leave it as is - in all its Victorian splendour, if it were painted, you wouldn’t see that amazing iron work. I for one do NOT expect a reply or comment, you’re far too busy and your time could be spent renovating. I don’t know how you do all that you do - greatest respect to you two 🫶🏻 x

This is why I love you both, not only do you do the very best you can at whatever job you are doing but wanting to reply to every comment is what's makes you so different from every KZbinr but honestly Ben and Dawn although it's lovely for you to reply or just acknowledge the comments it really isn't necessary but love your hearts for caring so much about your viewers. Being a perfectionist can be a pain at times Dawn because it doesn't matter how pleased you are with something if you think it isn't perfect it's that bit that you always see, if anything that could change that one stone is simply turn in over so you then have a straight edge instead of slight bump but honestly Dawn you have done an absolutely fantastic job with that wall, I doubt there is another stone wall anywhere that has been built with so much love and care you really should be so proud of yourself. The same with you Ben, who would have thought that awful green painted fireplace that could not be used would ever look as good as it does now, most people would have ripped it out and thrown it away but look at it now - stunning - I can imaging the cats all lying in front of the fire and everyone who comes to visit will be stunned at just how beautiful you have made the fireplace look. The best part of this week's video though has to be the end - the smiles on your faces was just so lovely to see bless your hearts. Sending you both and the kitty cats much love and hugs xxxxx

I do sometimes wish I wasn’t so much of a perfectionist…it’s a pain in the backside at times lol it makes me work too slow and precise but hopefully in time I can keep the perfectionist edge but be able to work quicker the more I learn stuff. Dawn, had you not pointed out the stone I would never have noticed, fabulous work! Ben the fireplace is not done but it looks good! Maybe some Christmas baubles soon. It's so wonderful to have a wood burning fireplace...I could sit and watch the fire for hours.... So glad it's warm in your rustic little nest. To get to this comfortable point is always huge for KZbinrs taking on the whole restoration challenge and it's always a relief for viewers when you're warm and comfortable. As much work as it all is you are miles ahead of all the nonsense in the Western World right now and nicely ensconced away from it all. Even on your worst days know that many of us envy your little haven.... ♥️🇨🇦

Ooh yes it’s going to look great at Christmas! 🎄 there’s nothing quite like staring into the fire is there? It’s a very calming activity. Dawn, the one stone will never be noticed once you put the top edge and the roof on that, it’s lovely and you’re looking a it too closely. Ben please look into some sort of fireproof paint or epoxy for the surround, it makes me a bit nervous for you guys that the woodworm treatment is highly flammable and petroleum based, all it would take is a spark to set all your hard work ablaze. I would be completely devastated for you guys if that happened!! The surround did turn out so lovely though, and I’m so glad that you guys didn’t have to cut the metal flap, it’s so beautiful! 💚✨😊
@thecornerhouseprojectКүн бұрын
That is very true with the stone not being noticeable once the roof goes on. Once the preserver is dry it’s no longer flammable so it’ll be fine now and then when we paint it and that drys it’ll be even less flammable. Ahh yes we’re very glad we didn’t have to cut the flap too.

I must say you two have definitely gotten use out of that marquee you bought for the temporary workshop. Seeing it like a cape on the gable wall was an Easter egg. That fireplace is so beautiful. Ha! Here's a comment. 😄! Yours is the only channel I've seen that even attempts to respond to every comment. ❤It was so wonderful when you first started, and I was amazed. I read all the responses, and I hope others do, as you put a lot of time and information in them. Dawn, I'm sure the gables were never constructed as well as you've rebuilt it. You've learned so much doing this project and it's fascinating to watch you apply your new skills. I am so excited to see that fireplace paint removed!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 I feared it was some type of 1960s tile and you'd be stuck with it. That, and the blue paint all over the house. 🤢 Ben, you've done a stellar job removing it. (I totally get the frustration with the Velcro on the sandpaper. IDK why it lasts such a short time.) You can always cover the top of the mantle with a table runner or doilies, as they did in the old days. Removing that paint focuses attention on the beautiful Victorian fireplace tiles, which are worth quite a bit on eBay here in the the States, if you ever need fast cash. You have become quite the carpenter this year - don't sell yourself short! A question you could answer in your next video: Why is there a semi-circular opening behind the fireplace? Was there a larger on there originally? Those kittens need a job. Maybe you could set up your laser cutter and make cat Christmas ornaments to sell to us viewers. 😉
@thecornerhouseproject2 күн бұрын
Hahaha oh how I love the image of the cats getting a job! Like little Christmas elves! 🎄 Oh yes we’re very happy having that painted removed as well. I liked the sage green colour but really wasn’t a fan of the coloured splodges. The wall looks grand I would leave it until next year when u start the roof as u might have to add to the gables. Fire place has worked out great and listening to u talk about the heat in the room brough back a memory from a you tube channel called . “Escaping the matrix for good”. It’s a great channel on a little homestead in the uk. This guy took out the heating system in his house and heats it now with two wood burners. Here’s his trick. In the room where the wood burner is he cut a 100mm hole in the ceiling and put in a bathroom extractor fan to push hot air up stairs into bed rooms. His videos are funny and worth a watch. He didn’t post often but go look. As for me I started the painting of the bed room and bought second hand wardrobes and chest of drawers which I’m painting now too. I have a car trailer and it’s great for going to lift second hand furniture etc when it comes up on gumtree. That trailer has paid for its self big time. Keep well you too and keep going

Yeah I think you’re right. I’m sure it will be slightly not right as we don’t know what stones have fallen over the years, so there may be a few more missing. What a great idea….working in the same principle I suppose of a caravan heating system? I will go have a look at his channel, thanks. Ahh yes that what we keep saying we need to get but first we need to get a towbar fitted! Soo many times we could have done with a trailer. One day we will get one. We’ve been lucky so far in that we’ve been able to pick most bits of furniture and the front door in the car but it’s just not quite big enough. It gets a 6ft long 3ft 6 wide wardrobe in it with the boot lid open! lol But it will most definitely NOT pick up a Stanley range once we fine one! 😂 I always forget about gumtree for stuff. Had a bad experience with gumtree in England when selling one of our cars! Must remember to look on it though as I only check done deal and Facebook marketplace for stuff. You keep well too and hope your back is staying good! 😊

Fireplace is looking fantastic as it stands, it's going to look awesome once it's stained/painted and done with stove black. I can just imagine sitting inside in the winter and being all snug infront of that, bet the cats love it. Big raincoat and wellies for the wall for winter 😂.
@thecornerhouseprojectКүн бұрын
Oh yes the cats adore it! It’s become their most favourite room to sleep in! They’ve got it right though, it’s soo cosy in there at night time now. Hahaha yes it kinda ran away with the thought of keeping the wall winter and weather proof!

It's all looking good. Just make sure the back of the wooden fire surround at the top rear doesn't get too hot. May be beneficial to use rockwool insulation on the rear of it or backfill the entire inset stove with vermiculite.

Now that the fire surround is stripped back I can understand why you wanted to keep it. I had a hard time when it was the confetti paint scheme imagining that. The metal works really are impressive. Nice Job. Also Congrats on finishing that wall!
@thecornerhouseprojectКүн бұрын
Haha yeah we were never very keen on the confetti paint job either. I did like the sage green background but not the colours on top! Aww thank you, I’m very pleased to have finally finished it. I definitely miss doing it though 😔 spring will come round soon enough though ♥️

Dawn, you've done a fantastic job, be proud of what you have achieved. Re: The fireplace, you could get a piece of wood to sit on top as the mantlepiece that covers the full size maybe? You could have whatever finish you wanted on it then, and the joined on piece would be hidden from view, just a thought. Love what you're doing.
@thecornerhouseprojectКүн бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I think we might end making the mantle piece a bit thicker ♥️
@steffieswaddling8432Күн бұрын
@@thecornerhouseproject if you have a router you could recess the existing mantle into the new piece to obtain a seamless look. Depends how much work you want to give yourself!
