Greetings from Australia! I own a modified Focus XR5 (ST225 in your language) and there can be a number of weird things these cars do. Two things to check when the car starts doing strange things that seem totally unrelated. First thing to check are the connections to the BCM (Body Control Module) located under the glove box. Remove and re-seat all the loom connections going into the BCM, as sometimes a bit of oxidation on the loom connection contacts can cause all sorts of strange issues. Second thing is the instrument cluster, over here in Australia we are now seeing a number of strange faults being generated by dry solder joints on the cluster PCB as the solder starts to crack with age. Please see the link below on how to re-solder the cluster PCB from our Australian RS/XR5/ST225 guru mechanic. Regarding the gear changing issues, check the cable linkages at both the gear lever end and the top of the gearbox to make sure nothing is fouling on the cables and stopping their proper movement. When I fitted as RS500 airbox to my XR5, I couldn't select reverse and a couple of the other gears were very hard to select. Turns out when I fitted the airbox I accidentally moved some cables that subsequently fouled on the gear selector linkages causing my shift issues. Hope these suggestions are of help and keep up the great content ... lovin' the RS and ST225 content of late :) oemdenied.com/index.php/instrument-cluster-repairs-

The oil temp gauge will be linked to either the abs fault (usually the cable) or a map sensor fault. The same issue also sometimes stops the gearbox going into 5th and 6th. Crazy I know, but it does. Edit..it's usually the ABS cables. I'd strip them down top to bottom and do them again.

I had abs and traction problems on an E39 BMW. Changed sensors, all 4 but still had problems. Turned out one of the rings was bad. Got it replaced and problem solved. Mind you it didn't cause any other weird problems. Problems like these drive me mad to the point where I give up and send it to a professional. Keep up the good work.

I dont know if its the issue but the speedo unit causes all sorts of issues.as the alarm and pretty much most of of the electrics run through it.they are well known for all sorts of issues.also i believe if you have a aftermarket ecu holder the witing look xan can chaif through near the bell housing on the gearbox.i had a boost solenoid go on mine wich caused all sorts of boost issues.not to mention the alternator and the oil filter housing. Diaphragm in oil filter housing went.aka pcv and causes a massive vacuum inside the engine.

The ABS sensor is also the ring in the hub\bearing that can cause issues if there is a contamination problem with it. On Minis it causes a trifecta of fault lights, ABS/DSC/TMPS. Did you just put a new sensor in without cleaning out the hole etc? Think it's that easy? 😁Get some cans of brake and clutch cleaner sprayed.

I have the Mk2 Focus RS, and I've been through every issue you can imagine lol! I do believe that oil gauge reader is an estimate which goes off the coolant temp level, I know this isnt any help, but that gauge is useless anyway, what I do know is the wheel speed sensor can cause a problem with gears 5 and 6. I believe if this sensor is broke, you cant go into 5th and 6th while driving & this can also knock out that oil temp reading!

The oil temp and pressure gauges are more just for novelty and dont work in the traditional method. They are just estimated values by the ECU and various sensors so when part of the electronic system goes down they can be affected. Im guessing the ABS wire on the opposite side of the car to the one you repaired is also stretched and thats your ABS fault. You cant see the wires broken, they stretch and break inside the rubber insulation.

I wouldnt say the oil temp and abs light are related. Id suggest checking the wiring to the MAP sensor connector as they set at an awkward position at the back of the connector, the MAP sensor is directly connected to the PCM/ECU and if that signal is lost youll get erratic faults. As for the ABS light id say check the ABS rings in the hubs and replace one or both.
@EVILGT

Both Bearings are brand new though so it doesn’t make any sense that they’d be the problem unless they are faulty 🤔

I had a similar issue with ABS, albeit not on a Ford but it turned out there was corrosion in the sensor holder and that made the gap between the sensor and the ABS ring on the shaft too big so it couldn’t pick up the teeth with the magnet. Also another time the ABS ring on the driveshaft had cracked due to corrosion underneath making it expand this then threw the sensor off. Perhaps it might be worth a check. Keep up the good work!

I’ve had the same dodgy problem on my mk2 ST. The magnetic pick up ring for the abs will be rusty on one of or both of the front wheels. It shits itself and stops the oil temp and pressure gauges, switches off the reverse interlock, rattles the abs in once you start moving and seems to over fuel the car at the same time, the fuel range also stayed static. New wheel bearings fixed mine, yours might have been the sensor and it just needs the code’s deleted.

I thought you would have checked pipes first before recommending the MAP sensor 🤭😂 *even after market pipes rub, i add an extra jubilee at the the rubbing point. **Ford are that tight they used top end ST looms on their RS models, that explains why the wires are so tight to begin with. The RS is wider, you need to add quite a bit extra on that wire buddy allowing you to loop it over the brake line then to the speed sensor 🤘 Use forscan (free) and you can monitor each wheel and what speed it's doing. You need to check the solenoid on the gear lower gear stick, it's linked to the abs system and will lock you out of 5th and 6th and ALSO locks you going past 5th gear making it hard to select 5th. When the solenoid is working correctly 5th is beautiful to select. If it's been unplugged previous owner knew it had issues and unplugged it to stop it from letting you select 5th n 6th. If it's plugged in either the solenoid is faulty or the ABS fault is causing it to not partially activate.

Well done Sir and a fun video, I am happily therefore sitting through 'additonal promotion' 😁 Also a lot of patience you have on the RS refurbishment. Time for a classic EVIL GT 'brekkie run' soon I hope, see if Lee is up for it. Line up the Carlton, the Range Rover and the Mclaren in the car park, earned it boss! Cheers, doing well here, keep at it please. Thank you 👍💯

The oil temp is calculated from the ECU not a sensor as you may expect. The usual suspect is the map sensor. Have you read the abs fault code, cheap sensors are usually bad news.
