Jay, just wondering... my railing are on painted concrete and older 2006 Trex decking. Will there be a problem using the acid to my surfaces under the railing?

Great information, thank you. My powder coated lawn chairs have small areas of rust though. Do you happen to know if they can be spray painted after sanding the rust areas and thoroughly cleaning them? I have heard that powder coating can’t be painted over. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the kind words. Powder coating is a bit tricky as it is slick and hard, so more prep is needed to be able to paint over it. Here's a link to a company that discusses it in further detail. Are there any types of railing that don't need restaining / repainting? Not wood, not powder-coated steel or powder-coated aluminum. Composite? PVC? Aluminum with something other than powder coating?

I don't have any direct experience with these types of products. There are trade-offs as the materials that are very low maintenance don't tend to be very strong. Composite must be reinforced with stiff components. PVC and vinyl as become increasingly popular, but you need to get elements that are strong enough for the place you are putting them. If there is going to be a lot of leaning on them, and there is a drop outside the railing, that isn't a good recipe. I'd do some searches on deck installers and home railing systems and see what you can find. I do know that cable and tensioner systems are becoming quite popular as well. I hope this helps.
