Fascinating process and well done. And the price being essentially the same as a new boot doesn’t surprise me at all - we just essentially watched boots remade to perfection so it makes sense that they’d cost about what a new boot would. Bravo!

Some people like that. Some like my format. I chose this format for a bunch of reasons. The main one is that I would feel foolish talking in english, just to reach a bigger audience, when my main market is in Sweden. But plenty of american cobblers narrate their videos, dragging them on for up to 30 min. I'm sure you can get your fix there, and as a change you can watch my format if you like.

Great video. I had a pair of similar RMW boots (leather soles) resoled and "restored" by RM Williams in Australia a few years ago. They told me there was nothing that could be done about the leather cracking, but from your video I see that is untrue, they can be fixed. Unfortunately I don't get to Sweden much! I will have to find a cobbler closer to home who can fix!
@devonwelch80142 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. He did do a great job on restoring them, but once the leather is cracked like that they’re is no going back. The glue will fix it for a while, but eventually this cracks will open back up. The only way to prevent that is by taking proper care of your boots, and cleaning and moisturizing them when they become dirty or dried out.

The only caveat to his is that Blake stitching limits the resoling of the shoe in future. That said, blundstones aren't going to last as long as other Goodyear welts, so it's up to wearers preference

@justinphillips34 жыл бұрын
were these repaired using good year welt construction, or is this another method? also how well is gluing the upper likely to hold up?
@davidsonsshoerepair4 жыл бұрын
No. The Yardboot is a special construction with glued and nailed/screwed soles originally. I opted for a similar repair but with stitches instead of nails/screws. I did much more than glue the upper. I glued the largest cracks with a neoprene based leather glue, tapped them and then started a tedious work with filling the rest of the cracks with a combination of products. Many, many applications and sandings. How it will hold up over time is up to the customer. It will require some TLC of the boots, but the repairs tends to last much longer than I had originally thought when I started doing these jobs. Time will tell, but I recently started and it will require many years before I get enough feedback on how it ages.

I just want to replace the gussets on mine, would have thought hand stitching would be better, using the holes already there instead of introducing more holes with a machine stitch and weakening that area?
@davidsonsshoerepair3 жыл бұрын
A good cobbler hits the old holes and doesn't perforate the leather more than necessary. I would say it is standard to do that kind of work with a machine.
