Restoring Rusty old hunting pocket knife 70s. Knife restoration

In this video, I'm restoring an old rusty hunting pocket knife. It was made in 1960-1970. I decided to remove the rust and restore it. I made the handle of the knife from bog oak. I hope you enjoy my restoration.

Around 1965, I bought exactly the same Soviet-made knife in the USSR. It still sits in my desk drawer. Good job.

These knives where common up to the 70s because shotgun cartridges where brass and cardboard, where as now they are plastic. In damp conditions the cardboard cartridges could get stuck in the chamber of the gun so needed to be pulled out manually.

Great job restoring this , when l was a kid l always had a pocket knife , a Cub Scout , then a Boy Scout , now l always have a leather man ... l wonder why they aren't popular anymore.

@@davepearson6478 No; it is not intrinsically illegal, in the UK, to carry a standard pocket knife with a three inch blade or smaller. If you have good reason, you can carry it. Lock knives are illegal to carry; large knives require a very specific demonstrable purpose. Any knife can be considered to be an offensive weapon if it is being carried in an inappropriate setting, like at a football match or in a large crowd. Police here use common sense in deciding such things, but they expect you to use common sense as well...

@@Kvitebjorn257 Everyday carry is not a "reason" in law in the UK for any kind of weapon. Guns of any kind are a no-no. A gamekeeper has a demonstrable major reason for carrying a gun, but only while he is gamekeeping. Out of hours, his gun stays at home. Similarly, a diver needs his large knife, but only while he is diving. Small pocket knives can be carried, but if a policeman judged you to be carrying it in an inappropriate setting, he would be within his rights to arrest you, and you may be charged with carrying an offensive weapon. When I go to the pub, my pocket knife stays at home.

I have a old boy scout knife my Dad gave me -i believe its from around when i was born-1968. that i would love to clean up and possibly carry it but don’t wanna break it by trying to take it apart-afraid something would go wrong is all. Этот нож называется охотничьим. Это советский нож. Вот те рожки спереди, это приспособление для извлечения патронов 14 16 калибров из охотничьего ружья, после выстрела.

СТИЗ, пожалуй, единственный совковый завод который выпускал более менее приличные ножи. И то, на вывезеном из Германии оборудовании. Кстати этих "охотников" было четыре генерации, но по совковый традиции все пошло по одному месту уже после первой.

в видео новые заклепки из алюминия и расклепаны заподлицо.В оригинале заклепки стальные и расклепаны в полусферу,крепче и больше материала фиксирует накладку.

2:20 it's combination bottel opener and can opener, And i have similar can opener in my pocket knife. You have idea how its proper way to use? Couse i try it in some experimental way and its not comfortable. And i didnt found any information on net yet. Excelent job.

I remember these USSR-made folding knives. They were cheap and widely available. Despite the low quality of materials they met most fishing and hunting challenges. The condition of this very knife is perceived as uncertain. Corrosion and rust seem to be the only impact factors. On the one hand, the knife looks like it has lied unused for decades. The blade and the tools have not lost their geometry, which may mean that they were not sharpened. On the other hand, the handle scales are broken or cracked, which is the sign of destructive effects. Anyway, thanks for good job, for giving new life to the folder. Тю. Почитав коментарі. Зазвичай ножі, що в нас трапляються дуже зношені. Сам здивувався, що геометрія ножа так збереглась. Можливо його закинули через те, що накладки тріснули.
