Just a personal opinion but I agree with your dad. It’s had its fun in its current form i think going back to standard looking like oem+ would be perfect for this car. So many have been modified. Original looking stage 1 focus st must be the sweet spot for these cars surely 👍🏼

Get rid of the wrapped roof! Standard badges- Needs a bloody good detail mostly- a good machine polish outside after the wraps been removed, those crappy eyebrow plastics removed and a wheel refurb and service will be a great start then see what you actually need to spend money on 😎

Go OEM+ remove all odd colours, refurb wheels in silver, drop it on some springs, 20mm rear spacers, 15mm front spacers, replace badges with originals, remove rear light tint, remove those eyebrows, get the front bumper sorted, replace lower grill with zunsport one, remove the roof wrap and leave it white. It will sit nice on clean wheels and won’t look like a typical asbo ST just tastefully modded. Also if it hasn’t already, get a full RS clutch fitted, new forge actuator, forge recirc valve, if it’s stage 2 those will benefit the power massively. Double check the coolant hoses for bulges as they tend to blow holes so maybe replace with PRO hose ones. Then just a full service and full detail will bring it back to former glory! I’d go for the oem+ look, deffo ditch them eyebrows and tinted rear lights as they look cheap IMO, I’d have the alloys refurbed to silver and I reckon the roof doesn’t need wrapping black again, I’d leave it body coloured to match the car

Kms thunderstorm exhaust has it had the block mod done ? Keep the brakes upgrade the pads n discs change the brake pipes to braided power flex bushes all round think that might cover it 😂👍🏻👍🏻

Crease on the bonnet is due to the plastic clip inside the bonnet lock partially breaking so if your lucky and push down on the bonnet while turning the key it will unlock, hence the crease from pushing to hard 🤓🤓

As for the missfire look into the possibility of cracked liners, get a borescope in there because if it is gone he can forget the cosmetic for the 1500 quid as he will need that and more for the engine. Recently replaced my engine after owning the car 3 months

Not even a question, go standard, at most id have it slightly lowered with a map. Silver on the wheels, get rid of the roof wrap, peel off the white badges, the blue should still be under there. If you do go back to silver, get the slightly later blue Ford centre caps. If you can find some, get a pair of the 2007 spec prefacelift headlights with the black inside then. I had a mountune one about 10 years ago, it was the best car I've ever owned, and don't think I'll ever get a car that made me smile so much

I love a bit of Ford hot hatch content. Another shoutout for the Block Mod. Especially if you've no history of it ever getting done. The first thing I did when I bought one. Its a ticking time bomb without it. It can go on a low 30k car or at 150k. Simply know way of knowing. Definitely look at going down the more stock route. So many of these cars look like they have been covered in glue and dipped in halfords 😂

I’d get that engine checked over before you spend any dosh on it. Hopefully the misfire isn’t due to a cracked liner, look for coolant loss & pressure build up in header tank, lumpy running after start, excess condensation from exhaust and signs of water in the oil. If it’s stage 2 it’ll have an RS clutch or it’d slip like mad. Torque mount upgrade makes a huge difference to gear shifts. Mint cars, can’t beat a 5 pot ❤

The rust patch on bonnet is common with people pushing it down paint mustve split mate also could be due to an old bonnet key barrell that was dodgy when opening it up, people pushing the bonnet down to release the bonnet latch

If it's running lumpy start with basics of the service. Forget the mods but bulletproof the engine with the block mod as they can suffer. Once it's done then look at upgrades. But go back to basics with some minor touches to help improve the appearance

It's mad, I usually run older cars as my mortgage kills my income each month but about a year ago I switched from a 2.0t A3 Quattro to a 118d 2010. Apart from changing everything from the timing chain to brakes, while doing the shocks I was shocked how clean it was underneath. Most of the suspension arms etc are aluminium, the rubber boots all in great shape and more importantly the ball joints and everything felt tight. I got rid of the audi as it needed rear shocks and when I looked underneath it looked like that focus and in thought ill never get that apart, the BMW however feels like it came from Las Vegas nothing was seized, now I know what you were paying for for BMW, pity the DDE messes up every other month lol.

From experience the engine will eat your budget up as they cost a fortune to mod. The standard clutch is made from chocolate in these so hopefully being stage 2 it’s had an RS clutch put in. Oil filter housings tend to fail and find out if it’s had the block mod done 👍
