I just restored a similar C850D-11K with the same APU, but slightly different construction details. It got a new SSD, a new battery and I'm now waiting for a used keyboard and a new WiFi/BT-module to arrive. I bought the machine in a very bad and dirty condition and basically did the same job that you did. Love the feeling of giving neglected old things a new life, no matter how big the effort! Mine is running with (Bodhi)Linux now and works so much faster than you'd expect from an old machine like that. Great job and great video of yours!

Dear Andrew, You did a great job showing everyone how you upgraded your laptop into something usable. I recently upgraded my ASUS laptop to 12 GB of RAM from 4GB and added an SSD by taking the optical (CD) drive. Replaced with HDD/SSD caddy. It improved my specs but I find my CPU working way too hard on windows 10. I want to replace the old thermal paste and completely clean my laptop like you did. It must've taken quite some time to complete your project. Windows 7 seems like a better option as well. Overall, excellent job, Andrew. Sincerely, Richard

The fixes Andrew applied were very inexpensive; however, if others would like to add a better GPU by taking out the onboard wireless adapter it may be cheaper to go with a newer laptop with better specs like an HP.

Video well done Cat and Andrew ! , One thing to notice , The HDD shouldn't be in the Drive bay , because it uses less Power, and on shutdowns , restarts or sleep , the reader stop suddenly without having time to reset it's position , that harms the hard disk , you can search it up , instead put the SSD in the bay drive and boot from it , since it doesn't have moving parts , it's safer , it might lower everything to Sata 2 but works like a charm ! Like this so i get you've seen this and tell me if i'm right or wrong , if i'm right i hope you apply this in your future Videos ! Have a good day .

Nice video as always, wanted to ask is it worth to upgrade a 10 year old toshiba satellite a 505 s6965(currently rocking a p7350 core 2 duo, 4gb ddr2 ram, and a 4500 series gpu.) I thought about upgrading the cpu to an intel core 2 duo extreme, adding a stick of ram so it has 8 gb, and probably an egpu, i already hae an ssd, samsung 860 evo that i need to install. Will it be enough to power games like fortnite, csgo, dota, LOL, and apex legends. Is it worth such an upgrade, if yes how much should the cpu cost?
@HellFire1074 жыл бұрын
I disassembled my Toshiba Satellite. Had an AMD e-300 clocked at 1.3Ghz, Radeon HD 6300m, 250 GB hard drive and 2GBs of RAM. I'll find something stupid to do with it eventually :) Thinking about mounting the display to my desk somehow, but I need a driver board for it which can be found relatively cheaply. As for the computer itself, it's trash until it gets an SSD, Windows 10 and 4-8 GBs of RAM. Very slow!

Excellent videos. but several points: 1- thanks for the decent music. Music in your videos has improved. 2- Even though the repair view is a delight, i think the $ and effort for some of them is not worth it. 3- Nice of you to paint but keep it simple for next ones. It looks odd. 4- For the reinforcement, i would have used plastic. Metal parts can come into contact with something and generate a short circuit. 5- What about a custom case? some videos around with old laptops inside wood cases.

PLEASE HELP! I have a toshiba satellite c850 laptop which had an intel celeron b830 cpu, I decided to upgrade because it was a 2 core CPU at 1.80 ghz with intel HD graphics, which I bought a processor from an online store, specifically an intel core i3 3120M of 4 cores and intel HD graphics 4000, the problem is that I think the laptop has a bios lock and every 30 minutes the computer is shut down by force. I tried another processor, exactly an Intel Core i3 2350M with 4 cores and Intel HD graphics 3000, and the same thing happens, and with the factory processor does not turn off or anything, it is not a problem of the ram, or hard drives , I've made a couple of upgrades to my laptop, like putting 8GB of RAM at 1800mhz DDR3, a 120GB SSD and with a sata 2 to sata 3 adapter, I removed the disk reader and adapted a 500gb HDD. Could you explain why exactly at 30 minutes it shuts down? It is not a problem of temperatures, because they are very stable and the dissipater has new thermal paste.

if you noticed, the cpu is soldered to the mainboard which makes it almost impossible to upgrade. There were some of the older laptops (Lenovo G505 and 505s for example) which had a socketed cpu. The issue would be getting an updated bios that would support a more powerful cpu, and of course the board would have to support it also. My 505 I can go from an AMD A4 1500 to an A4 1800 (if the bios will support it) although the socket is the same type.
