Restoring XBOX 360 E - Simple and Nice

The Xbox 360E is an easy console to take apart. I got one second hand a few years back and the fan stopped working. I opened it, cleaned it, replaced the thermal paste with MX4 and changed the fan. Works flawlessly.

I've never taken apart a console successfully besides a blue wii that I left alone after getting apart I have an extremely scratched 360E though that I got for $25 about 4 years ago with a bunch of games and the technician I've taken my xbox and Playstation to said he doesn't go older than xbox one so was wondering if I could deep clean this on my own? And thermal paste I don't know where to get that or what to even use

@@josephhall7317 Oh my gosh do it dude. Take it slowly, make sure you have the right tools and carefully watch tutorials. Check out websites with tear downs. I don't know why repair guys wouldn't do this, the Xbox 360E must be easier than the Xbox One. The original Xbox is very easy and the Xbox 360E is fairly easy. But take your time, make sure you feel around when trying to open it, don't force it. If it feels like it's not going to open, stop, re-check what you've done and re-check the tutorials. Japanese consoles are harder. They're usually far more complex to open and mess around with and have so many screws. Trying to open and deal with a PS2 Slim or a GameCube is far more work than an Original Xbox or Xbox 360E. The original Xbox 360 is harder though.

For the rails of the DVD, use alittle lithium grease, it will help the Lazer move around. The rubber thing in the back of the disk drive has always cracked and become old, so I used friction tape for it. If yall ever had some old thermal paste that just won't come off with alcohol, use alittle wd40 on it. It will lift that thermal paste right off, then rub it down with some alcohol to remove the rest of the paste and wd40:)

Xbox360 is still a good console, I have 3, two fat and one Slim and that's how the thermal paste should be put, it's good to give it maintenance 👍🏻

I got one a month ago, and it is very loud. I'm assuming there's a lot of dust, and it might need some new thermal paste. I'm still a bit intimidated by opening it, but it doesn't seem to be that hard. That vynil you put, made it look very good!

After my PS3 took a yellow light of death, and was replaced with a system that got rid of backwards compatibility and got hacked in 2011, I bought one of these from a 10th anniversary of XBox promo. It was a decent bundle. And a great system for certain.

I own two of these 360 models. I purchased the first years ago but it eventually died, I’m assuming RROD. I got a replacement console and put the old one in storage in case I needed spare parts, and the second 360 is holding up great.

Usually when I take apart the CD-ROM, something very bad happens. The ribbon cables are prone to breaking like an iPhone is to cracking (or water damage). If you take it lose you most likely break the CD-ROM. I’ve done that before when trying to oil some gears that were having a hard time opening the tray (after replacing the belts) and that CD-ROM never worked again. It’s the one thing I stay away from because of the complex mechanisms and compact design which makes repairs much harder.

Either the GPU or the Triple Core PowerPC is prone to running hot so if something happens you would have the RROD (Red Ring Of Death) don't let it happen, I just wonder why they didn't go with Phase Change Cooling to prevent the RROD.

Its normal. Cap has few milimeters of legs under it (its not soldered against the PCB) so it can be moved fairly easily. But its definitely connected and good

All you need to do is use clear coat glossy spray paint. It will cover all scratches and stuff. Glossy plastic looks like brand new
