Thank you for this video. I have only two basses, a Hondo 8300 Fame Series and another 70's-ish Japanese made bass that has a shorter neck. Ah, different sizes, surprise. So, the Hondo can be tuned some half tones lower, or string tension will be higher. I suddenly realised there is a lot that I still do not know. I removed the Hondo frets, which turned out in damaging the fingerboard. I filled the gaps and painted (two colours, very 70's) the ebony-like fingerboard. On top of the paint I tried a superglue coating, and to my surprise, the result is a bright sounding fretless bass. Playing "standard" Ernie Ball strings and the tough superglue coating works fine for me. Although I murdered a fretboard. Maybe one day, I will remove it, and flip it around, playing the beautiful fretless backside. Thanks for the inspiration!

Beautiful basses and excellent workmanship. I love your highly organised proceedure and also the fact that you hand build everything. In this world where so many builders are using CNC, its great to see someone who can do it all without. I take my hat off to you Sir!!!!!!!

Ha, and that difficult conversion to fretless has a side effect. For my other bass, I carefully sanded the frets down. No damaged wood, and for a newbie, those bright lines on the fingerboard are a good thing. How long would the average contra-bass player need to practise, until muscle memorie puts fingertips on exactly the right spots? Last week I drilled and chisseled and sanded three slots for my pickup, all through the new cheap (home made) pine body. Oh oh oh, it took time and patience. Now I can push the pickup out, and put it in either neck, middle or bridge position. Those two windows are funny. Should add window panes to the ones not used, like a scale model house. The body is large and sturdy, no fear my bass will break. Most exciting moment was assembling the bass, putting strings on and listen. Would it remind me of the original pretty thin piece of plywood? It is good enough for me. And now I can start trying different pickups in my bass. The body is ready for this experiment. I guess I will start buying magnets and do the wiring myself. Cheapest, and you get the size you need. Again, thanks for this video.

I have greatly appreciated your build series. I have some acoustic instrument build experience, and I would like to build myself a bass. Are your wiring schematics available? That would be a help.
