I feel like the show also plays off of the stereotype that American fashion is loud and can be somewhat discombobulated.. to match the perceived lack of cultural curiosity or experience. This also matches *spoiler* when Madeline visits and has an even larger bombastic personality that seems super imposing, but at the same time gives off the no BS American attitude and she’s also given super bold fashion choices as well. For what I think they’re trying to do in the show, I think it really works! I was also super hot/cold on a lot of the outfit choices this season too! Loved this video!

Emily In Paris is so whimsical to look at, but they’re lucky Lily Collins is so stunning it tricks people into thinking those looks are much better than they actually are. Instead of Teen Vogue, I wish they’d pull from Lucky Magazine instead. They always did polished preppy style so well and mixed fun colors and accessories in a great way. I think that speaks more to Emily’s character than the badly coordinated avant garde pieces. Her best look was definitely the red H&M x Giambattista Valli dress!

I originally tried to watch the show just for a little fashion escape but it really is soooooooooooo dated and feels way too overstyled. Def reminds me of like my 2011 peplum/bright blazer/statement jewelry days of shopping at Forever 21 😂. Also all the coordination (like matching neon yellow beret to neon yellow gloves to neon yellow jacket) is just toooo much. I get what they’re doing, trying to sell us the fantasy, but I feel like they need a fashion editor on staff to dial the looks back a bit and find ways to make the outfits look more effortless.

Denim was actually created in France! Denim is a portmanteau for de Nimes (the city where it was created). I think Emily wearing denim would be a GREAT styling choice as it is seen as very American despite having French roots.

I agree that Emily should wear more denim. If there is anything the French have adopted well, it´s denim. It´s basically the perfect clothing item both adored by the Americans and the French (well basically by everyone but French style icons like Jeanne Damas have a signature denim style)

Loved this video. While the style on Emily in Paris is super fun escapism, it totally misses the mark. All of the outfits feel like 2008 Gossip Girl to me, like Emily is Blair Waldorf's younger cousin or something. They had such a huge opportunity to make a massive fashion statement and influence actual trends but I don't see that happening. Even the way they style Camille is lackluster. I wanted to be MOVED.

Loved your restyling Amy! Totally felt like the ever-present highlighter yellow, the high low dress, even the 2 D&G looks were all what I channeled in 2013, like to a T. Like you said, I don’t care about realism with the affordability of Emily’s wardrobe either, but it feels like a waste that we can see designers and high budget pieces but with such uninteresting/bad styling! About the point if she could ou couldn't afford this kind of items and for me it's a big yes. Why? Cause she must have her US salary (which will be bigger than a French one) + a moving abroad rise + her apartment in Paris paid by her company. At least if the US system is similar at the French one. And from the Parisian office, she might even have some restaurant vouchers. Most events where she goes are paid by the agency clients... Sooooo, yeah plenty of money to spend in fashion! 😂 And luxury fashion is less expensive in France cause items are producted here. 🤷🏼‍♀️
