Thank you so much for this series on making Hawley retainers! I am learning to make them at the ortho office where I now work. This is a godsend for me! I have done other types of appliances but not Hawleys. Your step by step instructions helped me see some things I need to change and also what I am doing correctly! I know it will make a difference in my work.

I love her delicate hands. These with which you do with mastery difficult folds, sculptures, drawings and submissions. Congratulations on your work. I admire both you and your wonderful tools so hard to find in Brazil. hug, MarIland

When using a handpiece or any type of grinding burr or wheel, keep your thumbs together. Grinding acrylic generates heat keeping your thumbs together helps stop warping.

You’ve done a great job on the upper part of the pallet where the tongue lies so they should not be a problem for his or her speech cause I had them file mine down so that way it does not affect my speech sometimes the pallets are left too thick it looks like you did a good job on the one you made keep up the good work thank you Robert

i like that you make the front wire "high up", so people don't see it instantly :) could you also show a video where you have the palate completely covered?

Hey thanks for this amazing video. I have a question that I have made a similar kind of retainer for me in Pakistan from a dental clinic and now I'm in Germany and it's hurting my gum at a very small spot. How can I trim that part without having these machines that you showed just with a normal anything which is available at home?
@RetainerDesigner11 жыл бұрын
I dont get many requests from my Drs for full palate coverage, but if i get one I will definitely show you.

Can acrylic be added in different stages, days apart? Or does it all need to be in one go?
@CadeTippett2 жыл бұрын
It would be better to apply the acrylic all in one go so that it is more uniform. But you can add new acrylic to old acrylic. Just be aware that the old acrylic will be " More Cured" than the new acrylic.SO shrinkage rates will be difference and the old acrylic may be harder. It can take up to 48 hours fo the the acrylic to cure completely.

The only thing I hate about wearing my new retainers is how I say certain words because I feel the thickness on the top palate I hate that. Can I ask to have it fixed or is that how its sopose to be? And its not longer like the one hes making in this video
@RetainerDesigner10 жыл бұрын
HoneyLust1 You could ask your doctor them to thin it out. and shorten them some, that might help. You also have to practice speaking with your retainers as much as you can. It does take some time.

@RetainerDesigner Жыл бұрын
This is just a basic Hawley retainer used to hold the teeth straight after getting braces off, so no pontics in this one

so the way you have it is loose, does the orthodontist tighten it up when it arrives at the office? i'm pretty sure mine did that.
@RetainerDesigner7 жыл бұрын
Retainers, have a tendency to loosen up as you wear them, the great thing about them is they can be tightened and adjusted by the doctor.

Helloo. So im getting braces soon, and im sure i would need one of these. I have met many people not beign able to speak correctly and beign uncomfortable with them. If i get them thinner ( Thats possible right? I meant it because of the comment below), will it affect my teeth? Hoping for an answer thank you
@myles34110 жыл бұрын
This is the dumbest thing i ever read.
@RetainerDesigner10 жыл бұрын
A thinner retainer will not affect your teeth as long as they are touching all of them still. But it will make it easier to break :)
