Nice to see Sam and some project videos again. I was beginning to think Sam was no longer working with you. You need to get back to more of the project videos. You've done some nice work around your house and the lake house but it gets old always seeing that stuff.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Interesting project. Reminds me of a video DP did, was visiting a contractor in the south east US and was doing soil work, preparing a swamp to be a housing development I think. They were mixing Portland cement into the existing soil if I’m remembering correctly. Definitely would not want one of the houses built there. But how would you know? Wishing you and your family the best.

The septic cleanouts/riser pipes right in line with that septic line should've been a good clue for the guys. Hopefully they will remember that for future jobs. 🤞

They are surprised by the sewer pipe when the cleanout is sticking out of the ground right next to them?? Also in my opinion the wall should have been behind the pipe. If that pipe ever needs to be replaced that whole wall will need to get ripped down going in front of it.

Was installing a parking spot for a RV at someone's home ran into the same Jello waterbed situation. so they called out a engineer on how to deal with that and that rock that you show at the end of your video looks like granite rock. Will the same size of rock that engineer said we needed to throw that in the excavated area we were working and using a wacker we just kept whacking that material down until it became a hard surface where we got feedback from the wacker can feel compaction.

I have a question, I’ve watched a bunch of your videos on the standard block walls you build. You say no filter fabric behind the block but what keeps the silt from plugging the stone and French drain pipe behind the wall. I would think that eventually having the silt getting into the stone it would eventually make its way into the drain pipe and have a plugged up drain pipe.

i have a dry stack slate wall, which is essentially a retaining wall itself. the last time we fixed it we only used regular stone, and no soil compaction and no "geo-grid" so, my question is, what geo-grid do you use, and what brand/site/company would you recommend getting some from?

I got a question for Stan. Or maybe some of his crew far down, does the soil heat up in Minnesota? Where is the line where it's way?Colder versus like, does it heat up below four feet or does four feet down?Is that all the warm air gets

Stan seems like a large staircase to nowhere it sucks when you hit bad soils like that did a patio ended up with 2ft of compacted stone under patio to make it right

I think that gutter downspout was the culprit in creating the soft pudding soil that needed correction.

At what point do you just pour a concrete footing
@paulnelson7384
@paulnelson7384 Ай бұрын
You can pour a low yield 1500 psi pad but people tend to forget the modular retaining walls are designed to move yet overcome the loading on top of the wall. If the surcharge over comes the toe of the wall then wall failure happens, it's the rotation that you have to overcome. A good base, select fill and proper geogrid with proper drainage to keep water out of the that rotational area.

Almost never wherever there are freezing temperatures. Excavating and placing a footing below frost depth is very expensive. Soil correction is cheaper and better in most cases. Depending on wall height and how deep the bad soils go, micro piles or rammed aggregate piers are sometimes used (generally not in a residential situation unless they have a lot of money to spend).
