I've been a headset user (though not Retevis) for over 40 years and can assure you these are fully legal to use with a GMRS radio. ;)

Thanks for the product review. As a drag racing team owner, and driver, we use GMRS radios at the track to communicate between the drivers and their crew chiefs who are at the starting line. If you have ever watched a NHRA National Event, or even a NASCAR event, you will see crew members wearing headsets similar to the Retevis headset. As you can imagine, it gets just a bit noisy at a race track. So these would indeed come in handy under those conditions. I have one from another manufacturer but am intrigued with the Retevis headset and will likely buy one. I’ll let you know what I find using them on the track. I've been rocked (literally, with little rocks and rubber) by nitro-methane top fuelers from the staging lanes. That's some eye-crossing, knee-buckling noise. Plus, don't stand behind them.

From looking at the Amazon website, the unit is not an active noise cancelling unit that requires a Battery... but you have proven it's worth in a noisy environment.. thanks :)

I purchased one of these to use with the Rugged Radios version of the Baofeng UV5R, and also hoping that the 5 pin connection on the headset itself was compatible with Rugged Radio intercoms. While the Retevis headset works well with the handheld, the pin-outs at the headset are not compatible with Rugged intercoms. Bummer, as I was hoping to use the Retevis headset with the mic boom to the left for my wife, to see if it picks up less high speed wind noise than the right-side Rugged headset mic (which cannot be converted to lefthand).

I have noticed that these headsets do not require power, which makes me think they are noise ISOLATING and not noise cancelling. That doesn't take away from how well they work, but it does make me wonder if headsets with active noise cancelling electronics would be even better. Would you mind cutting apart your free headset to determine if it is isolating vs cancelling? Enquiring minds want to know!!!!!

Just looked at the plug of those headphones that goes into the radio and it looks like a stereo type plug, 3 section, and the headset for my radio is mono, 2 section plug. Does the different plug design matter with these radios? I have had issues with action cameras where they aren't compatible. Thanks for sharing.

Not designed or approved for that, but it does block out a LOT of noise.

It depends on the radio. If the radio has a K-1 connector, like the MXT575 you can plug it right in. Otherwise you would either need a mini-XLR cable with the correct plug/jack type or a K-1 adaptor for your radio.
