Great video Fred and nice "drop" test.This looks good for a mate who goes fishing and does tend to drop his handhelds a fair bit.

These radios in the antannae tubing only have a 2 inch helical so loads of wasted tubing I shortened my tubing down to the helical size and popped a stopper on it .

I have the RT668's and the RT24's and both have a scramble function that can be switched on for any of the 16 channels. I'm curious as to whether the RT648 radios have this feature or not? Great video, cheers 👍

The manual did mention a scramble function but as i did not have the correct software cable i was unable to test.

They have scramble in the software, there are 8 to choose from and 3 frequency hopping choices. They don’t particularly give any privacy like encrypted digital radios, they just means casual users can’t listen in if activated.

Hi buddy, I would like to say that your review of this radio was absolutely fantastic. Keep having those cup of teas, they will do you good fair play . I have a quick question. However, I have the RT648 radio myself,. , And when reading the product details it was stated that they have an emergency alarm built into them . Do you have any idea on how to activate the emergency alarm? Because I don't. I will be grateful mate, if you could please get back to me.

I dont think mine had that function turned on. If you got to the Retevis website and on this radios page there should be free program software. You will need the correct USB program cable but then you should be able to access all the radios full functions.

Cheers buddy, I appreciate your advice . I will try to get onto the website, if I can and have a look.

What is the RF power output ? It would be nice if it were a little more than 500 mW. ! and had a detachable antenna !. CT4089.
@CB-RADIO-UK2 жыл бұрын
Out of the box its 0.5w but the radio will output 2w in USA mode. It might be able to force it to the higher setting in Chirp.
@buttyug2 жыл бұрын
You can select 2W for any channels in the software. That would be illegal without an ofcom Business licence though 👀

I really liked your review, it was very detailed. I also enjoyed the testing. However, I also have this radio myself, and understand how big and tough this beast is. Just remember, whenever you launch another radio just avoid the washing line. But just a question, is this bigger than the treble eights that you are on about when you went for your covid jabb
@CB-RADIO-UK2 жыл бұрын
Hi. LOL i dont think i will launch another radio for a while. Yes this RT648 is about 1/3rd bigger than the baofeng bf-888s. At the start of the video that radio i bring alongside is a BF-888

Thanks. I was tempted to drop on the concrete but it goes beyond the spec of the radio so prob a bit unfair.

Most handhelds would have survived that drop test on to the grass from 14 feet. Concrete slab's would have been better!
