Retford in EM Gauge September 2017 (Episode 2)

The far far overdue second episode of my EM Gauge Scale Model of Retford as it was in 1957. I would like to apologise for the significant delay on my part in uploading more footage, this being down to a range of reasons.
Recently, work has started on the scenic areas of the Motive Power Depot and as such the baseboard which it sits on has been removed to allow easier access. This gave a golden opportunity for a wide range of shots which would otherwise be inaccessible. We also see a train coming under the bridge from Sheffield into platform one, aswell as the new Travelling Post Office set.

This is amazing. I never knew Retford station was like this, having grew up there from the 80s. I managed to to get some trips to Sheffield via Whisker Hill from platform 2 but it is rare these days. Super layout!

I was living in Watford in 1957 but would have loved to see the Yorkshire Pullman going round Whisker Hill Curve. I still hear the occasional train squealing on the check rails.

My earliest railway memories are of Retford in the late 60's / early 70's, so I remember some of what is in this layout: Retford South and North signal boxes, platforms 2 and 3 on the island, with platform 2 being the Down Main. The diamond crossing and Platform 1 East were long gone by then though. I have a very feint memory, perhaps my earliest memory of all, of Retford GNR Goods station near Babworth Road with a BR Standard Class 4 or 5 steaming by. This a superb layout - is it ever on public display? I'd be quite interested in seeing it up close.

Unfortunately it is not usually on public display, however I plan to compile more footage over the coming months, though this is obviously not seeing it up close, I hope you enjoy more footage of the layout. Didn't realize that Retford had a crossing. My memories are of a high and low level. Was this a track modification in the 70's??

what is em gauge in relationship to either h.o. , or n. thanks in advance . nicely done .

EM Gauge is similar to HO, however whereas the track gauge for HO is 16.5mm, EM is 18.2mm.

I guess all track hand made? Just wish I was that clever. I did used to drive real trains through the junction back in the early seventies out of Kings Cross.

Thank you very much! Every part of the layout is used at sometime or another however due to the complexity of it, and the fact that it requires multiple people to operate every section in quick succession (most of the time it's just me operating and doing the camera work at the same time), I often stick to one section when making a video like this.
