Welcome to a video of my model railway. It is based on summer 1957 in Retford from the flat crossing to Babworth Bridge and is a scale model. You will see the odd loco or train that's slightly out of the time but it's my train set and I can do what I want.

Wow! There is something about this layout that just seems so real. The depth of the scenes, the weathering on the rolling stock, the scenery, even the sound. It all creates quite an atmosphere. Good show.

Don't think I've ever seen a better model, you have captured the space and feel of a main line railway, or to be more accurate two main line railways, brilliantly well. I particularly appreciate the scale speeds and smooth running. Kudos, comrade!

After school in 1950's I'd cycle the 5 miles to the line side by Hadley Wood North Tunnel, lay in the long grass and watch WD's, 9F's on freights, with the Pacifics, V2's and B1's hurtling by on passenger duties. Your layout took me back to those days - many thanks. I'm building my own model now, and hope it will approach the standard of yours. Well done!

Superb stuff! The doubleheaded K3s from 7.38 form probably the finest footage of a model railway I've ever seen. EVERYTHING was just right. Perfect!

Thank you so much for letting us see what must be one of the greatest model railways around. It has the potential to be the all time greatest and Roy is to be congratulated on his efforts so far. Greatly enjoyed and hope to see more at some time. Martin.

What an undertaking. I have been looking forward to seeing footage of this epic for years.Very well worth the wait. Superb modelling, operating and fidelity to prototype. Saw Dunwich in the flesh as what I perceive now as a taster of things to come. Anticipation builds for further video. Thanks, Chris.

This is a truly impressive achievement yet, especially considering this is not a club layout but being built by only a small number of people. What impresses me the most is the trackwork, the signals and the very spacious, uncluttered apearance. The last is achievable because of the giant dimensions (I saw a trackplan in either Hornby magazine or BRM), and the funny thing is, unless you know the trackplan, you have no idea from which hole in the backscene the next train appears in the video. One tip for the filming, use manual focus, as the camera often goes out of focus when the train comes in the picture or is focused at the wrong point at all, what I do is move the camera a bit around in autofocus untill it focuses on the right point and then push the auto/manual button, then it stays focused at that point. Some very nice kitbuilt locomotives as well, like that B19 at the end.

So exciting to see expresses run through at scale speed! particularly over that beautifully crafted point and crossing work (as well as a variety of other speeds, of course.) An aspect so often (I humbly think) missing at shows where everything seems to run at such a uniformly slow speed, even on larger layouts - maybe to save wear or minimize risk of derailments, perhaps.

Great work so far. The track layout is very interresting and also very realistic. But what scale is "EM gauge"? never heard of that....
@melvynwoodman5787
@melvynwoodman5787 Жыл бұрын
Scale is 4mm to the foot (same as oo) gauge is 18.2mm instead of 16.5mm to provide a more accurate representation of 4feet8.5inches. wheel standards and flangeways remain as oo standards which are still coarser than scale.

I really wish true oo gauge took over the rest of the world. This would have made old timey American engines much more practical to make.

I'm a little curious; what was the first coach behind the tender of that LNER-liveried "Sir Sam Fay" class?
@DJRailways
@DJRailways 4 жыл бұрын
That would be a GCR Barnum!
@TallboyDave
@TallboyDave 4 жыл бұрын
@@DJRailways Interesting; would pre-grouping coaches like those roamed all that much in LNER or BR days, or would they have primarily remained on their former routes?
@DJRailways
@DJRailways 4 жыл бұрын
@@TallboyDave The Great Central Railway did cross the East Coast mainline at Retford over the flat crossing, which is now the low level part of the station, so Barnums were a common sight.
