Almost like how back when I was at a conference the dude was telling us how his friend got out of juvie or prison and he got clean from drugs and we clapped for him but the dude said “don’t clap. He died a week later” like damn ok. He could’ve been nicer since we didn’t know but oh well.

To think others would go so far in their choice of words but fail to understand once they say it, it's very hard to apologize for. Hearts go out to her for standing up and speaking how she truly feels about this. This should make others learn about how to think before they speak

She was just running the concept for tests, but it could be further developed and applied to social media platforms themselves. That way it is not up to the individual to install, but rather for the platforms to incorporate it by default. Seeing as your comment is 5 years old however, I'm surprised no single large platform has ever done anything with all of this.

@antra21
@antra21 9 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Saubert How do you teach mental fortitude??
@noneyabusinessbro
@noneyabusinessbro 9 жыл бұрын
AnTra23 Simple, reinforce them everyday. Let them know how special they are, and to ignore people who are mean to them. And to teach them if they dont like to be put down, change whatever they can to prevent it. IE if they are overweight and dont want to be called fat etc, show them and work with them to lose weight. Parenting is a LIFELONG job, you dont stop when they hit 10 years old, or teenage years, young adult years or ever adult years. Many parents stop supporting their kids emotionally when they are teenagers, assuming they are good to go. Both parents work jobs, they become disassociated with their kids. This leads kids to feel isolated, and alone, which makes them vulnerable to bullying. Our society now is based on everyone wins mentality, which creates a shit ton of weak willed individuals. Kids need to LEARN how to lose, how to ignore comments that put them down. To use those comments and losses to fuel their desire to get better. I play with my children, and let my kids win most of the time, but often enough I beat them and then counsel them that its not the end of the world and to work harder to get better. Is this a fool proof method? No way, but its a far better method than trying to censor bullying and hurtful things children and adults will say. Because it doesnt work, and it leaves people ill equipped to handle those situations. We are an aggressive, territorial, violent species, dont forget that and train your children to adapt to that behavior.

Wow, that was an amazing speech. She is flawlessly doing her work at the age of 14th. I was so glad to see the remarkable rethink alert message outcomes. They are really making difference. I can say that with surety because once i tried to wrote something ugly on one of the social media and when i click the hit button, they show me message-"Are you sure to post this comment? it may be inappropriate." Something like that. At that time i thought for a second and decided not to post. This is for everybody that rethink before you say or write on someone. We all need to stop the all kinds of bullying. Yes, It's true. But that actually happens when you don't stop to think you might be actually hurting another person. You think you have freedom of speech? You people use all the time the "freedom of speech" card and I think you don't even know what the hell it means. Your freedom ends when the freedom of other people begin. Threre's absolutely no reason for you to think you are entitled to bully others. I'ts cowardly and disgusting because people do it all the time and then they wonder "woah, why did they commit suicide? what a shame!". Hypocrites... People like you never stop to think about the consequences of your actions. I highly recommend you listen to this video carefully and grow up.

I liked what she said about how our only solution is Stop, Block, Tell. I work as a Prevention Educator doing programming in K-12 and Colleges on Bullying- This video along with Shane Koyzcon's spoken word speech are very moving- the heart of the matter, is teens are growing up in the Comparison and Competition fueled culture- from Xbox Live points on Call of Duty- to how many 1.2K Likes/Followers you have on Instagram, to the modeling of our parents and politicians with Democrat/Republican disagreements. We are far too blinded by America's own sensational media. I think if we had a wider world perspective, and actually seen more images and stories of how Third world countries are suffering, in poverty, oppressed, etc. We would allllll live differently and think differently when it comes to how we treat each other. Doing these presentations- its kind of sad sometimes when I see just how students as young as 4th, 5th and 6th grade have a knowledge or direct experience with suicide ideation. That was sooo far removed from a few generations ago.. Kids might have thought about it, but rarely ever did they go through with it.... now, its almost romanticized and glamorized as a way of feeling better about ourselves and the situation. Its not right- and I dont want any youth to give up on life or their future. Keep speaking LIFE people. Keep SPEAKING LIFE!

Cyberbullying is a serious problem of modern society. In most cases, teenagers are susceptible to cyberbullying. They should have thought about the damage before writing awful comments. You correctly noted that teenagers are like cars at great speed, they do not think about the consequences. But it seems to me that it is adults who are to blame for the fact that children have become so cruel and ruthless. Now most of the children have virtually no childhood, because they have started buying the latest gadgets early and children are sitting on social networks from an early age.

This problem has been going on for a long period. The most important thing is that we should think before we start typing something. We should not forget about other people's feelings. It's extremely disappointing that people have to be rude to others. Even if we shut off our computers and back away from the situation, the issue of cyber bullying still stands firm. I'm disappointed that other people have to say such rude things online. In my opinion, I have received many offensive messages through trolls online. That's one of the biggest problems with our society as this isn't being "realistic", but it's simply hurting someone else's feelings. I'm happy to see that lots of people feel the same way. It drives my inspiration to change the world. :)

@keegs.itsme2
@keegs.itsme2 7 жыл бұрын
Another thing I would say is that people overreacting is a completely normal thing. We are all humans. We can't simply "make the pain go away" and such. It's natural that we'd over react to things and it's also natural that your emotions can go out of control. However, you also have a point that it's a problem as without the pain, you'll never get stronger. Just like how muscles build up, pain is a factor of growth. Once you overcome that phase, you'll become more stronger and revitalized. Nice thinking. :)
@wormwood8352

SmileForMe Thank you for actually being a reasonable person. Anyway, I do agree to parts of that. I've personally grown pretty thick skin, so pretty much nothing that anybody can say will bother me much. When I said people overreacting was a problem, I was talking about how people will overreact so bad that they'll go so far as to try and censor other people's opinions that they don't like.

What she said was vague and preliminary, I don't think it will work. Young people want validation, that's why they are so affected by irrelevant messages from cyberbullies. They should be taught the purpose of life and that validation isn't one of its components.

A plugin wouldn't do jack. All a bully has to do is remove the plugin. The only effective way to do this would be to have rethink implemented into the actual chat services. This has already be done in some places such as RiverChat

if a bully wants to bully someone so much that they remove a plugin to bully that person, they should just have their privleges revoked.

This is a very serious problem today in our society. Kids get of the internet and say whatever they want, when they want too. I agree 100% that if these kids just think before they say something that could be very hurtful to others, it could save lives.

I live by the mantra: Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Helps when it comes to cyber bullies because those who post such hateful and hurtful things are immature. Best to just block them and surround yourself with positive loving people. Still, this program looks like it will have a positive affect. Kudos to Trisha for a job well done. :)

I experienced bullying during my adolescence. The scar is still there but the next time, if ever, I will tell someone I trust. Bullies have a sense of entitlement. They think they can say or do whatever they want and justify it by saying, “you’re too sensitive”. No! Bullies need to be held legally, socially, and morally responsible 💯

Great idea Trisha, hope ur application has one more feature, that it records the offensive posting and if repeated time and again then sends a message to the host sites, like KZbin to block them. This would definitely put an end to this nuisance...

MultiDarkZen Hating a religion is stupid. Don't be ignorant. You can't 'hate' several hundred thousand people that you don't know just because you dislike a few of them who identify in the same way. If you did say something like that repetitively, then of course you should be blocked. There's a fine line between 'free speech' and 'offensive, hurtful, uneducated speech', buddy. (I hope you noticed that the word 'speech' doesn't have an 'a' in it by the way - everyday's a school day :)))) )

Trisha, I love this idea. I work in a high school and the need to have students rethink could be life- changing. However, is there any way to have optional comments sent instead of only the OK or rethink option? I have found students often do not see or think of other options instead of posting their gut reaction. I don't know technology, but if optional sentences like " I need time to get back to you on this" or "I'm sorry, I don't feel the same" or "I'm not sure how to respond" or "that hurts my feelings" or "that doesn't sound right to me, can we talk?" Etc. could pop up along with an ok or rethink message, it might help them get the communication skills they might be struggling to use. If the user could easily click on a more positive or neutral sentence, it might change the discourse. Best of luck to you.

Love this work, and love this kid. I'd support it, but I'm not fully behind the idea, though. My biggest thing is that it filters written speech, and the very real truth is that most people are too afraid to say what they mean. The real question is can this tech really curb bullying by training people to think a second time? I definitely think it can, at least on a superficial level. Parents of bullies should raise their kids not to bully. Parents of the bullied should teach their kids resilience. But I do not want a world where the weak are just cast aside. They'd choose to be stronger if they could. Trust me.

If one feels as if no one understands, no one cares, everyone wants them dead or gone...a feeling of hopelessness can settle on their heart, and as it continues to build, can be too much to bear. It's not that they're too sensitive- it's just that they're human.

So how long will it be before the application becomes compulsory and the government uses it to control thought? If someone posts a religious post or a political post the government doesn't like will it be popping up messages telling them to rethink? And if someone goes ahead and posts what they have written will that be recorded and used against them? I think the application has the potential to be dangerously misused. Freedom of speech should be protected. Adolescence don't need an application to tell them to rethink. Their parents, schools and churches ought to be teaching them to rethink for themselves without any application. We don't need a nanny we need maturity.
