My why is I want to live to the fullest and not being retired is no way of living. I want to be financially independent living in either Spain or Portugal. I would definitely spend a lot of time both countries if I hit the lottery (or come in to money somehow)

Hi Alan and Leslie. Check, Check, and Check! I just found an apartment in Funchal and, although I will be paying a bit more than planned, I can find something cheaper or buy something when I get there. Yes, I agree that one should plan a wiggle room of 10-15% because of increasing/fluctuating prices and exchange rates. I'm in that weird position of having to pay rent when I am not there for the D7 and completing plans to retire in December. My budget for moving is $13,000 because I knew the rental issue was going to be a big one. I am looking at various medical options at this point but can wait to make my decision in the fall. Thanks for this video, very important. There are so many details that people don't realize must be done. Some actually think it's a snap to get the visa and move because some videos present it that way. You speak the truth!
@ItllBeFun2 жыл бұрын
Boa tarde DesertDweller, Nice to hear from you again. Sounds like the plans are all coming together nicely. Don't worry about having to pay the extra for the apartment, it is just part of the process. December will be here before you know it. Enjoy your journey Leslie and Alan

I didn't stay in a big city when I lived in Portugal. I don't like big cities but want to live close enough where every few weeks I can go get a hotel for a couple of days, shop and enjoy the restaurants and night life. I lived off IP3 mid way between Coimbra and Viseu. If you're into fitness there is a 50 km Ecopista that starts across the highway from Santa Comba Dao and goes all the way to Viseu. Well kept and no motorized vehicles only walking/running and bicycles. I lived in the city of Mortagua. €300 for a new 3-bdrm apt (probably €350 by now) and small town life.

I cannot find a clip on shipping a vehicle to Portugal. Does anyone have any insight? I am in Missouri USA. Best I can come up with googling is find and pick ACME to come pick up at my home, they drive it across country to port for container shipment and have to pick up on the other side within xyz amount of time I think it was 30 days or less. Has anyone here shipped a vehicle? How's gasoline prices there? Thank you.

Hi Alan! I'm 40 and have a plan to retire by 50 off of passive real estate income. We'll also be on Madeira for a month starting 7/19! I've been reading and watching about Portugal for several years, and want to scout it out. The US is becoming an increasingly hazardous place to raise a family, and I don't know if we want to stay much longer sadly.

"What is your why?"...I love that. You shared yours. Thank you. We'll share ours. I'm 53, my wife is 52. We moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia Beach to be in a place we fell in love with. It has given us the motivation now to move on in retirement in several years to a place where we can stretch our retirement money, live a healthier life in a coastal area with good climate, be free of skyrocketing health care and cost of living, and get away from the political divide and predatory consumerism that is becoming too common in the US. In short, a simpler, easier pace. Portugal is, so far, that place. I just hope its still an option in 8 to 10 years.

I never miss a video! And you already have nearly 4,000 subscribers! Congrats! Your quality content keeps us coming back. Soon, the big bucks will be rolling in, so keep it up! Now a question, if you please... As beautiful as Madeira is, has "Island Fever" set in yet? And if/when it does, where do you think you'll venture off to? And the most pertinent reason for my question is this... I understand that the government subsidizes the airfare for Madeira residents to return to the mainland. Is that true? I know that would be a real incentive for me. Thanks Alan, great job as always.
@ItllBeFun2 жыл бұрын
Ola AdminDesk, Thanks for your support. We look forward to your comments. No island fever yet!!!! But we have been talking about where too next. When we came on our journey we had planned travel for once a quarter. So far we went to Lisbon and on the Big Walk. We have Porto Santo scheduled for fall. And need to pick a December trip to the mainland. Any suggestions? As for the airfare reimbursements, we have to learn more about that program and how we qualify. That would be a good video subject. Challenge taken! Have a wonderful day Leslie and Alan

We just starting watching your videos this weekend, and we are really enjoying them. After years of talking about a trip to Portugal, we are going with two other friends (our ages 65-78) this October spending just over two weeks--Lisbon/Porto/Douro Valley. Then we fly to Barcelona for a trans Atlantic cruise (on Virgin) back to Miami. One port of call is Funchal, and we've already booked to go to the Monte Palace Gardens (via the gondola). So, on Oct 21, we will be on your wonderful island, and are grateful for you making it all the richer experience even before we set foot on the island. Peace to you!

I love your videos. ..so practical and to the point...I noticed you have a lovely young son...and hence the question ...we are planning an exit strategy in 2.5 years from Toronto Canada ....our son is 22 years old today so how would this effect our residency permit as a file or does our son have to apply separately? ....we will most likely engage a lawyer but wanted some info to do our thinking
@ItllBeFun2 жыл бұрын
Boa tarde Auriel, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. We are so happy you are making your exit plans! How fun! From our experience your son would need to be in college here in Portugal and could then apply for reunification. Or could show his own income and apply for a D7. Or one of the work visas if he is hired by a Português company that would support his VISA. Yes. We recommend you hire an attorney or speak with one of the relocation companies that have on staff attorneys. Our is listed in the description of our videos. Hope this helps. Enjoy your journey Leslie and Alan
