Olá Austin, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. We developed this style of video as a result of our equipment. When we first started making the videos, we had no external microphone for the camera, and the one for the camera sounded bad. So now I record the audio tracks separately and layer them over the videos. And the result seems suited to what we offer, and works well. Our son Wolf takes the videos, Leslie writes the scripts, and I record the audio tracks. It's a team effort. As to our previous experience, Leslie has a Horticulture degree, and I just retired as a mechanic. We just figure this stuff out as we go along. 😃 Keep watching. More to come. I am so loving the scenery and helpful information. I am 56 and eligible for state retirement January 2023. My benefit will be stretched to the max in US (even Louisiana), but once in Portugal it sounds like it would be enough. I appreciate knowing you have to show 3 months of income, meaning it would need to be after retirement. I wonder what company you used for assistance and how expensive it was to use that service?

Hi, as you know, I am moving to Funchal in January, 2023. I am working with a service to get my application together to be submitted in September for the D7 Visa. I think it’s a great idea to reserve the apartment on the scouting trip. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to do this and my trip occurred last year. I did meet with a realtor in person there. I thought he would take me more seriously and he has agreed to find my apartment in August. I was told only one tax return from last year is needed. Things change rapidly. Hello Alan, Between all of the official copies, FedEx charges and the government fee, I'm wondering if you can give an estimate to all of the costs involved? My guess is it's probably close to $1,000 USD? That's in addition to the bank deposits. BTW, must the bank deposit remain in the account or can it be drawn down? A similar scheme in the Netherlands requires the funds to remain in the account for the duration and not be touched, so just asking. Thanks.

Also, whe you said that the birth certificate needed to be apostilled, you were referring to your son's correct? Because looking at the requirements, there is no mention that the applicant needs to provide a birth certificate. Thanks

A bureaucracy question: As I understand the process you need a NIF to open a bank account and you also need proof of a residence to open the account. Is my understanding correct? Does this mean you may have to sign a rental agreement during a scouting trip so you can get your NIF and open a bank account during a scouting trip? How many months before your move might you have to rent?

Ola John, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Good question.. Since I could be wrong here was our experience. We opened the NIF while in the US. We needed to have support in order to due so, which is why we used a relocation company. (Ours is listed in the description section.) On our final scouting we opened the bank account. (We already had the NIF.) The bank account opened with our US address and when we found our rental we changed it. We made a mistake and didn't get the rental on the scouting trip because we would have had to pay for 4 extra months. Not the best idea on our part. (You need it to apply for the VISA.) So we rented by seeing the apartment virtually from the US. Worked fine. Enjoy your journey Leslie and Alan

Here is what we think we know and we reserve the right for mistakes. If you live outside of the US for more than 330 days and pay taxes into the local system of your country of residence then you can apply for America's Foreign earned income exclusion to reduce your US tax. My only income is SS and I can easily verify that. However, that is my only income and I do not have savings. Am I completely eliminated? I read the Portugal gov website and it sounds as if it could be either income verification or savings but still not really clear. I'd hate to buy Ins, get a number, and a rental, and be on the hook for it all if not able to get residency.

Ola Abdu Harbi, Please keep in mind we are not authorities on the subject of taxes. Taxes are not connected to the Visa. But there is an NHR tax regime you can apply for. Boa tarde Joel, That is what we said!!!!!! When you apply for your VISA while in the USA you send it in the sealed envelope. When you are doing the reunification which is done while in Portugal they look at you like you are nuts and want it with an Apostille. This is what had to be done for Wolf.
