Retirement at 52 and Broke? Professional Gambler and Entrepreneur… Here is a guy that spent his life looking for shortcuts to living! Retirement happens when you have a little self discipline and at minimum you don’t need to work to exist…

I'm a software engineer and you are 100% correct that today's "AI" is not the same definition that artificial intelligence was 20-50 years ago. Today's AI doesn't "think" or come up with new ideas. 5-15 years the term for "AI" was "big data". There is so much content online that everything has been said, repeated 1000's of times. A Lady Gaga 5 minute video will have almost 1 million comments. There have been time lapsed videos of building being erected just using photos people randomly posted online. These are sizes hard for brains to understand. For a person to read every comment in one Lady Gaga video, spending just 20 seconds per comment, would take 2 years 9 months working full time, no bathroom breaks. Today's AI is kind of a brain trick that most people will remember from school called plagiarism. Just a re-mashing of existing words into a form others don't recognize as plagiarized. Stealing the work of others and presenting it as your own. In visual and music arts it was called "collage" but now in AI is called "original". This sets up a potentially interesting dynamic. AI today uses mostly content that was created by humans, but soon will be based on content created by AI. If, when, this happens it could curtail most human creativity. Humans will not be able to compete with the endless amount of AI generated "original" work. If a human tries to compete their work gets instantly buried in the avalanche. It could also cause a server issue. Humans have been building huge data centers to store all the crap humans have been creating. It took 15 years for a Lady Gaga video to get 1 million comments written by humans. It will take AI about 3.4 seconds to generate 1 million comments in a video I post badly singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". Covering the Earth with data centers will soon not be enough to store all this re-mashed content. It's the ultimate echo chamber. Repeating back to ourselves what we said yesterday. Humans who try to compete with original content will be crushed.

I think AI is displacing people in real time. That's my take on it once I found out what AI was doing. I instantly knew that the current business model, creation, is going away. Same thing happened to the music industry. Billions turned into millions overnight. No bands were getting signed and computers were taking over. Same thing will happen to the KZbin business model. AI content will be way more than human generated content. Why pay a human when AI can do it for near free.

It's a good short term fix but you need a decent 2000USD bankroll to start. I'd guess he would need a good 12000USD, to return back home, sign a lease, secure a job, buy a car, and start to gamble again with a few thousand. Business is probably too slow for that just yet. But I expect gambling videos to come back.

You HAVE to have money to be here, yes you need a whole lot less here but at least in the US there are some things available to help. Over here in the Philippines...there is nothing. Hopefully you have enough legitimate work history to qualify for some social security at 62. If you can hang on til then maybe you can make it. It is cheap here...but you HAVE to have some steady income.
@imveryhungry112

its harder to make it in the phillipines than america if your not on social security. In america there are jobs for you. In phillipines, if you dont have the residual income you have no source of income at all.

I'm 67, in Phoenix AZ USA. My total spending has averaged $592.04/mo for the past 21 months. Over the past 15 years my house has appreciated an average of just under $2000/mo. I haven't taken SS yet. My medical is covered 100% (Medicare with Medicaid, $0 cost, $0 copay, $0 deductible, $5k/year dental). My smartphone and data plan is free (LifeLine). My home internet is $20/mo and was free for a couple of years. 50% of my food is provided from food banks (I don't qualify to food stamps). There is so much food in the US stores would rather donate things not selling, discontinued or past sell by date than pay to have it landfilled. I can walk to a canal or lake here in Phoenix to catch carp, catfish and trout in winter. AZ grows trout for me to catch and eat for just a $37 license per year. Yummy. Here in Phoenix I need no heat in winter, no hot water heater in summer. Clothes dryer isn't needed. In summer I air con 1 room. Most of the year $22-29/mo electric, $50-75/mo June-Sept. Property tax is $166/mo. I self insure my house. Being in central Phoenix I can walk almost everywhere. I buy 10-20 gals of gasoline per year. And I love this life style. Recently gave up toilet paper and I've gone tabo with a twist. Nice having a clean bottom. I plan to move to SE Asia in the next couple years. The sale of my house will provide $2000/mo income @ 5% and a medical reserve to handle nearly any event. I'll take SS @ $4100/mo in today's dollars. So about a $6000/mo income which may sound like a lot, but I don't think so. IMO that will give me a good life in SE Asia but super great. Most of what I see about cost in SE Asia is delusional. Almost no Tubers actually compare prices to the US. When I see prices on signs in videos and convert to USD and lbs I see food prices are about the same. I can buy bananas here in Phoenix for about the same price as in most of PH and the bananas in Phoenix are higher quality. I main reason to move to SE Asia is to prepare for extreme old age. What's cheap in SE Asia is labor. Most expensive part of old age in the US is labor. Needing more and more help. In SE Asia a live-in housekeeper is $75-200/mo USD plus food. A live-in fully trained caregiver is $500-1000/mo. A beautiful long term care resort in a one bedroom apartment starts at $1000/mo and services can be added, like meals and 24/7 in home nurse up to $4000. Up to $6000/mo for a 2 bedroom villa. On site emergency care and transportation to a great hospital with a 24/7 attendant while in the hospital. I can move in while still healthy and scale services later. If I compare long term care costs in SE Asia to USA then the "hugely cheaper" tag is true. But for everyday normal living the "cheaper in SE Asia" tag is mostly due to dropping lifestyle and/or having made really poor choices in the US. Yes an apartment in NYC costs a lot more than a smaller apartment in a poor area of PH where electric, water and internet is off kind of a lot of the time. That's not apples to apples. I can buy a house in Cairo IL for under $10k. Much bigger house and huge lot compared to homes expats are building in PH for $40k plus tiny lot cost. In Cairo I can walk to world class catfishing which is safe to eat.

Yeah "retired" hasn't seemed to apply to most people for the past 60 years or so. Used to mean a gold watch at 65 and dead by 68. Now we're living so much longer and "retiring" so much earlier the concept of zero productivity is a little silly. I "retired" 22 years ago at 45. But I have earned money along the way. I got into fish ponds and invented a pond vacuum that I started to build and sell to other enthusiasts. I like inventing and creating businesses. I shut it down when it got to be a J.O.B. I like creating garden landscapes and remodeling my home. After that's all done I need a another dump of a home to fix up. Working on house #4 now. The profit from selling these is what's mainly funded my "retirement". After I move to SE Asia I may go back to creating software applications. Always loved writing code and inventing apps. That could bring in money that I won't really need, but I enjoy the business side too. And it's not like more money is a bad thing.

True if you think so. I live in Phoenix AZ, kind of warm in summer. For the first 15 years here AC was on 24/7 June-Sept. For years whole house, then just 1 well insulated room. Past few years I've been dialing back. This past summer I was really surprised how little I ran the AC. Took some doing like opening windows and doors in the rest of the house at night and closing up by 9am. Just wearing shorts a ceiling fan. Spending mornings in my garden and then a 2 hour walk in the afternoon so indoor time was reduced. Dry air here though. I don't really like AC that much. Keeps surprising me how our bodies can adapt. But yeah, I get 99.9% of people think they can't survive without AV/heating. Most people leave AC running while at work for their dog. Strange that for 250,000 years we could and only in the past 60 years we can't. I also plan to live at a high altitude like Baguio, Da Lat, etc... since I don't like AC at much. Highs everyday of 75F sounds pretty good to me.
