An elderly couple in northern China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region has spent nearly 20 years transforming part of their desert home into an oasis. Seventy-year-old Tububatu and his wife live in a village on the edge of the Badain Jaran desert, China’s third-largest desert. The couple planted 266 hectares (657 acres) of desert with the highly drought-resistant sacsaoul trees (haloxylon plants) since his retirement in 2002.

Not necessarily but possibly. In order to change a desert into a forest you’re going to need a lot of early development vegetation. Like mosses, dense shrubbery, and weeds (as you said) to name a few. One can’t do it with just weeds and grasses, a whole variety of plants need to be present to get the job done.

@애리-e9r 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheKawaiiDango That can only be done with the help of those around you, it is hard to pull yourself from a society that is built off of working for those with more money than you. It is hard to be motivated enough to not give up, as well as finding someone or something to keep you motivated. It all depends on where and how you’re raised. I get what you mean when you say this but it is a lot harder than it seems with the amount of external factors that play into ones ability to be more “selfless” towards to earth and environment. It ALSO depends on what acts you consider selfless. While the couple in this video may be planting trees in the dessert, others could be using eco friendly products, work at recycle factories, or those who are less fortunate may still put in effort to recycle their trash and compost items. The scale of selflessness varies on what the individual can do. Not all selfless acts are grand, little acts are just as impactful.

@Ferdinand Relampagos ^^^This!! Even in urban settings we need to take care of our pollinators and lives of bugs, so much of the ecosystem are built on them being abundant as prey. This year I'm adding Milkweed flowers to my garden to care for monarch butterflies when they pass through. My family also has hummingbird feeders as well as marigolds and other flowers for our bumble bees and other pollinators. Main issue ecosystem wise in our area is no predators for the squirrels to keep populations in check 😤 You don't have to do grand things that you can't afford, just add support to ecosystem where you can even in little ways!

I remember watching a video about this backin the early 2018, they started doing this because their son who passed away was extremely passionate about doing this but could not fullfil his dream so the old couple started doing so instead to keep his memory alive.
