That is what I want to do. I have the trailer already buy no way to build it. I need materials and other thing to get it started. I only get a small amount every month so I'm not sure how I can do this. I've been living out of my jeep since around March. Its very cold out right now and keeping warm isn't easy. I do need to get a truck to pull this car hauler 20 foot trailer is a must but I cant afford it either. I did get section 8 house which I will get it on Tuesday. But I still need to find a place to live and I need to find a place to put my trailer also. An apartment won't let me drop it there. Even if they did. It would get stolen. So I'm left driving my trailer with the 2000 jeep I have. I was made to by this jeep. I wanted a truck. But my soon to be x decided he didn't want me to have a truck. I found a 2008 dodge 1500 series with a 5.7L with a hemi I asked my husband to go check it out for me and he had told me he would by my jeep back from me so I could get a truck. Well he took the truck and put only.his name on the truck. And never paid me.back for the jeep I still have and drive. It does run good but this isn't the kind of vehicle to pull around this big trailer. So I'm in a dilemma I need a truck not this jeep. And I need to get a topper on the truck so I have a place to sleep until I can get my tiny home built. 😊

Authoritarian Huge Gov just cannot tax these tiny homes at the level that they want to. Just like they don’t want people to quit drinking & smoking because of the high “Sin taxes” they want everyone living in 1200 sq ft. Or larger, taxable homes.

Building a tiny house; teaching carriage driving; raising goats, horses, chickens and turkeys; keeping bees; volunteering for two different organisations...If Carol is this busy in retirement, I can't imagine how much she accomplished when she was actually 'working'! What an inspiration and a reminder that we don't have to stop adventuring as we get older.

@@carolleeloodiva2071 Hi Carol, I live on the island, I'm female, and have chronic fatigue, seizures, serious lung disfunction, etc. I've been looking into tiny houses for about 15 years now and never thought I could do anything but pine for them due to the nature of my disabilities and the fact that I'm on assistance and they won't pay for me to live in a space like this - they'd rather see me homeless and off their dole. I have my application for MAID in hand and have been trying to get up the courage to file it since July when I came within 4 days of being homeless. You've given me my first spot of hope in so many years I had lost track. Thank you for the inspiration.

$20K CAD - so it's even more affordable than you think! We're not quite on the level of pesos, but 1 of our dollars is worth 74cents for you so you're looking at a little shy of $15K USD! I agree with you about wanting more of this content - the only way most things on this channel are affordable is if you have friends or family who can help or have land, or if you will only use it to earn money. That's not very aspirational for those of us who truly need this kind of an arrangement!

The reason why it's hard is that the various levels of government make it that way - they want people paying rich, greedy landlords and developers (their cronies and main campaign donors) for housing and paying municipal governments excessive development charges and taxes. There is no good reason why, in a country like Canada that is wealthy, technologically advanced, and has vast amounts of land, there should even be a housing crisis.

I can so relate to this woman's experience. I, too, built my own tiny home, myself, at age 60, while dealing with an autoimmune illness, and experienced the difficulties of finding places to park the home once completed. Canada was a no-go; finally found a place in the US countryside but ended up having to sell the home due to the "illegality" of living in a small space and the cost of moving it several times. These experiences are excellent reasons to do away with the current bureaucracies in both the US and Canada that do not serve the people.

Carol, love your tiny home! So creative, your sleeping area is amazing! To accomplish this build all by yourself is incredible! Taking care of livestock is extremely hard work! You are such an inspiration, so interesting & your tiny house is an amazing art form! Best of luck! ❤

I have an authentic Vardo as I grew up in the Cotswolds and they were everywhere in my childhood. The Dragon's Nest is a beautiful homage to Vardos but also has its own character. You have made something beautiful for yourself.

Inspirational. You are so talented. I commend you for wanting to tell people it is not easy to do this because so many do mislead others by making them think a farm is easy and you can sustain yourself by selling eggs but in reality, it's revenue from a you tube channel that sustains them. ....wishing you a long and happy life there!

I wish I had the energy to create a KZbin channel to sustain me! My home is everything I hoped it would be and daily I feel utter gratitude for the drive and motivation which has driven me all of my life. My life is beautiful, and it’s a LOT of work! There is very little in life worth having that you don’t have to work hard to have. ❤❤

Amazing job! You’re the first person that I’ve seen use the solar generator to power your home. I have an Ecoflow Delta Pro that I plan to use to run my tiny home. When I researched tiny homes, I looked into vardos, but eventually decided to go with sleeping lofts for my build. I, too, am going with renting space on a friend’s property. You’re an inspiration.

Wow! That is an amazing, unique woman!. I bought a fixer upper 23 years ago and I am still fixing her up. I love the off grid idea and I really want some solar with a battery bank for when the power goes out. I am in rural mid Michigan. I could have the animals as I have the property but too much work for me while I am still working. When I retire I might do that. Again what an amazing job that just proves women can do anything they set their mind to.

At my age and with my income, I am pretty sure I will never be able to own my own land! My ultimate dream is to secure a place, on a corner of someone else’s farm, where I could live out my life. I’ve moved The Dragons Nest three times in three years. This last move, I signed a land lease contract and it expires July 2027. I’d love a more secure space here on Vancouver Island. Owning it myself would be a dream come true, but I’m a realist and know that’s a dream that I don’t have enough years left to realize.

You've done amazing things! :) Unfortunately, you do live in one of the most expensive countries and land indeed even raw land is not cheap. May God open a door for you to secure a lovely place as long as you live - you are amazing!.@@carolleeloodiva2071

I'm so glad she touched on "where to park" to many videos just talk about the tiny home setup....ive been absorbing and digesting content like this for 10 years now and I'm at a point in my life where I have the resources to take the next leap....finding the property is the hardpart....you would think in my part of the country it would be easy to live this lifestyle...but unfortunately laws govern so much about zoning and livability...

Can you find a place with an old house trailer and turn that into an extra large vardo? You'd have all the hook-ups, water, sewer, etc.

@@GnomeInPlaid thank you for the comment...anything with a well is 30-50% more...in my area....established home-sites are unfortunately not in my reach unless i sold my existing home...im trying to buy "unimproved" but county zoned properly... I would like to slowly improve the land until time to sell the main house....
@GnomeInPlaid

Sorry to hear that. Where I live, the land is sold almost as unimproved, but that's changing here as well. Best of luck and I think you've got a good head on your shoulders. @@JesseePDX

The film interview took about eight hours. The incredibly brilliant editing distilled it down to 15 minutes and 23 seconds In the full interview, I mention that I had in total seven people who assisted me in making my dream a reality. In the video, three of them are mentioned - a 12 year old homeschooled girl held my front window in place while I screwed it into the window opening. A neighbour woman helped me lift the egress window into the opening in the bathroom wall and then she held it there while I screwed it into the frame, and my trucker friend, who found me the trailer my home is built on and brought it to the property. I was beginning my build on. Just before Covid a friend helped me to paint my interior trim. Another friend and her daughter helped take screws and nails out of the wood that became the shell of my tiny home, and helped me install the other two small windows in the front of my house, again just before Covid. The seventh individual who helped me was a young girl, who had construction experience and she came out to the building site. We put three roof beams in place together, and we took a bunch of pictures of each other holding the beam in place. I was able to use those pictures to figure out how to create a jig to hold the other 23 roof beams in place and was able to finish the roof alone. I had those very much appreciated bits of help.
