Growing up in a Thailand as a farmer means no chance at a higher education and no chance at a different future. This is my biggest pay it forward video so far, and it shows how just one scholarship can change an entire community.
Kids are destined to repeat the cycle of their parents and grandparents, living a life of small farming and making less than $200 a month. But some of these kids dream about a new future anyways, and in this video, because of YOU, we help one girl change her life.

Funny how the life works, the western world now want to be farmers and live in the communities, working outside, grow their own food, not go to school and spend as much time as possible with their loved ones while the cultures that have all this on the other hand want to study, work all day while not seeing their loved ones to buy the things they do not need. What I learned from my life studing, playing sports, working and travelling and living in different parts of the world is that the same life challenges we need to go through and we are unable to run away from them. At the end I guess there is no right or wrong and as soon as we are born we all have the story to live through so as long as the heart of the inidivudual feels good about their story, that is the way to go.

Chris I started watching you because you were a funny Stoner kinda acting dude that entertained me. Since then I see that you are a talented person who makes the things he does look easy. This is one of the best KZbin videos I have seen. You are inspiring. My wife and I am seriously considering relocating to Thailand next year, and I desire to do some human services stuff when I am not making my wages. Beth is a retired English and special ed teacher and she desires to be involved in benevolence too. Thanks for doing what you do brother. Hope to get to meet you one day. I hope you get to see this comment. Dennis.

I felt this down to my bones. I was born in a hill tribe in Thailand and at the age of 3, relocated to a refugee camp. We had no access to education. After a few years, we were blessed to be sponsored to the States. However, due to my parents having no education, we were on government assistance throughout my entire childhood. Regardless of the struggles, my parents instilled in us the power of education. My parents did not have financial means to send us to college. I worked through my high school years to save money and received scholarships and state grants to finished my bachelor degree. Fast forward, I completed 2 masters programs and have been working in the medical field for past 10 years. Looking back, as a "welfare" kid, I would never thought I'll be where I am today. Never underestimate the power of education, sponsorship, and resiliency!

Heya, Bill and Chris. Chris, nice man - nice indeed! Bill, I was touched deeply by the work Halie, Chris and their crew were doing along with other groups, getting food up to the forgotten children and families way up into the Phuket hills and jungles during the pandemic. I wanted to contribute, but like yourself, I just shot Chris some cash directly. Can’t go wrong with that old hippie canuck and his lovely wife! They don’t disappoint, brother. Hi Chris. Been following you for a while, and I think it’s time I showed you and your team some appreciation for the tremendous work you are doing. The videos you are producing are, from my perspective, some of the best videos about Thailand, especially because they show another side of this beautiful country, a side few people get to experience. The way you tell a story, introduce people and the environment around them, shows a huge respect for both Thailand and the Thai people, and I can’t even begin to imagine how much work you guys must put into the videos. You are also an inspiration to others, like me, who one day dream of being able to show the real Thailand to the world, the way you do it . Very well done. 🙏🙏

When I was in an elementary school in Thailand, I have had a few classmates, whose parents were rice farmers. These classmates were so intelligent, but because their parents didn't have extra money to send them to higher education, they had to leave school at the minimum of 7th grade and help with the farming. Had their parents had money, who knew what these highly intelligent children could have become. Your help to support them would change their lives & their communities, for sure. Thanks for all you do, Mr. Parker. Blessings. 🙏

Have sooo been looking forward to this. Here we go... This hit home in a way I doubt you could have envisaged. My Dad was born in 1943, Dublin, Ireland. From about the age of 4 or 5, we don't really know, he was raised in a Children's home, basically as an orphan. He had no family. The resources were scarce to say the least. The kids got 1 egg a year. No, that's not a joke, there is no punchline. The egg was at Easter. The rest of the time, the food would have been incredibly basic, so much so, that he recalls aged about 9 or 10, he was deemed in too poor health for those selected to be shipped off to Australia, which in hindsight, may have been a blessing in disguise. The children's home, only looked after the children till they were about 13 or 14, at which point they aged out of the system. He then lived in the YMCA and started working. At the age of 15 he went and joined the British Army, with no qualifications to his name. Quite where his work ethic came from is anyone's guess, but in a career that went on to span 39 years, he achieved every rank possible, finishing his service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He still has absolutely no academic qualifications to his name, but was in charge of multi £m projects. The Army taught him everything he needed. Not only did he successfully find his way out of extreme poverty and degradation, both his children went on to get University Degrees. Now married for some 54 years, he lives in a 5 bedroom house, which they've owned outright for more than 25 years. I remember him saying that if someone had told him when he was a kid, that he would have ended up living in the house that is now his home, he wouldn't have believed it. In his case, he created his own opportunity, probably made a little easier by not having family, but it was certainly his own doing that he attained the promotions he got, and how he took every task given to him and made sure he did it to the best of his abilities. I hope that those you featured in the video are able to find their own opportunities and achieve similar success in their lives. Onion chopping ninjas snuck up on me at the end of the video. Good luck to her and her future.

They may be considered poor as city-life standards but many studies prove the people in these farming communities live longer, are generally in better shape and health at old age, this due to their working environment (they remain active), nutrition (organic, 'eat what you grow'), lack of technology/industrial pollution, and community/social involvement.

When I heard him saying if he hadnt gone to study he'd have a wife, 4 kids and a home i was kind of shocked that this was seen as something bad. For many people in the developed world we have none of these things. I dont have their experience so have to admit I dont have he full picture. Also I dont think education is necessarily a guarantee of financial success, perhaps in the developing world it is, but in europe or america the market is saturated and the fact is there are only so many graduate role jobs a society can supply.

I just watched this video from my hotel room in Bangkok. I live in Los Angeles, California and am here visiting a friend who is a teacher in a very rural part of Ubon Ratchathani. I decided to bring bags of school supplies to her for her students. I'm not rich and I too grew up in several broken homes and foster cares, babysitters etc. My twin brother and I have never had a good relationship and the families that "raised" us are all dead and gone. Now, despite working at a fancy hotel in Beverly Hills pt and trying to make it as an actor, I know that there are people in the world that are struggling way worse than myself. I also know that my two little bags of pencils, crayons, coloring books, stickers etc aren't going to change their lives but I do know that the life we all live can be used to do soo much more for others that absolutely need the love and support We are capable of giving. This is soo inspiring and reminds me of the importance of the human soul and how impactful it can be. Thank you Chris for this video and sorry for rambling but I just had to share. ❤

THE best Thailand vlog I have ever had the pleasure of watching on KZbin! Chris buddy…. You are seriously a one in a million guy. I’ve always adored and admired your spirit and tenacity. But this really blew my mind. I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes after watching the video. You and Hailee are utterly beautiful souls. And to see the tears of joy in that girls eyes as she stood there and thanked you and everyone involved in making her dreams come true to become a nurse. And not only support her family… but to make sure she passes the love, help and support to future children just like her that hope and pray for a better outcome in life…. Tear jerking and truly emotional my man! Make sure you give you and Hailee a pat on the back for being such amazing creatures before you sleep tonight. If only half the people on this planet had the empathy and generosity of you guys… we’d all live in a super harmonious world. God bless you both. Liam ❤️🙏🏻😍👌

Chris, this hits particularly close to home for us. Through the good graces of God, we were able to lift our nieces out of a similar cycle by sponsoring their education. I'm happy and proud to say they are both college graduates and successful young women contributing to Thai society. Your gift to Sia will be a generational change for her family. Bless you for all that you and yours do. Cheers. 🐊🐊

Hello Chris, Great job on what you're doing! I also watched your older video about icare's work, where you accompanied the two teachers. The video deeply touched and inspired me. I've been working as a primary school teacher and school principal for the past few years. After two difficult years dealing with personal issues, I resigned from my job. I'm coming to Thailand in December for a year-long sabbatical to rediscover myself and find a new purpose in life. I'll definitely check out icare's work on-site and may discover a new mission there. Without your videos, I probably wouldn't have come up with this idea. Thank you.
