2 months immediately after retirement, I booked bus tours for seniors at least once a week, sometimes twice. Coupled with home chores, taking care of my pets, etc.

Working part time has been a common thing I am seeing with my "retired" friends. I plan on doing the same so I can maintain a routine and a sense of purpose. Work, as hard as it is at times, gives a sense of accomplishment that's important to my self--esteem. Not sure that I will want to fully retire until my health changes dramatically. Time will tell.

I retired last Feb 29 2024. Yes, Chosen retired at age 60 - after working since 1987 at the same place..... Luckily,I have so many hobbies (from DIY renovation tasks, to ATV/UTVing, to boating, to snow nobiling, to driving my wife around, to swimming, to helping my son with his house renovation projects, etc. etc.). During last few years (before self retiring), my "full time job" was getting into the way of my personal life.... Yes. I'm lucky to have other hobbies / interests in life..... For me, retirement is less stress and huge amounts of freedom!

Exactly. We're even told it's important to let kids fetch bored so they learn to occupy themselves. There's the mental health side to it too. Its not being bored per-se but spending time to decompress

I’m in my mid-40s and looking forward to very comfortable retirement in a year. Continuing to work a stressful career just to keep making money when it’s no longer necessary feels kind of silly, but I am concerned about the boredom. In my line of work, no one needs a part timer, it’s all or nothing. What a quandary.

Great video. I almost feel like I'm supposed to get bored. Nearly two years into retirement and I haven't had the opportunity to get there yet. I think being curious is a great cure for boredom in retirement. Nothing is out of the realm of possiblilty. You can do anything or be anyone. Retirees need to break out of their old mold, detach and move on, and not be embarrased or ashamed to redefine themselves. Sorry, this video made my mind start rolling! LOL.

Wow , i am in a real pickle . Retired very comfortable at at 59 . but live alone in far isolated northern Canada . Worked very hard through life but never married or had children fell in love 3 times but now solo . no family and few friends left with anything in common . Just don't want to be here anymore but scared to leave . All the trappings of cruises and laying on a beach don't interest me . I am looking for a purpose anywhere in the world that can use my skills and creativity . Any ideas welcomed ??

Church has been a very important part of my life (especially after retiring). Church provides great Christian fellowship, important sermons, and opportunities for ministry/service to others. I have some of my closest friends now in my church (Grace Baptist in Birmingham, MM). That is my #1 suggestion. Thanks for asking. Best regards, John

Feel the fear & do it anyway. Pick a location & go visit. Don’t have money for hotel rooms, look at vanlife/car camping and set yourself up & spend a week moseying around somewhere new, see if it has something to offer, if not next time try somewhere else that interests you. This is an adventure, not a destination. This will leave with the safety of home to go back to if it gets too scary but it will also build confidence to step away from the life that’s not what you want.
