In order to change your Life, You must feel free to exercise options My beloved Dad just passed. 93, peacefully. We did our best to keep him engaged. He was watching a video from Positano diaries, his last evening. Making wine at home. We agreed that, in Paradise, we would go to Italy. And get the wine press. Now I face freedom relocate. I stayed the course, and would have continued, to revolve around my Dad.Gladly. Option gone, Because he's safely asleep now. Is this moving far away attainable? Portugal? Your words are Golden. Is a relocation Affordable? Safe? Logical? Not mired w red tape? Being raised in Central America, I'm geared to foreign land. Thank you for your beautiful, thought provoking insight

Hi jenjem5810, We are also sorry for your loss and had a similar situation with the passing of Chip's father. Thank you for your kind words. To answer your question: Yes we believe that relocation is Affordable? depends on your financial situation, earning ability, and where you decide to go Safe? depends on your situation now, where you want to live, and your definition of "safe" Logical? Only you can decide what is "right" and logical for you Not mired with red tape? There is always going to be some amount of red tape, to say otherwise would be unrealistic, but it can go smoothly with good planning, realistic expectations, courtesy, and patience. All of the above takes first your desire and then your ability to be flexible, stay open, and focus on the prize. For us, it didn't seem too bad, and we wanted to do it right. We were prepared and more than willing and yes, it was well worth it! Portugal may be a nice fit for you, as it has been for many. Good Luck and we hope you find everything you are dreaming of!

You offer a great perspective. Especially after retirement so many people settle into a life they're comfortable with. A safe zone, so to speak. However, retirement is the beginning of many new chapters in my opinion.

I live in Florida, I'm 52 I'm disabled due to a rare brain malformation. Seven brain surgeries later and I was told by my doctor it be best for my health if I file for disability. Of course it has left my hope for retirement completely destroyed. I have been looking at retirement in Italy but I'm scared to death of the earthquake danger pretty much everywhere in Italy. Every time I find a home fir sale, I look online to see what earthquake zone the city is in. It seems that most of the homes they sell online to Expats are in high danger zones. Have you experienced any earthquakes? I'm single, I will have to move all alone. I don't want to experience a huge earthquake by myself. Can you please tell me about your experience with earthquakes? Where can one go where they don't have that many earthquakes? Thank you
