The Dark Side can also corrupt the user physically and mentally. Also with the corruption of the Dark Side it also has an effect and changes to the being's characteristics. When you fall to the dark side you're not yourself as you once were.

@@garrettriddle4139 It depends. In the Darth Bane trilogy, Bane was always the same being. He grew and matured but he was essentially the same person. Yes, he was ‘just’ a murderous miner before becoming a Darth but his personality was always intact.

We got dooku. He was not corrupted by the dark side. However, still does not change the fact he uses dark side abilities. Anakin is the only person in live action redeemed from it. (No Disney)

@@shxnplxyzllvs5408 I think Dooku WAS corrupted. It just took him some time for him to do so because of his majority of life as a jedi master. He saw his position as a sith only as a means to an end but as time went on he became more indifferent and darker.

His behavior in the film makes sense if he was in serious denial over betraying and murdering innocent people and being forced to face it by Padme and Obi Wan made him lash out defensively.

The one thing I feel gets left out of the conversation surrounding Anakin's turn is just how instrumental the Jedi Order itself was to Palpatine's manipulation. Palpatine consistently criticized the Jedi for failing to hold themselves to the same standard they purported to symbolize. If there were no truth in his critique, then Anakin would not have been swayed. The Jedi actively contributed to his turn by failing to engage with the substance of his complaints/concerns. They simply knew better than their headstrong padawan. There was no clear guidance and no safe harbor to address more pressing concerns. The council itself had become corrupt due to entitlements with the Republic and actively chose to use Anakin as a spy, specifically because he was a close friend to Palpatine. The order refused to save his mother and told him to ignore visions of her death, leading to the vision fulfilled. He had greatness thrust upon him and was simultaneously praised for his perceived role and held back out of fear of said power. The Jedi manipulated him in several ways within Episode 3 alone. When faced with the choice between a corrupt order that violates its own rules and actively manipulated him to betray those closest to him, while condemning the person he cares for most and a long time friend and confidant who, while using the dark side, encourages him, supports him, correctly called out the Jedi's plan and seeks to help him save his wife.....is that really a shocking choice? Further, let's not forget that Obi-Wan, while hesitant, was complicit in the actions of the council and was the one who actually gave Anakin that assignment. Upon deciding to join Sidious, is it strange to think that Anakin would reflect on all the choices that led him there and blame Kenobi? Kenobi, the master he felt had held him back, seldom did little more than criticize, asked him to spy on his friend, and consistently defended the actions of the council that didn't even want him trained in the first place and don't trust him? How could he not see Obi-Wan as having been just as culpable for the struggles of his life as the rest of the order? If anything, it's reasonable that he would blame Obi-Wan for allowing it all. This isn't necessarily the healthiest mindset, but I feel there's a lot more to Anakin's justification of cruelty than simply the corruption of the dark side. There had to be something real there for the corruption to grow and take hold. Great video though, super appreciate the extended context that the novelizations provide and your recent focus on that. :)

I think The Clone Wars series really points that out, not saying that Anakin is innocent "definitely not" but the Council was hard on him and disapproved on his solutions, yet when the Council needed a win from a desperate/disastrous situation they didn't hesitate to send Anakin and Obi-Wan automatically because they got things done, they didn't mind his solutions then

I always felt that Anakin never saw Obi-Wan as an equal; he was more a default, after Qui-Gon's death. Obi-Wan wasn't enthusiastic when Qui-Gon said he'll take on Anakin, that Obi-Wan was seeing something in Anakin, the 'chosen one' where Obi-Wan wanted to say "ohh comeon?! Really?" Anakin would've picked up on this. As a young Jedi, Obi-Wan was somewhat interested in Anakin even as Anakin was being bullied by his peers and was having trouble finding his emotional balance. The turn on Obi-Wan for me was a lot more fundamental.

If there's one thing that really needed to be fleshed out in the movie then it's this right here. Even just a few lines of dialog during their duel would have made it better. It's like Obi-wan and Yoda don't even care to figure out why Anakin turned to the dark side or even try to talk to him about it. It makes the whole "YOU WERE MY BROTHER ANAKIN" dialog at the end after mutilating him lack the actual emotional punch it was trying to go for. Like, damn for being "brothers" you both went after each other fairly easily.

Anakin’s turn to the dark side comes down to one thing…selfishness. He did care for and love his mother and Padme, but when it came down to it, he needed to save them for one reason: himself. I truly believe that if Qui-Gon Jinn had survived, Anakin would have never been deceived by Sidious and turned to the dark side. Qui-Gon would have realized Anakin’s faults and would have nurtured him in the correct way. Obi-Wan was not a bad Jedi, but perhaps not the best master for Anakin. I have to disagree with your statement regarding Palpatine’s deformation being caused by his deflection of force lightning. His face always had this appearance, however, it was not evident until after his battle with Mace Windu. It was Sith alchemy that helped him achieve his “normal” appearance. He elected to appear as “deformed” during his battle with Mace to finally push Anakin over the edge, as well as to fool the galactic senate into thinking it was the Jedi who did this to him. All part of his lies and deception.

Apparently they cut out some dialogue where he asks Kenobi to help him who says no, and that's why Anakins mouth moves but says nothing and then he says I hate you, kind of the same thing as instead of talking him down when they pause in fighting he just berate him shutting down any real chance to change his mind given he was still on the knifes edge.

"He couldn't blame Palpatine." Anakin should have though. If he had any common sense, Anakin would remember that Palpatine has tried to kill Padme for years and he was in command of the Separatists who all wanted her dead since the Naboo invasion. Unfortunately, the dark side makes people stupid which is why Anakin went after the wrong targets.

Anakin was a hormonal teenager with high insecurity and an obsession with a girl. He had no father. Obi Wan was like an older brother that he was jealous of. Basically he was highly immature for his age and easily deceived by a master like Palpatine. Then once Anakin was filled with the dark side he just went brat mode and got himself almost killed. Nothing new here. We see this every day in life.

Wasn't just the corruption of the force. He did possess negative emotions about Obi Wan. He felt he was being held back and when they were at any Jedi council, he didn't really protect or have his back and would always take the council's side as gospel blindly. He was the opposite of QuiGon ignoring the will of the force over blindly following the Jedi. Anakin didn't need to be held back, he simply needed real council as he learned. He never received that. They always looked upon him with suspicion. Anakin knew this and hated that. He felt like a step child. Why do you even have ObiWan apologizing to him, "I'm sorry Anakin for all of it". He "DID" have some apologizing to do on his side.

It didn't happen quickly in the book. But George made poor editing choices that removed key scenes that would've served the film better. That, and wasting an entire film telling us Vader's story as an 8 year.old as if a few lines of dialogue couldn't have established his childhood backstory just as well (or much better given that slave life didn't exactly seem miserable for Anakin in that film). Yipppeeeeeeee!!
