Well, thanks to you and videos by others I had the nerve to crack open the back and found a small piece of plastic from the reset button over the volume button. Clipped the extra plastic and now it works fine. Again thanks to you and other you tubers.

YAY, some Mr. Driller love! Absolutely love seeing my ports in action. =) If you're interested in playing some old adventure games, try the ScummVM port. It does a LOT of games at this point. From Maniac Mansion all the way to Shivers and Phantasmagoria. There are still some small bugs I'm sorting out, but hopefully it will tide everyone over while I work on the port of my DOSBox changes. IIRC, you get out of MAME by using L1+R1+Select. There are also some power button combinations like Power+Select to kill the current application. Be warned that if your console ever goes nuts, you may have accidentally changed the device mode. I think Power+A enters mouse mode. Which messes up all the controls. Hit it again to go back. HDMI is not broken. It's just not implemented. I wouldn't hold your breath on it getting implemented soon. As you've already figured out, the firmware situation is a mess. The 1.5 release was an official kernel update. But then some guys tried to do some bundled distributions and called them 1.6 and 1.7. Now we've got people trying to fix stuff and putting out 1.5.2, 1.6.2, and 1.7.2. Yeah. I think we've all agreed now that this approach was a bad idea and that we need to refocus on doing kernel development separate from application development. With any luck, this will make releases make more sense in the future. In addition, you shouldn't need to open the console again. You may have noticed it wasn't really designed to be opened as the designers assumed we'd use software patches instead. (Some of the additional reasons why the 1.6 - 1.7 fiasco was a mess.) Glad you're enjoying the console. Hopefully we can keep bringing sanity. :-)

As Zocker Omi pointed out Rob, the HDMI is not broken, it's just not enabled in the firmware yet. So no worries on that front!

I never actually tried the stock firmware. I put the Rogue firmware in right away and I've had it for about a week now. I couldn't get Quake to work, but Rogue had an update a couple of days ago and Quake works now, except I can't get the extra mission packs to work. There's a Diablo port which is awesome and I am primarily using the PcSX4all, FBA, Dosbox and Mame4all emus, which don't run some games but run most very well. I am extremely happy with this handheld and uber excited to see what's in store for it as further developments become available.

P.S. I don't really like the official RG-350 case, so instead I got an external laptop hard drive case on Amazon. You just have to make sure to look at the dimensions. I got a really nice one that it fits perfectly in, for under ten bucks which is padded, shockproof and has a pocket for a usb cord and earbuds.

I talked to ANBERNIC..... usb c 1 and hdmi port doesn't work right now,but it will with updates.... every emulator exit menu button is different, try -- select, start+select, click once power button, R1+select button, L1+R1+select. If you started the game from game menu, just press start in game choose exit/quit game,just like on pc.

WOW 1k view in a few days, GG my friend! (you deserve more, of course!) This device is really appealing to me... but as a full newbie with open dingux... I might wait for a little that more tutorial videos on youtube come out so I won't be frustrated. But, playing PS1 on the go is what I want. There were a lot of RPGs in PS1 I would like to do again during my commuting time. Also a little bit of Neo Geo games.

To exit the emulator you need to assign a key or check to see what is assigned. Open the menu, General Inputs, User Interface and then "UI Cancel" is the button you want. It's normally ESC on PC Mame. It backs you out of the menus and exits the emulator.

Thanks for another great review and mention of N64 games, which some other reviews didn't get into. I'm sold though. I just ordered one on Amazon. Paid $10 more than the one you link to, but the trade-off is I'll get it in two days. I do have a PSP, but I love variety and collecting this stuff, plus the dual joystick option for PS1 games is way better. Cool that it has DOSBox too. There are mame roms that emulate old handheld LED games which I'm dying to test on this. Couldn't get them to work on the PSP.

The LDK is the shnizzie, but the battery life sucks. Is the RG350 better? I'm about to find out! For backup I'm pairing my kindle fire HD8 with a IPEGA controller, because emulation on a Kindle is spot on!

I see that there was already a comment on the HDMI, so Im not repeating the same stuff. Anyways it is a really cool console. Playstation surely would work flawlessly with those specs, those are pretty similiar to the Orange Pi Lite computer, Ive been using since 2017 for emulating the Playstation, and I never had any problems with PS. Its worth mentioning that the Orange Pi runs the 32x, and some N64 games, so like you said - ita just a matter of time to implement it all for the open dingux

I am broke, this is well a problem however, I do have something i can sorta compare. The 60hz RS-97 V.3. I was wondering, would you give it a comparison? I know, I know, IPK is different from OPK but still for a broke person like myself. I do like to play Duke, Quake 1, 2, and Even Doom on my RS97. When i get more money i will be making a play at this and other devices but until then I think it might be neat to see that comparison and even trying out some of the historically harder known PSX games to emulate and maybe having a go at 32x or even some harder known Mame games. Thanks ROB awesome dude. P.S. I would recommend going to the "Retro Game Handhelds" Discord and learning a lot from them there even have a funky low analog mod there for both sticks.

You say you can choose the rom directory for the mame4all emulator. But you didn’t show how. I see a list of Roms that came with my rg350 but what directory is it looking in? And where can I add more Roms so that mame4all will see it

Mine came with no roms, but are your extra ROMs installed on the external SD, or are they inside the unit? I was able to kick off rom directory selection by renaming my current mame ROM directory and starting mame: It could not find the directory so it allowed me to browse to a new one.

It's a Wonderful system and it plays lots of games and game systems it'll load Nintendo DS although it runs really slow too bad there's not an overclock feature I tried setting up MSX but I can't figure it out maybe you could do a video showing how to set up msx,amiga,dosbox, commadore,atari st

Now there is the pocket go 2 with the same cpu and it costs only about $50. But I'm very happy with my rg-350.

this device looks really really cool and I love how it just is but it is a shame that the HDMI port does not work I hope they do the same thing that the bittboy did by making new revised models fixing all of the predecesers problems but one thing is does it save your game progress because i have had experienced times were other handhelds much like this one don't save right and in Pokemon (which I love playing on these things) did not save and I lost all my progress

i think i have 1.7 firmware, my device came with quake 2 but it doesnt map the Aiming to the right stick... how did you manage that on your version of the game?

Download the latest Quake 2 OPK from rs97.bitgala.xyz/RG-350/localpack/ (I think it's under extra games) It has the second stick pre-mapped. Note that on mine firmware 1.7 would not allow saving -- but they may have fixed that on later 1.7 versions (It's beta so...).

RG 350 is the same as the gcw zero and use the same software and apps and emulators to get out of the Mame for all Hold both L & R buttons and push start

Thanks Rob, I just received this unit (Black & Orange) yesterday, its fantastic, so happy with it. Would be interested in any other information on how to set this up with new firmware and how to achieve the online connection to install new Roms etc etc- internally. BTW Press L1 & R1 in first then press select & start at same time to reset back to the Mame4All menu.

Grab the latest OPK update from here: github.com/tonyjih/RG350_linux/releases Copy the file to the /media/data/apps folder using Dingux Commander to copy from the external SD to the internal folder. This will create an installer that you can run to get your unit up to date. There are some distributions floating around named 1.6 and 1.7. These are broken. Do not try to install them. Stay on the latest version from above (which is the official "1.5" release) until we get things sorted.

I have the RG 350 and I can confirm that the D-Pad wears out when you use it a lot playing fighting games. I would hope for a better quality although the performance is pretty good!

@TheWhateverGuy I don't know dude. I colored the D-pad with a black pen and it looks fine for now. But I'm not gonna buy any device from them in the future. I suggest you to get the Pocket Go 2 or the GKD 350H!

@TheWhateverGuy The Pocket Go 2 has 4 shoulder buttons and 1 analog which is perfect fine to play most of the PS1 Games. The GKD 350H just have 2 shoulder buttons and 1 analog and you must map the buttons to play the PS1 games accordinly. There's a third option which is the Super Retro Handheld that plays fighting games perfectly with one analog, one circular D-pad and 6 buttons like the sega saturn. You decide what's the best for your needs!

I'm having trouble with the volume control. It worked the first couple of times that I used it. I turned down the volume, and now when I hit the plus [+] volume up it resets the machine. Yes, I am careful and not touching the reset button. I also don't know how to get out of MAME 4 All without reseting. Have you opened uptake back yet?

FYI: I had a problem with my power button: It actually had come off inside. I was able to solder it back in. Might want to pop yours open and take a look -- They all use the same type of contacts. Mame for all is both shoulder buttons, start and select...

L+R+START to exit game from MAME4ALL. Also you should leave XMAME, cause it supports more roms than MAME4ALL, and supports screenshots & favorites. MAME4ALL does not support any of that. FBA use it for all CPS1, CPS2 games. CPS3 unfortunately does not run well. FBA mame roms is also another thing to look, cause you can play (as an example) through that metal slug 4, 5, X. Both MAME4ALL & XMAME romsets do not support them. Last note it definitely accepts 256gb card, i am using one. Very nice info for the PSX though, i will try them.

Mine came with no games installed so I have no idea. The good news is most of the emulators allow you to designate the directory your roms are in so that you can just put them on the external SD...

Check to make sure the roms are not zipped: I don't think the console ones will accept them. Im pretty sure neogeo NEEDs the roms to be zipped.

Depends on the version you get. Some are advertised with 3000+ ROMs. Mine was not, so it only came with a few of them. It usually will say on the listing.

It really depends -- if you want a machine that you just set up and be done with it the PSP is a great choice. The tradoffs are that the PSP sceen is wider so you either will have black bars on the edge or have to stretch the image -- that does not bother me but some folks dislike it. Also the analog "nub" on the PSP vs the Dual full analog sticks on this device. I would say that the PSP has a really solid and well developed set of emulators, while this one is still just starting out.

So, this thing is twice as much as the Q9, but doesn't seem to come with any games,...whereas the Q9 comes with 3,000! I'm not all that tech savy so, someone's gonna have to explain that?

ROMs are freely available so they don't really have a value unless they are licensed (which they are not on the Q9) The RG350 has a faster processor (1.0ghz) than the Q9 (528mhz) , about 4x the RAM (128mb on the Q9 to 512mb on the RG350) has a larger screen (only by 1/2 inch) and has 2 full analog sticks as opposed to the Q9's single analog slider. The Q9 is a pretty solid retro handheld (I like it), but they are different classes of devices.

Different classes?,...ha! Yeah,...one you can play 3,000 games out of the box, the other you have to figure out where to find games and how to put them on the device, then how to get them to work! As for the analogue sticks, I heard they don't work with a lot of games. In fact a guy showed them not workng when he tried to play Robotron,...one of my favorites.

The dual sticks don't work with everything yet: The firmware is very much still under development just as much as the Q9 was when it was first released. For robotron you can map it to the face buttons exactly as you would for the Q9. The Q9 also has to be configured: Not all of the games work right out of the box. As I said the 3000 games really don't matter much: They are standard ROMs that will run with the 350 just as well and for the most part no real configuration is needed. The Q9 is a good device, but the raw performance of the Q9 is less than half that of the RG350. Correct -- the RG-350 is not currently a beginner-level device but neither was the Q9 when it first came out. They are getting a lot better at making the Dingux devices beginner friendly but they are not quite really general consumer level devices yet.

Considering how many amazing games there are for the Gameboy Advance I would hardly call it stuck: The micro is the coolest model of one of the best handhelds of all time!

You should re-sell it if it did not work out for you: I really wish resellers would do a better job of informing that these are really for enthusiasts.. They are definitely not the best choice for someone who wants a plug and play solution to play retro games.
