@@nicholaspesce1806 There is limited time in school. They are supposed to teach you how to further your own learning by being able to read, write, do research, etc. How to use a library, etc. Back then that's what they taught people. Now they want to teach people what you endure which is 1000X worse. They kind of gave people the tools to think, now you are told how you should think. The fact you recognize this makes you better than most of your peers. I hate to add insult to injury, but look at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue from 1964 (when they started), 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002, 2012 and then look at the one from 2022. I'm really sorry, you live in a lousy time to be young. Things have gone downhill.....FAST.

Hi Chris, such a sad part of not only local history but worldwide history. Sometimes when I hear devastating history such as this, it makes me feel disgusted to be a part of the human race and also. Those poor people, the sheer terror they had to endure during and after the riots is unforgiveable. Another great video, thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖

I dunno cuz I wasn't there, but maybe the whites had finally had enough. Might've been the straw that broke the camel's back, or so they thought. I guess you had to be there. If you were born in 1921, you'd be 102 now.

If you or Lamont should ever find yourself passing through southern Illinois in your travels, it would be great if you used your platform to tell the story of a similar atrocity, albeit on a smaller scale, that happened around this same time in the small town of Vienna. I was actually already a grown man when I learned of the events, even though I grew up just a few miles down the road from there. That's how successfully it was swept under the rug for so long. These stories deserve to be remembered. They have to be. If it makes some people uncomfortable because of what their great grandfather did, too bad.

This shameful piece of American history is rather similar to the massacre that happened in Rosewood, Florida about a year and a half later in 1923. Much of the news about what happened there was largely shoved in the closet until the 1990s when the actual victims and inhabitants were awarded a settlement. A movie based on this tragedy was filmed in 1997.

I just recently watched your Emmett Till video and can’t help but line up the similarities, a black man accused of something he didn’t do/ was grossly exaggerated to the point lives were lost. It really makes me wonder how many similar things like this have happened and never talked about/ were just brushed away never to be remembered again. So horribly cruel, but so very important to remember. I really appreciate learning from you guys, especially since there’s no sugar coating the dark history of these places.

I had briefly heard of this massacre a couple times but it wasn’t until college that it was taught to me in depth. One of my archaeology professors participated in the mass grave excavations and gave an extensive lesson about the findings and also the broader context of the massacre. It is disconcerting that this kind of history is largely overlooked in schools in favor of propaganda-like depictions of things like the pilgrims and WWII.

@@Sandlin22 I don’t recall any history book I learned from depicting it that way. In fact most of them did teach about the African participation in the slave trade. But just because Africans were captured and sold into slavery by other Africans doesn’t negate the suffering they experienced under white slaveholders in the US. I’m not sure what your point is here.

@@bananaguy123456789 Yeah, well if the Africans didn’t sell their own people, they would’ve just suffered being slaves to the Africans instead of us. Also, did you know that 1/3 of the slave owners in the South were actually Free black men? Yeah! Also, the Natives owned black slaves too. It was a business, a way of life back then, and it was LEGAL. That why I’ll NEVER feel bad nor apologize for my Ancestors owning over 800 slaves back in the day. @@tinydancer867 There are people who are likely descendants of non-slave black population and post-slavery immigrants who claim to be victims of slavery too. They're losers. I've done my family research and found a likely slave owner born in the 1700's, but a likely slave born 1820ish in my lines. That means I likely have more slave ancestors than slave owner ancestors. What am I supposed to do? Hate myself? Oh, no. I'll pass. I'm not a leftist. That is who they really hate as they engage in their silly deflections on what is wrong in their lives.

To bad we can care for one another like the brothers and sisters that we are . Evil people come in all shapes and sizes but love will always conquer. We are near the end of another dispensation this year, the numbers don't lie. God Bless

You need a prescription of valium apparently. I remember I got really mad at the Goths sacking Rome too and had to go to counseling to get over it.

Strange how so few people from the US know about this. I as a Brit learned of this years ago so it’s not like it’s hidden.

I think it's partial willful ignorance. People act like they weren't taught about this and act so shocked. But then they get mad about being "white shamed" if their kids are taught about this in school.

It was. White fragile egos got all up in arms and made sure this curriculum is blocked in schools. Pathetic.
