Wow that was a real adventure retracing the original trails. After 35 years you might expect some parts to no longer have access even with parts being blocked by snow things can change in that time. I hope the Defender that get wet did make it back home without too many problems. You most certainly would not want to be driving through there in complete darkness! Thanks for all your filming Steve and taking us along with you I really enjoyed the American scenery. 👍👍

Patti from Himrod, lol, we drive through it to/from Watkins Glen off Route 14, in fact will go through there Wednesday on the way down to the SVRA race weekend this next week. But yes, rather obscure place to be from, but a good place to grow up nonetheless!

It was reassuring to see that the "drowned" Defender was still able to continue under its own power after the immersion!. The electronics and connections of the new Defender are rated at IP67 which means that these components can be submerged to one meter in fresh water for one hour. It also has a wading depth of 900mm. Not many modern 4wd vehicles can match that capability given that all of them now have complicated electronic systems.

What a great Adventure!!... thanks for sharing your video... certainly alot of effort to pull it all together. I spent a winter in Colorado in 1976...it's an American dream to be there. Having been on numerous Rallies in my Mini Cooper S, it struck me that this is an ideal number of vehicles for this kind of expedition... no one gets behind... you are not struck in a 20 mile long train.... excellent travel log , Steve!!!

Looked like a fun trip Steve!

Seems everyone forgot a basic principle of walking the trail before so you know what you’re getting into - with that water crossing

A lot of "unsaids" about that fiasco.

Was the tree die off due to the East Troublesome Fire in 2020? Looks like more fun on a bike though...

Nice trip but not exactly roads you need a defender for, looks like about 90% you do in an sprite, just the last water crossing section was getting a bit rough.

Everything always looks a lot easier on camera, also its not that a car couldn't drive down some of those roads but it takes a better vehicle to withstand that punishment for a week straight. Sure I could drive a Sprite down some of the roads but how many flat tires and bent suspension parts would I have afterwards... This trip was about the adventure and camping wherever the road leads you.

I drove Sprites for 11 years... smooth dirt roads are one thing, but Rocky Mountain passes are a Totally Different Ballgame!!

I try not to talk trash in youtube comments but the Land Rover Defender just isn't the same. They have their place but man to have to worry about that much electronics in a "defender" is a sad site.

I have a "classic" Defender. It also has electronics under the right hand front seat and would have also been affected by that immersion. I have driven with a classic Range Rover that stopped running after wading above door sill depth. Didn't you notice that the Defender was able to continue under its own power after that?
