All these have 2.8 inch screens. The boxes and many sellers say it's 3.0 screen but that's the bezel size, the actual usable display it's 2.8 inch Also, the battery is not a real BP-5L standard, the contacts are not at the same place. You may try using a smaller BL-5C battery and secure it with some tape

I've tested all of the Chinese ones available. I've come to like the retrogame 300 the best. The screen isn't as nice as LDK but the screen size is what makes it more enjoyable for me

Totally agree. I have the rg300 v2 and this is my current favorite handheld. Screen is great, emulators are running perfect (with cfw), ergonomics are great, and battery life is way better than the other handhelds.

i'm having worries about some games of the snes, do yoshi's island works good on this one? i know for a fact that ldk and pocket go sucks at some games.

@@Ti0Luch0 indeed Yoshi's island does not run well. More generally the snes games using special chips are not running well. I tested some ps1 games and most run ok. This handheld uses the exact same cpu as the ldk. So exact same performance has to be expected.

I love the idea of these handheld retro setups. I really like the idea of having something small enough to fit into my pockets that can play “almost” any retro game I want to play, without dragging around an android tablet, or other larger size device. If only they wouldn’t have scrimped on the screens!

The colour and pixel density is the best amongst these devices, most are 320x240 this ones 960*480 with real glass front. DroiX RG300 is the best one.

Pretty sure 3x320x480 just means it's a 320x480 pixel resolution screen with 3x colour channels, i.e. RGB, not a 960x480 resolution.

The product listing on the Amazon page for the 300 states that it's also an IPS lcd. I wonder if there is a response time difference between the two. I can't really see the graininess that you're talking about in the videos, though, I could see the brightness difference in the still image. Was the brightness cranked on both of the devices?

Awesome review. I've only got my hands on the most recent BittBoy, but have been peeking at the RG300 for quite a while. Can you speak to the battery life of it compared to the BittBoy or PocketGo? That's my main gripe with them is the 3-ish hour battery.

All RetroFw devices have 320x480px screen, but for better aspect ratio the developers use the 320x240px in all of them.

Don't listen to him. I just got mine and it's my favorite! The custom version of RetroFW they include even has all the latest fixes for all the programs. (Both emulators and ports.) Whoever made this did a REALLY good job with it.

There must be a new version. Hard to tell since like 5 companies sell the RG300. Bought this month and my screen has NONE of those issues. It’s perfectly viewable at almost 180 degrees both ways and not grainy.

Can anyone please tell me how I can put roms on my RG300. I didn't have any roms pre-installed with it. Via USB nothing seems to work. And I can't see my SD card (fotmatted in Fat32, with roms on it). I don't know what to do. Hopefully somebody can help me out. Bernard

From what I could see in your screenshot comparison it looks more dull (lower contrast and/or brightness) than grainy.

Pics and video I couldnt get a very good image to show the issue, but it is very grainy. Its really difficult to show, but in an image thats all blue for example on the RG300 its textured, like a grain, on the LDK game or other consoles its smooth. Its something I wish I was able to demonstrate better, but just couldnt capture it well. But at the same time, the RG 300 screen is more dull as well.

I've just got one of the new snes style RG300s and I have to say my biggest sticking point even with this improved firmware is the low screen brightness - be warned folks, it's far dimmer than the LDK or the Pocket GO (I have both) and it's really annoying. As it stands I can't recommend this but apparently this isn't the case on the older version with the black screen border? I wish a new firmware could increase the brightness, given this device has great battery anyway, I'd happily sacrifice an hour or two of battery life in favour of a brighter screen, I could always turn the brightness down to extend the battery if needed. Be warned folks and most of all ...please please fix this!!

I personally think this feels better and is more comfortable than the RetroFlag GPI case, but not a better product. A little different category of product in my opinion, but for the compatibility and customization I prefer the GPi case. If it had the same type of shoulder buttons that would be amazing!

Producing a run of a few hundred or even a couple thousand of these devices is suuuuper easy to do in places like Shenzhen. Bargain bin is the name o da game. They could make a great handheld but the $ lies with this kind of crap. The margins are way bigger with cheaply produced electronics. Get in, get out, cash the cheque.

MLP has probably seen more of these devices than 95% of the techtubers out there. He's been at this game for quite a while now and has no reason to favor or exaggerate anything. I bought this because of the SNES colour buttons. I have to point out to people that it just will not run FX chip games well EVER unless there is some update or emulator update, and it actually really struggles with mode 7 games too - they are kinda playable with frame skip on auto. Mode 7 was pretty blurry sometimes anyway so you might enjoy it. 8 bits play great including GameGear and Game Boy, Genesis seems good so far, just no 32X games, they were horrible no matter what I tried and Game Boy Advance did great. I will wait until the updated console comes, but until then I will enjoy playing Game Boy, in the dark!
