Any Android for NON-DEDICATED Retro machines guide on your site? Your video about an Android phone as a dedicated Retro Machine is great but I think one of the best advantages of using an Android phone as a (non-dedicated) retro machine is that you just need to carry one device around and you are good to go. Also if your phone is a decent machine you are getting a lot of horsepower. I am going through a series of hiccups trying to set up RetroArch and the DIG front end on my device. Sometimes cores that are correctly loaded in Retroarch gives me trouble when I use EMU to try to launch them and finding the right sets of ROMS for the current Retroarch version is being a bit tricky. I am a bit of a newbie in all this so please let me apologise if something here makes no sense and I there am a fairly straight forward process that I missed out. I guess that is one of the reasons I think having a guide on your site would be great idea. Btw, I am loving the channel. Thanks for the great work.

And they’re typically some over seas scams to subject you to, at the very least, advertising and ways to get you to pay for something else if not something more malicious.

Small tip for those that need "developer mode", after side loading the app, go to settings>privacy & security>scroll down and turn on "developer mode". You will only find this AFTER you sideload an app

Setting this up on an iPad Pro 2020 is amazing. Got DolphiniOS set up on it too and it's basically flawless. Pair it with apple air play and well, yeah I'm set with console games for life at this point.

@@ScrabblePlays u have to download the cores yourself. It won't automatically download the cores. Tap on load core once you open retroarch and click download core. And then u have to choose which core you have to download. There are multiple cores for popular systems with different features select the one u want. If u don't know which one to select a quick Google search will help you. Once you tap on the core it will download. Then you have to tap on load content navigate to the games and tap on the game. If u only have one core per system downloaded it will automatically open the game. If u have multiple cores if will ask you which one u want to choose.

The biggest issue with iPhone is the locked down ness. But the OS is so buttery smooth and I seen how it handles ps2 emulation even better than android. But android the system is more open you can just download a emulator much easier

@@andersonjray I found this on Reddit it also worked for me, looks like u cant install .ipa larger than 300mb. I have had the same issue. My work around is to open the RetroArch IPA on a PC in the 7zip GUI (Don’t extract it, just open it through the program). Navigate through the folders until you find the cores and you can delete any that you don’t use. For me, I delete all the MAME cores (I only use FBNeo) and the SCUMMVM core. This gets it down to ~250mb and it installs fine.

For n 64 use the nightly retro arch and use mupen 64 core.

My n64 emulator was working, the only thing I did differently was do a manual scan of the directory, and specify the N64 libero core as the default core when conducting the scan, and it works

The ultimate portable emulation machine is an Android device with Apple's silicon inside. The newest iPhones and iPads have probably the best emulation performance for a portable ARM device. However, setting it all up in iOS looks to be an absolute nightmare compared to Android. And setting up RetroArch on any device is complicated enough in itself!

Yeah I never was a retro arch guy even on android or pc so yeah I can imagine on a iPhone I got iPhone 13, Samsung note 10+ that just got the screen unfortunately broken (it’s still expensive repair and sucks cause that phone emulates beautifully) and a google pixel Xl first gen 2016 that battery degraded so dam fast it’s not funny google pixel Xl og probably has one of the worst phone batteries to ever come out

Great video man 👌 but....wow.....now I understand how much easier it is for me an Android user to play emulators. I mean.....in iOS you have to do all of this or pay money for extras while in android you have : PS1, PS2, psp, 3ds, DS, Wii, GameCube, GBA( generally all old consoles) for free. Also there is a Nintendo switch emulator. And the only thing you have to do is just download them and you're done. I'm so glad there's a way for iOS users to emulate some of the old consoles though. It's better than nothing.

One thing to keep in mind as I tried to load alt store on my son's phone so he could play that if you use an icloud account with a person who is not over 18 it won't work. Basically you need to make an icloud account that is an "adult" to use alt store.

btw Altstore have now beta, that should support JIT again (Patreon only). I did even tried debbuger trick to run Dolphinios and that works too, but you must run the app from your computer command line every time, which is very limiting (and it does not work on M1 Macs).

Great video! And about Virtua Fighter, I think all of those sega Model 1, 2, and 3 games run better on separate model emulators and not MAME. I havent tried anything for model 1, but for Model 2 games (vf2, dead or alive, Last Bronx, etc) I've used M2 Emulator. It would be interesting for you to see if that ran on ios.

Nintendo is missing out on making so much money. They could make different versions of a backbone type controller, then set up a subscription service and app to let you download games. Let the games come with the service up to N64. Then charge 5 or 10 dollars a pop for games after that.

I use the gamesir x2 lighting controller it's great tbhhh it's better then the razor kishi that strap broke for me and the backbone is good but the x2 the lighting port is movable like it won't break and plus the controller feels good I never had the backbone but I know you have to take off you're case unless you have a thin case and the the x2 works with a case

This is truly a nightmare to get working, most times Delta just doesn’t install. I got it working for a while but then something happened and it disappeared. Haven’t been able to get it working since. Definitely not worth the trouble in my opinion.

I seen a video of the a15 chip iPhone 13 running Star Wars roque squadron 2 at 60 frames only one minor dip I seen in the video was 54 frames and even the latest androids struggle to emulate that game at 60 most androids struggle with 30-40 frames for that game

@@robmalcolm8042 Oh I didn't mean it ran badly, I have a 13 Pro and it ran Donkey Kong perfectly, the issues I had were that it wouldn't recognise my Razer Kishi at all even though it had it listed in the settings whereas Delta has no problem with it. I also have problems with enabling JIT and at the moment every single game just crashes on launch.

I have this problem. No matter what I do, I can't refresh the apps wirelessly. Yes! I followed all the guides, Itunes/icloud/altstore are all up to date. I've enabled sync over wifi in iTunes, both my ipad pro 5th gen and my laptop are connected on the same wifi network. Yes! I made sure Altstore server is running. When I try wirelessly to refresh the apps on my iPad, I keep getting altstore server not found. It works flawlessly when it's wired. I hate to have to keep using usb c cable.

Makes sense you need windows to use your iPhone for this purpose. Some iPhone users don’t have a windows machine. I’m inclined to just buy a decent android and go that route instead.

Is there any special way to setup PC roms? I’ve never played any on retroarch, and thanks to this guide finally set mine up on my iPhone. I do have a version of retroarch installed that I believe I downloaded directly. It’s a slightly older version, but n64 and and ps1 seem to run fine. iPhone 8 Plus jail broken on 13.3 Is jail broken iPhones something you think you’ll ever cover?

I’m jailbroken on 13.3. I have retroarch 1.8.0 installed. It used to work. It opens, but every time I try to run a rom, it crashes. I have a 1.9.x ipa downloaded, and I can find it, but I’m getting an error message when trying to install it : (

I just don’t think retro gaming is worth it on an iPhone, they make it so difficult and the constant maintenance to make sure your games continue to work is just a lot, better off getting a RG350. But this is just my opinion, love the video regardless, nice of you to make a tutorial for those that don’t have any other option.
