357 SIG is the perfect pistol round for personal protection, as long as a person doesn't have a weak grip or bad form. 357 SIG expands reliably, penetrates deep, delivers a lot of energy on target, at 50 yards it still has the velocity and energy of a 124 grain 9mm at the muzzle. It has a bottle necked casing so it feeds and extracts more reliably. I don't care what anyone says, for people that know how to properly hold and shoot a pistol it has everything you'd want from a self defense round. 540 efp at 1,400 fps with 13+1 capacity, that's pretty dang good.

@rifleshooterchannel208 27 күн бұрын
I’ll agree with all of your points besides the theory of the bottleneck round being more reliable. There’s really no data to back this up and the neck on the .357 Sig is very short with very little bearing surface and you better hope the factory applied a hearty crimp (be it taper or roll) at the factory because I have seen even Gold Dots set back after a single chambering.

The problem with the round is it isn't "better" enough to warrant people to switch to it from 9mm or 40. And the price of those rounds, especially 9mm, are just too low to compete with unless the cartridge performed magic. So unless somebody makes a round that can file your taxes, fix your marriage and stop a platoon in one shot, it will be very difficult for it to compete on the market.

Back in the days when Corbon was still owned/run by Peter Pi - they produced what was arguably the best self defense ammunition on the market. I still own boxes full of JHP that look exactly like the one in your review. Mine are 45ACP JHP manufactured in 2005. Another great test, Brian! I don't shoot the 357 Sig and if I weren't so old & broke, I'd probably get one! It's a very impressive caliber and the more I see of it the better I like it! Ok, not enough to give up my 10mm but still, always impressive! I still believe Marshall & Sanow regarding fragments: those that stay in the wound track do not contribute to wounding while those that make it out if the wound track do. So while losing material in this case all or most of the frags do stay in the wound track, the damage is still impressive! I don't think too many calibers can best the 357 Sig and honestly can't understand why is isn't more popular than it is. It is, without doubt one if the best carry rounds available! Cheers, jc

One of these days I hope to run up on two pistols and ammo for each, one in .357 Sig and one in .38 Super. After all this time you would think I would have crossed paths with a .357 Sig pistol but not yet! Nor have I seen a single box of ammo in the caliber. And I think that sucks!!! Sadly, I have not seen a pistol chambered in .38 Super in something like twenty years nor any ammo in about as long. But here's the kicker. Way back when, it was not unheard of to find 125-135grn JHP ammo for the .38 Super that clocked in at almost exactly the same velocities that the .357 Sig does today. There was one other difference when it comes to the .38 Super as the only pistols I've ever seen or owned, and I owned several in my younger days, were to be found only in the 1911A1 or its clones. When it comes to pistols and ammo that I've heard of but never seen in person only the .30 Super Carry equals the .357 Sig when it comes to apparent Unobtanium. Or so it seems to date. I really enjoyed this video! Keep 'em comin'!!!

Nice! Definitely close on the velocity and awesome on the penetration. Good fragspansion as you say lol. I’d say Corebon got it right even back in the day. The bullet looks like an XTP to me but possibly not. Either way great test. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

Centerfire systems had used .357 sig barrels for Glock pistols so I called them to see what models the barrels would fit, but the guy on the phone didn't know. Are there any bulk ammo deals on .357 sig or .41 magnum? Centerfire system had a deal over a year ago on 500 rounds of .40 reloaded ammo. It was a grab bag of chrome plated and brass cases with 165 grain hp's and soft point bullets. I shot about a 100 rounds out of a Taurus TH40 and it wasn't weak ammo, it was a good deal.

I think the SIG 357 is more powerful than 40SW if using the same brand and type ammo in the order per power 9mm 45acp 40SW SIG 357 10MM of your basic semiautomatic hand gun rounds SIG 357 and 10mm beat 40SW 45acp 9mm if the same brand and type ammo is used in each

357Sig is the best, most optimal semi-auto cartridge available. 40S&W and 10mm are good too but the 357Sig, properly loaded, is the best. 9mm is a garbage round for amateurs and people who can't shoot and the reason why they give it to law enforcement and the military. The old Cor-Bon was great, the new stuff is nothing special and all velocities are way down. Ive been running Underwood 125gr Gold Dots, then 124gr Noslers and now their "new" 124gr XTP ammo, however Buffalo Bore 125gr and Double Tap 125gr 357Sig are all great too. The Gold Dots #54234, 6 petal, have a slightly higher velocity @1375fps than their "918" 5 petal load and are an ok substitute, the 357Sig HSTs and Golden Sabers are worth the cost being they are all underpowered and do not perform anywhere near the Underwoods, Buffalo Bores and Double Taps.

Now I gotta buy a Glock 31 barrel 😂 50 round boxes of 357 sig HST AND GOLD DOTS online ! Might have to snag a few hundred rounds! I’m more 10mm but 357 sig is a nice caliber to have around. Ammo shortage happens again these odd calibers are good to have on hand

If I didn't have a .38 Super already, I might look at the .357 Sig. But with the Super, I can load it to do pretty much the same as the .357 Sig, easily getting 1,350fps out of a 124 gr. Sig V-Crown JHP. But love all the videos!

Yeah it really is. Do you feel any difference in recoil, follow up shots or control difference between that and a 10mil? My wife likes her 10 mil for scouting but says it's a lil spicy maybe a sig will be better than her 9 though.
@ToolsandTargets
@ToolsandTargets 27 күн бұрын
@@user-dt8xy7ig2d That's a tough one. I think I would say .357 Sig is more of a snap where the 10mm is more of a boom if that makes any sense. Where 10mm can have a heavy and have to muscle it under control kind of feel, 357 Sig can have a "what the &*%$ just happened" or "disorienting" kind of feel with real hot ammo. Both can be a handful so it really is almost a toss-up.
@user-dt8xy7ig2d
@user-dt8xy7ig2d 27 күн бұрын
Yeah I hear ya. Maybe hand her 9+p, sig and 10mil and see what feels best for her. I suppose what she can control, keep on point and feels comfortable with shell be deadliest with regardless of power or penetration.

The .357 Sig earned a stellar reputation for one shot stops when it came out in 1994. The Texas DPS was having failures to stop with the Sig Sauer P220 .45 ACP. They switched to a different load and it didn’t solve the issue. They adopted the .357 Sig and it caught on with other Law Enforcement agencies. A video of a NC Trooper on a traffic stop took one quick shot on the driver and he dropped like lightning!

The problem is most have gone away from it now. The VA State Police here are the last ones using it and they are being heavily pushed to move to 9mm.

@@ToolsandTargets I remember the Glock Rep trying to make a sweet deal back in 2006 for trading our G19 for the G38 .45 GAP. I wanted the 10mm or .357 Sig. Because of budgets and ease of training with the Glock 19. The department wasn’t switching over. I know Texas DPS, New Mexico State Police, Delaware State Police, North Carolina, Kentucky State Police and Virginia State Police were the Major agencies that issued them. The Secret Service did issue the .357 Sig to Agents.
