Retro-ing and Wind Deflecting your HD Sportster S | Modifications Part 3 | Installation

S3 E17: Our modification adventures continue. This time with the installation of a headlight cowl, to give it a little retro feel and better wind resistance for those long rides.

Just got one for my sportster s the other day, having it wrapped in gloss black ppf film with a carbon fibre centre and gold pin line to match the rest of the bike, great informative video 📹 👍

That actually sounds like it's gonna' be a great color combination. Trying to convince Chad to paint his orange with either some black racing stripes or an old school racing number. I don't think he'll do it. Glad you liked the video.

You wouldn’t think that such a small wind deflector would prove beneficial so was surprised that Chat said that it actually resulted in noticeably less wind force on a riders chest. Great video! Keep up the good work!👍

Thanks for the guide guys , I just did this install but I didn’t have to remove the dash . Only moved the left blinker out of the way . I had an extra set of fingers to help me line up the screws but 👍

☝️🎃 Where’d you get the orange????? Beautiful! And the only reason I haven’t traded my Baja Orange StreetBob 114 in for this bike yet… is because I don’t like any other colors. That orange is damn near spot on the same color as my Streetbob. I don’t see any orange ones.

It is Lamborghini orange. I can get you the color code, if you'd like.

The original showroom color was Vivid Black. Had it painted at a local paint shop called, ‘Lamborghini Orange.’ We’re happy with it too.

Looks good!! The faring does make it look more aerodynamic and sleek. I like the black and I believe orange would also look just as good. I would probably go with black.

But but the sportster is all about feeling the wind everywhere. The adrenaline boost you get when you go over 200 and have that force trying to rip you off the bike into your certain death. That’s the whole selling point of this moon unit.

Don't disagree. However, for some longer trips it did come in handy.

I think owners of new sportys with the rev max engines should all invest into killer sound systems and then play a recordin of a evo powered sportster so you don't offended those of us with functional ears with that horrid rev max exhaust note, worst soundin engine on the planet, hands down. with the horrid exhaust note, all the tech and mechanical problems, these new sportys make the streets seem cool.

Or you could just change the exhaust out. The sound of it is due to the government regulations more than anything. Same thing with the scaffolding for the rear lights and licenseplate holder. That's not HD's choice, the goverment is requiring that. I've changed my stock exhaust out and the change is sound is amazing. It sounds fantastic now. It does NOT sound like a traditional HD though, but still very good. The tech and mechanical issues are overblown online. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. The vast majority of the bikes work perfectly fine. Some of the '21's did have some issues with not starting on the first try, but HD redesigned a part and that's been fixed and can be replaced under warranty. There were a couple of software issues early on, but again, HD has fixed that.

@@float6969 thats just it, NO exhaust system mods help the sound, just makes this horrible noise louder. You are lyin to yourself if you think it sounds good and you know it lol The rev max sportys are just another "street" failure for HD.

@@billwilliamson9842 I genuinely love the way my bike sounds now. I'm not your "typical" Harley guy, and have had Japanese bikes in the past, and I like to wrench on Japanese cars, so maybe my ears are different than yours. There's plenty of people buying these bikes. The company that made my exhaust can't even keep them in stock. Must not sound that bad to that many people.

@@float6969 I'll stand by what I say, it doesn't even sound as good as the worst soundin metric. If they want a new sporty, there is no alternative, so they gotta buy them. they are a great lookin bike, great performance, the jury is still out on the gee whiz tech since it has been troublesome for a lot of people but a Harley has always been synonymous with a good sound. the rev max engine just ain't got it and time will prove I'm right. I bet they do a total redesign within the next 10 years if not sooner.
