I have a 2005 as well and we love it. Yeah it’s getting old and we’ve performed all sorts of repairs to it over the years but this thing is a tank! It won’t die. It doesn’t get stuck. If treated and maintained correctly it’ll probably last longer than the new one we have.

Just got a free 500 from a ranch buddy of mine. Got a new engine about 100 hours ago but been sitting for two years. Didn't turn over for me but with the help of your videos (thank you!), I'm hoping this turns out to be a good UTV for us. Couldn't beat the price.

My grandpa has a 06 ranger 500. It only has 600 hours! He bought it used in 09. It competes fine with my newer machine. I really think the older 500 is one of the best rangers ever built.

Love the retro review. I just bought my first side by side this summer, a 06 ranger 700xp and am looking forward to a similar video

It’s actually identical other than a bigger engine, bigger tires and heavier springs.

I just picked one up last week. Only 636 hours on it! Dude couldn't figure out why it was flooding.... no intake manifold bolts! New fuel filter and some fresh fuel lines. Starts and purrs like a kitten. Now to figure out why it won't engage the front axle in 4wd, and find some tail light housings for less than the dealer price.

Try powersportsnation.com for taillights. I get all my used parts from them. Usually it’s due to PDM failure for awd(any electrical issue). Those PDMs are horrible lol. Can always run jumper wire from battery into switch.

Very good info. I’ll have to go look at a few things. I’ve always wondered if mine was 04 or 05. I bought it as an 05 several years ago. But my rear diff lock is manual, and my hitch is the smaller one. Also, I’m experiencing a loss of power or fuel when mine gets hot. I can sit for 15 minutes or so and it’s fine. I’ve tried pouring cold water on the fuel pump and fuel lines, and that’s inconclusive with just two tests so far. It seemed to cut the down time to 5 minutes the first time, not so much the second time. Thoughts? I’m pretty much believing it’s either the stator or it’s vapor locking.

Love the video! Question tho, What is that clear tube for @6:08 coming from the carb? I have an 06 and it doesn’t have that. Also, where do your carb vent lines run to?
@montemania1982102 жыл бұрын
The clear tube at rear of carb are the vent lines, they vent into the frame. The blue tube coming off carb and running forward is the fuel pump vacuum source, this ranger was switched over to a vacuum fuel pump instead of electric. Thanks for watching and thanks for the questions hopefully I answered them for you.

I just purchased one and it is making a clicking sound in the right front when i turn the wheel. what could this be?
@youknow93282 жыл бұрын
It has a 1000 lb payload capacity in the bed?! I thought it was 450 lbs? If so I can definitely add another 55 drum and my pump to make this my little fire truck. Or at leasst another 30 gallon drum.
@montemania1982102 жыл бұрын
Yes sir. Make sure though you raise spring cams to highest setting and move top of shock from inner mount to the outer mount on frame.

Hey Great Video and perfect timing. I'm thinking about picking up an 05 from a local horse rancher. Has 3,000 hours but in pretty solid shape. Noisy when turning wheels but oh well. What are your thoughts??
@montemania1982102 жыл бұрын
Could be just front end parts worn. Very cheap to rebuild front. Cv shafts are like 140 for pair. Ball joints,bushings and bearing cheap. For under 300 you can have a fresh front end.

My dads 04 6x6 ranger has 10,000 hours on it and counting. Use it for hunting and that thing has done things no side side should haha. I’d buy it if I were you they are tough rigs
