Retro Review Robotech Southern Cross - Return of the Masters - Palladium Adventure

Let's take a look at Palladium's Robotech RPG the Southern Cross. We will also do a deep dive into the Return of the Masters Adventure Book which takes place after series ends.

Back in the day, the idea of MOS sets in ‘Masters was exciting. I love how Palladium was able to redo this book with the second edition and provide a whole lot of detail on both the Southern Cross and the Masters, plus the new quality artwork.

@@RichardtheDungeonCrawler The second edition books swing hard in detail sections mimicking at times the Jane’s Military Recognition guides level of information.

The Sentinels book was my first try a RPG game. Now, i can say that it were not newbie friendly.

I have both versions of the Return of the Masters, the original, and the revised with the additional adventures and the additional REF mecha. I haven't run any of the adventures as written, but did combine it with the adventure from Strike Force for a Sentinels group sent to earth, that ended up in the area. They where a ground complement, so hover tanks and cyclones. Didn't get all the way through before they ended up harrying off to other parts of the world, but it was a lot fun.

That's really cool. I heard there was a revised version. What additional content comes in the extra pages? Is it worth the buy?

I seem to recall one of the classic Robotech RPG books had details about Russia's development of Robotechnology, which was kind of fun in an 80's late-Cold War kind of way. I can't remember which of the rule books that was in, though. I would have used that story idea in a game, unfortunately I didn't get too far in the game I ran.

I play a hover tank pilot

The hover tank is a pretty solid mecha. It can do a good amount of damage.
