The worst thing about this movie is that it's a time travel story with no motto whatsoever. They had the perfect ending RIGHT THERE. "Would you like to go back?" "No. I've already lived it".

@@OpenMawProductions Alright. It's not "the worst." But it's definitely representative of the laziness of the script and the absurd corporate games behind the scenes. No author would ever write a story about an elderly hero and a time travel device and then do NOTHING with any of it.

It could've been amazing. It's like they wanted it to be mediocre. I liked the movie, but I feel like the final IJ movie could've been more of an epic send-off. Instead we have him and Marion in a depressing little NY apartment
@somarriba333
@somarriba333 Жыл бұрын
There are so many ways that Short Round could have been in this movie and also explain where he's been this whole time. First, they can say that after "Temple of Doom", Indy took Short back to the States and told him to stay and get an education. That last adventure was a wake up call and thought taking a child all over the world like that is dangerous. Then we see adult Short Round as an archeology professor following in Dr. Jone's footsteps. Maybe he's Indy's assistant. This could have been him and Indy's one last adventure together with Short handling most of the action. Or maybe it's Indy's adventure but he needs to stop somewhere because he knows a guy, and that guy is Short Round somewhere in Hong Kong with his wife and kids. They are playing cards trying to cheat each other while Short's youngest is trying to pick pocket Indy. OR just a simple cameo at the end of the movie where he shows up with Marion and Mutt and HIS baby making Indy a grandpa.

OK so the girl punches indy and he wakes up in his bed. So we're supposed to believe that she dragged him Inside a plane, out of a plane, in a cab and up the stairs with him unconscious the whole time? That's one hell of a punch. Because it was simply an altered ending, and IF IT HAD TO be done this way in the last second before the release of the movie, they kinda did "the right thing", rather than leave Indy to die, and make him hand over the hat. There was clearly no way they would be able to return to that battlezone set when reshooting the ending so they did what a typical director in a hot bath would have done.

To play devil's advocate... maybe a reason he was out for so long may have also been the bullet wound and the blood loss from that? The "?" implying that it is simply a guess based on how poorly it was presented, rather than a "duh" kinda question mark... I'm not excusing it either, it seems far-fetched regardless and after watching a good chunk of this video during the premiere (needing to walk away a few times to do things), this movie is a hot mess that gives me a genuine headache.

DOD erased everything that ended CS with a happy ending! Just imagine if the movie had started out with an adult Short Round, who still wears his baseball cap AND who himself was now an archaeologist! He always saw Indy as a father figure and perhaps he felt inspired by him. He finds something mysterious and decides to seek out Indy after losing contact for the past 20 years. Indy is now head of the university and has become somewhat wealthy and famous after writing several books about his adventures over the years, which would have been later adapted into the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Him and Marion are thriving and Mutt has become much more mature with him and Indy on good terms now. Maybe he comes along for the ride? Anyway, Shorty and Indy have a very happy reunion and he manages to convince Indy into one last adventure after he privately confides to him that hes been thinking of retirement. Maybe Mutt becoming a father and his age be a motivator? They go on an adventure together and they have a touching moment in the middle. The movie ends with Indy's retirement and him taking his fedora off and putting it on Shorty's head, as a symbol of passing the torch to a younger generation. Similar to the beginning of The Last Crusade. NOW THAT would have been a trihumph! I would have loved it! It would have been so easy! What do you think?

But I have always appreciated how Michael is an Indiana Jones fan in the DEEPEST sense. This is literally THE quintessential Retroblasting....MASTERPIECE.👏👏👏👏 Especially the last chapter of how just as Gen-X was pretty much the best thing that happened to these legacy characters and stories, in the end, Gen-X also turned out to be....the WORST thing to happen to legacy characters and franchises! It's like going back to "The Rot of Gen-X Filmmaking" video, everything Michael predicted even back then......has come to pass. And just as much as we blame certain directors, Gen-X CONSUMERS share much of the blame as well. When so many of our generation willingly and feverishly spent money on inferior corporate product......just to have their nostalgia sold back to them. Michael echoes my sentiments all but EXACTLY when I look back on virtually ALL of the legacy characters we grew up with as Gen-Xers: 'Goodbye. I wish things could've ended differently'.

Michael, thank you so much for making this wonderful review! I believe Lucas, Ford, and Spielberg really cared about Indy... but as they each grew older, their perceptions changed, what they wanted out of life changed, and perhaps rabid fandom affected their goals and desires. Disney (currently) has the most money and is leading to charge with these careless mistakes and money losing efforts, and I do not think Hollywood will learn the lesson any time soon.

Brilliantly done. I am saddened that such an iconic character has been treated like a throw away cash cow, and that the the audience was seen just as expendable. Indiana Jones was the reason why I got a degree in anthropology and studied archeology. His love of adventure, history, and lore, made archeology seem electric and vibrant. All this movie did was put out the flame of hope, excitement, and curiosity that the character inspired and distilled in us. Honestly watching this movie is like an experiement to see if a film can be developed to actively suck the enjoyment out of your day. Nothing in it had the same "Fire in the belly" so to speak. It was basically elderly Ford being cut a fat check to play role of a broken depressed Indy, being escorted through the story by other people while he just dodders around the screen, while the viewer is supposed to pretend like everything is great. For as messy as Crystal Skull was, at least it was trying to be a fun movie. It didn't spend it's time degrading the main hero and undermining him in his own story.

Your love of and experience with the medium of film is very obvious, meaning you can produce a different type of video than most other full-time movie review channels make. That was an amazing deconstruction. Well done. You actually changed my opinion on story beats. I assumed Indy was the one who actually couldn’t get over the death of Mutt, and that sent him into a spiral. While he said Marion couldn’t get passed it, he would never admit to someone like Helena that it was actually him. As a viewer you have to take head-cannon leaps to get there and read into Fords performance. I think your take down is actually more on point and proves what a mess the film actually is. I was sad to see Indy end this way as well, especially when put the film in direct context to the other films and what the character truly does in them. Your point about what Star Wars, Raiders, & Superman’s impact on their time vs. where we are in cinema right now is right on point.

When a review like yours that has more length than the reviewed material in question, and yet it's much more enjoyable, informational, and logically structured than the whole plot of the movie, just tells a lot how much of a trainwreck, not only Hollywood, but our current content production has become, specially on the highlights of the main causes you made on the ending, which are simply on point.

We went from Indiana fighting tanks on horseback to a lame tuk-tuk chase. We went from running from giant boulders and surviving the deadly trials of the grail to Indy splashing some water in a drain. Oh look its Antonio Banderas for some reason! Oh he's dead. And all of this cost $300m.

The best review. The fact that Harrison Ford was ok with doing this to the character makes me not want to collect anything related. And that they had Anthony Ingruber in the film and he was not even young Indiana was a waste of talent and time Thank you for watching this cause I did not have to. Your review made me want to sell all my Indiana Jones stuff cause if the actor or producers do not care about this character and create a story so horrible cause they don’t care about the fans, legacy or just good story why should I. RIP Indiana Jones.

I am not a smart man...but i know that people who don't enjoy reading a good book or have never read a book in their life are missing out and are squandering the use of their imagination. Imo. The people writing this movie and the Star Wars stuff for Disney probably despise Reading books, but have watched many, many movies. IMHO. There's nothing wrong with liking movies btw...I ❤ a good movie. 🥰

Thanks for putting so much blood sweat and tears into this. I haven’t gotten around to wanting to watch this and it’ll probably be years before I do. I’m just honestly sick of phony cgi and the whole “ look how woke and enlightened we are “ Disney Hollywood culture. I agree with you, I like these in order of release, I LOVE TOD. I can’t believe indy uttered “ this isn’t an adventure “ in this movie ! WTF ?!

This was a bad movie. And a bad Indy movie. Last Crusade has lots of issues for me, but it’s an entertaining film. Even Skull has some cool moments at least. This was a boring mess that damaged the Indy brand.

Michael, omg where to begin. As a long time subscriber and I admit( on and off patreon supporter) this is by far, your greatest masterpiece. Seriously, Michael this was a home run. This will be the video I will recommend to friends. A video I will most definitely watch again and again. We have KZbinrs who are lazy and make half ass vids and want only super chats. Then we have true creators like you who make content worthy of supporting. Sick, bro!

It definitely ruins the allure when you find out Ford is a shallow miserable bastard. But recasting him is impossible until everyone who saw the original are all almost dead. Until then no more! The first 3 are the only movies to me. I can always rewatch them and still do.

This is probably the ending he wanted to give to solo. And I really think Harrison Ford is an ungrateful bastard. And I’ll tell you why. The very character that he trashes and craps all over is the only reason he ever had the opportunity to play Indiana Jones. Had there been no solo there would have been no Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford should realize if he does not that solo is the one that made him. And he would think he would look back on that character with a lot more fun than the animosity that he seems to. What about solo that would have been none of the other movies that he’s ever done. More than likely he would have been a second or third list actor. He would not have been a leading man. Because remember by the time he did Star Wars he was in his 40s. In this very video, Michael does point out that most actors are put on the shelf at 40. It’s not right, but it is what it is. Then came along the part of solo. And that changed everything for Harrison Ford. Doors opened up, new opportunities came down the pike. He could choose from any script. He wanted to do pretty much. He did choose. He did Indiana Jones. He did the fugitive,Air Force One, and many other films. All of it comes back to Star Wars and the character of solo.
