As a little boy I fell in love with the 1st movie. It was the first time I watched a movie and felt wrapped up by the characters, the comedy, the effects and the music all at once. The first time I wanted to dance during a movie. Next was Beverly Hills Cop and these 2 movies were why I spent the 80s constantly begging mum and dad for trips to the movies.

Born in 1980, I'm a 43 year old Hong Kong dude who grew up with Ghostbusters. I'll never forget the joy and excitement the original movie brought to my childhood, along with my love for all the 80's action figures, the cartoon, the song, and even the video games (and yes, even the nes version, but mostly the Genesis one), and now as an adult, I find myself still collection Mezco ghostbusters, and still lookin at pictures of Ecto-1 as well as proton packs and ghost traps merchandises online. The shot of Egon's ghost at the end of Afterlife brought me to tears, and this franchise will hold a special place in my heart.

The original Ghostbusters may be my favorite movie ever. When I was a kid, my mom somehow got passes when it was released. We weren’t “living-hand-to-mouth” poor, but we didn’t have money for extras like going to first-run movies in a theatre. So when she got those passes, it was just me and her going to have this movie experience together (my dad stayed home with my little brother), and it’s the greatest movie memory of my childhood. I will love the original Ghostbusters forever.

You missed Extreme Ghostbusters. Real Ghostbusters really deserved more focus as it was that cartoon and toy line that made the franchise a phenomenon in the 80s.
@aaronrocks3654 ай бұрын
Born in the early 80s, I came into this world watching Ghostbusters. I obsessed over the movie and cartoon when I was a kid so much it became a part of me. I had all of the toys and action figures, too. Even at 41 I still pop in my Blu-ray collection of GB1 & 2 like I used to do with the VHS tapes so many years ago, and I enjoy watching it so much more as an adult. I just got through watching them again and the nostalgia always leaves me wanting more. Of course, I had to watch a documentary on the history of the franchise, and that's how I ended up here. I always wondered why the original cast never made a 3rd movie, and now I know why. As solid and worthy as Afterlife and Frozen Empire are to be Ghostbusters films, they did well enough in the transition to a new generation, which is a lot less arbitrary than changing the characters completely like in the all-female cast. But, even with that, The Ghostbusters, to me, will always be Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. I wish they could have made a successful final sequel before Harold Ramis died. I always thought it would be awesome if one of the Ghostbusters movies could have taken a much darker, more serious epic horror-film-like path. Maybe that would be a great idea for a 8-part series one day.

Marketing couldn't decide what 2016 was going to be. Sequel? Remake? They tried to sell it as both, but its audience wasn't there. The fans of the franchise, from opening day in 1984, the kids who had the toys, drank the Hi-C Ecto Cooler at lunchtime, who watched the first cartoon series and played the games...THEY said, "This is not our Ghostbusters." WE said, "If you love this crap, then you buy the tickets. You buy the action figures and all the tie-ins you want. YOU support this new direction. We'll stick with our old franchise, ladies."

Yeah. I feel like Frozen Empire was just a bit of more ambition than they could properly fit into conventional movie runtime. Hopefully, they'll take note of that. The Ghostbusters fans won't mind a big ambitious narrative. It just needs to not be compressed into a single movie, or a single movie's runtime. Give us Ghostbusters: The Extended Dune-Length Epic as a 4-6 hour movie or a series of 2-3 movies, and we'll be all for it. We love the universe, the characters, the creators, the actors, the stories. We just would rather not have a 4-6 hour narrative shortened to 2 hours, because it's a lot harder to really get invested in all of what's going on.

Frozen Empire is good. It's not great, but it's certainly not bad. It is a bit too busy-feeling. It really feels like with all the stuff in it, it needs twice the run-time or a part 1 and part 2 type of separation. It's that feeling of too much going on in the allotted time that works against it. Makes it harder to really connect with the story/characters because there's so much having to bounce around.

My favourite cinema experience. I went with a few friends for the first Saturday matinee at the Odeon. There were thousands turned up for a few hundred seats. The foyer was packed but we managed to get in. Still nowhere near the ticket booth we gave the smallest guy our money and sent him crawling along the floor to get the tickets. He got there just before the police arrived to control the crowd. In the theatre the film started and the place was buzzing. As soon as Ray Parker Jr started to sing so did everyone else. About halfway through the song the film was stopped. The manager came to the front and demanded we all calm down and stop or he wouldn't restart the film. Needless to say a lot of popcorn got wasted on him. He gave up and we carried on singing. I have never seen so much excitement for a film and it didn't disappoint.

One thing I hated about the 2016 reboot. The lies slung at fans for "sexism and racism". The replacement of the originals was sexist, and attacking one of the largest segment of fans who happened to be white was racist. The media couldn't handle the backlash and lied out their a**es. Had the writers simply expanded the Ghost Busters universe initially, there wouldn't have been an issue. But yet, we were handed nostalgia wrapped crap and expected to consume "wahmen stronk" bs.

I know that the 2016 detour was widely disliked for various reasons, but if what is said is true, that he didn’t want to disrespect the original, he has earned a bit of respect. That doesn’t change the fact that the film produced was a lemon. But you are allowed to fail occasionally. The main problem the movie ended up with apart from the reboot issues is that the dislike took on political undertones, and at least parts of the cast was happy to play along.

Never argue with the audience. They ultimately pay your salary. Captain Marvel and the Marvels both flopped. Largely because Cheese Larson and others laid into the paying MCU audience. Doctor Who is currently failing badly, because (imo justified) criticism of the poor script and weak plotlines was met with a barrage of borderline abuse from Ncuti Gatwa and a drag queen no one had heard of. People hate being lectured and spoken down to. Feig and others were unspeakably rude instead of taking the high ground and discussing the reasons people didn't like it like adults. If they had done so, we might be seeing a reappraisal of the film. They made such a reconsideration impossible by their attitude

That left a very sour and bitter taste in my mouth as well. The film as such is just bad, and can be tolerated as a dud. But the creators’ behaviour is harder to overlook. Nevertheless I tend to adhere to the philosophy of separating art from the artist, so I think I am far more forgiving than many, especially on the internet. That being said, I have very little interest in spending any mental effort, and even less, spending any money on revisiting that train wreck of a movie.

@@neilgodwin6531 Its so annoying as I loved Captain Marvel and especially The Marvels, after getting pretty much bored with the Marvel franchise. Ms Marvel was a breath of fresh air to me in general, especially loved the art style of mixing comic book like assets into the show, which is something I usually hate but it was done so tasteful.
@lancethefilmguy9392Ай бұрын
@neilgodwin6531 That is exactly what I said. Most of the problems of that film were basically the reactions of the cast and director of the movie. Instead of doing what you said, they went after people simply because they didn't like the trailer. Furthermore, the impact that Afterlife had made those who were behind Answer The Call felt guilty for not respecting the audience.

Agreed. I normally enjoy Feig’s films, but thought that GB: Answer the Call was a frequently illogical movie that insulted everyone’s intelligence while unfairly targeting men. It also forgot that Ghostbusting, while heroic and glamorous on occasion, is usually hazardous, sweaty, disgusting, scary (and not just because of the ghosts), underpaid work.

The first time I wattched the movie was on my grandma's crappy little TV back when I was 6 or 7. I got immediately hooked by the moivie. The packs, the CAR, the overall atmosphere.. Began a ghosthead this very day. I saw all the other movies in theaters, and at one time I wore the hell out of my VHS as I was watching GB1 or 2 ON A DAILY BASIS. Since then I never ceased to love this franchise.

Ghostbusters has huge potential! I would love to see other GhostBuster movies made. When GB 2016 came out, I wrote a script on how to fix it. Maybe I will share that story later. Other co-workers loved it, but said they didn't like GB 2016 movie enough to save it. For a new GB movie plot: The dates of the Gozer temple are very important. I was writing a script that tied in real life into the 1883, 1908, and 1945 dates. It connected how Egon knew "don't cross the streams" and Ray picking up instantly on the "total protonic reversal", how it closed the last two previous Gozer portals. My script was based on Gozer being the precursor of a larger entity who allowed Gozer to secure the realm first. Because Gozer didn't return, it meant Gozer was the dominion of earth ushering in this new adversary. So understanding what Egon had been researching leads to the library lady holding the secrets to total protonic reversal of another Mad Scientist who closed an internal dimensional portal in Tunguska 1908. These group of paranormal inquisitors were in-part some of the inspiration Egon and Ray had when they met in college. The concept of crossing the streams originated from interconnecting beams of lights. One beam was a transmitter and the other was a receiver, but both connected through the ionosphere to conduct massive high frequency spectral power. Since the ionization rate of ghosts were not discovered at this time, the thought was to create an overwhelmirng beam of ionized particles to change the ionization of the ghosts, then overwhelm the ghost ionization with supercharged electrostatic spectral frequencies. Connecting two light beams together caused the underpowered receiver to act as a backfire conduit for the stronger beam. Hence crossing the beams meant one would overpower the other and cause the weaker beam to explode gat thre speed of light as it did in Tunguska 1908 (still a misunderstood event) Using the magnetic north the team set up the weaker beam aligned to the magnetic north to create an Aurora Borealis effect of which the stronger transmitter aimed at the magnetic north of the Aurora Borealis, this created an around the globe charged firing weapon into the Tunguska Gozer portal. The library lady was given the plans charged with safeguarding these secrets in a book the librarian ghost lady is often seen reading. She was murdered to obtain the backfiring protonic reversal device. But after death, she warned the team that Ivo Shandor was hunting them after making contact through a spirit listening device in a high frequency laboratory in New York she knew about. Nikola Tesla's life spans through 1883 to 1943. Tesla read many books his father gave to him, one was about ancient Samarian gods and Tesla was fascinated with the paranormal (essentially copying Dan Aykroyd's life fascination in the paranormal). Tesla used his earthquake machine to create the 1883 Krakatoa eruption to stop Gozer the first time as a cover for traveling abroad. Then Tesla created a weapon which would vaporize spectral entities instead of trapping them (a divergence of Ghostbusters trapping them to escape later). This technology was shared only with a few people including the librarian ghost lady. The 1945 return of Gozer leads the crew to operate the portal closing device, but without the inventor who died 2 years prior. The portal is closed, but kill the remaining two crew who were also being hunted down by Ivo Shandor. So the only one who knows of this technology is a dead librarian (of whom the GB have not caught). The 1945 plan to stop Gozer succeed, but Ivo barely excaped. I've Shandon rebuilt the penthouse in the first GB movie. Ray and Winston help the new GBs and GB engineering redesign the Storage facility to parcel out Gozer into separate containers and figure out how to extract partial entities from the firehouse storage facility. The GB group have to study what Egon had knowledge of and talk with the librarian ghost lady for the secrets to stop this new advisory. The Ghostbusters will have to build a new mobile platform and find a way how to power the protonic reversal device from their collective creative geniuses. It could be a two part movie. Everything listed is based on real science and an alternate Nikola Tesla theory to the Tunguska blast that fits in nicely to the back story of Egon, Tesla, the librarian lady, and the Ghost Corps universe. What are your thoughts?

The problem with the all female movie was that it came about in this time when everyone was pushing this DEI situation. People largely are sick of having that pushed down their throats and the comments of the makers of the movie and the cast just made it worse. It is a phenomena that continues even today with apparently no end in site.

Precisely. Keep in mind that 2016 was also an election year, like 2024. Once Trump won the first time, the media exploded with Hollywood trying to preach to the audience who dared disagree with them

I didn't pan the 2016 Ghostbusters because of any issues with women or any ethnicity, I actually find all of the cast to be very funny. However, I hated the thought that they were recasting the original characters and completely destroying the previous universe that was created. I would have loved to have seen all of the same cast doing new characters with their own personalities putting a unique spin on them. It was a missed opportunity from them, but I never regretted not seeing it. I had too much respect for the original material to want to take part in its destruction, I just wished the studio had thought the same.

It's looking absolutely beautiful but still in the process of building it, I'm trying to be as close as possible to making what the production team for the second movie called a "semi hero" which mine will be my own personal version but also keeping it movie accurate. There's only one great Ghostbusters movie. The second movie was ok and pretty good compared to the last thirty years of movies, but far from the original. Still, I'm glad to have the sequal. The 2016 movie was an insult. The newer two are basic movies that although are decent compared to modern movies, do not stand up to the standard set by the original at all. Sadly, we only got one amazing Ghostbusters story, but at least they caught it on video and we can watch it whenever we want.

Where do people get get this idea that someone has the right to not be offended. No. People can decide to be offended about anything. Nobody has an obligation to care or even think about the feelings of others so I suggest people care less about the opinions of others. People have no obligation to like you. As long as someone isn't hurting you physically (your feelings don't matter) or; financially. Just move on.
