I am experiencing everything you explained with the exception that I cannot put pressure on my heel at all without extreme pain, which sometimes radiates up the back of my leg. I am walking with crutches to keep from using my foot. I have not had any trauma. I just woke up one morning and it was hurting.

My success varies with 3 strategies:- 1. 2 x Voltaren Rapid 25 (quick relief, lasts a day or two if not exercising) 2. Acupuncture with electricity, then apply Zheng Gu Shui ointment afterwards. (4 - 5 visits works well until you exercise) 3. Shockwave therapy (4 - 5 visits, painful but effective with exercise management) Ultimately, I have flare ups with exercise, and great success if not exercising! The time between flare-ups is shortest at point 1, then 2 and longest with point 3 above. I've had it for 3 years. I do not have a bone spur. My exercise includes running and soccer.

No stretching for Retrocalcaneal bursitis! That’s exactly the wrong thing to do and only makes it worse! Rest for a couple of months, get a good shoe with a decent heel on it, and occasional icing helps. No zero drop shoes!

@@thermoplastischesaethylend1046: If it’s retrocalcaneal bursitis, yes, of course. But first, make sure that is, in fact, your diagnosis. There’s a big difference between retrocalcaneal bursitis and Achilles tendinopathy, and definitely a significant difference in the way they are treated.

@@pocopico7409 Didnt expect this fast answer. I'm extremely grateful. Can you please help me. Im suffering from "mild" (the MRT saix mild) retrocalcaneal bursitis, but also mid-portion achilles tendinopathy at the same time. Its already 1 year. The achilles pain is not hard to treat, but I dont know what to do about the Bursitis. Can you please give me tips, you seem to know about that. Im only 17 years old so I dont really know why I struggle with that. The only reason I can see that why Im not healing is maybe my heel lifts are sometimes much too high and I dont have proper house shoes and the ones I use are slippers and hard to balance my feet on. Any tips? I am mentally sick of it, I just want to be able to go outside with my friends more often. Had it for 1 year almost already.

Thanks doc. I get this from walking 12,000-17,000 steps a day mostly golfing. Started 3 weeks ago. If I take it easy it goes away. It’s the occasional jog or walking steep hills that gets it flared up.

Sorry but I don’t think he knows anything about how to treat bursitis… totally vague generalising when it came to the most important part… no detail of treatment or techniques. Example: he mentions stretching, but any good expert knows that certain types of stretching will aggravate and worsen this condition. Please research more opinions and if you feel things not getting better, don’t stick with the same advice or therapist/doctor, keep moving and getting other opinions until you feel results happening.
