I have no bump at all, but the pain is definitely in the "bursa" area. I got hit in that exact spot by a very heavy metal door and the door stop cut the area very deeply. I didn't do anything about it and it took forever to heal and that is where the pain is. I also wear backless shoes and flip-flops 24/7 (California beach gal) so I think all of this combined is the cause. I just don't know what to do. Saw my Kaiser podiatrist and amy see a different on from a different hospital. I can't sleep in the boot...ugh...and just live with it but any suggestions you have would be awesome. My pain level is pretty constant but a 4/10 so I ignore it and hope it will vanish on it's own.

*Cut out the back of your shoe* I've had this for over a decade. If your shoe doesn't rub on it, your pain will go away. Literally no one notices that the back of my shoe is cut out. I wear 1 size larger winter boot, or soft back. Can tolerate some rubber boots for winter. Just cut the back out.

Great video. I had a couple bouts of pain in my heel so bad it literally crippled me for weeks at a time. After x-rays and exams, a doctor AND podiatrist misdiagnosed me - plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. They gave me these calve stretches to do, similar to advice I’d seen on other videos (heel drops, wall stretches). They stressed arch support in shoes. I spent big money on orthopedic shoes. It kept coming back. Turns out I had heel bursitis - something no one had mentioned. I stopped the calf stretching and bought simple heel raisers on Amazon for less than 20 US dollars and it's worked like a miracle.

I’m sure I’ve finally found what has left me racked with pain for several weeks now. Thank you. In this case, it did not manifest over time, but in one brief instant. I am on my feet all day, every day at work or for recreation. I suppose this was inevitable, but I should be quite spry at 35. I was breaking down some odds and ends of firewood for smoking and miscalculated the force needed to crack a few in half via a good ol’ fashioned heel stomp. Went right through and put the full force directly onto concrete. Recoiled instantly in pain. Something was definitely wrong. X-ray at Doctor next day. Just bruising, possible stress fracture. Heel should heal properly on its own...just have some down time for 2-4 weeks. No chance. Especially at this time; that’s entirely unaffordable. I’ve been hobbling around, hiding my awkward gait whenever possible. I’m going to purchase insoles in the morning. I hope the insoles, combined with mild stretching will do the trick. I cannot go on like this for much longer. Thank you for the information.

Greetings from Turkey. I am dealing with this problem / pain for almost 8 years. I think this video shares the most useful things to help for treatment. I am now 100% sure that my problem is "retrokalkaneal bursit" . I have a haglund bump and the pain is very near to the area that heel bone and achilles tendon meets. Within these years, I got physiotherapy, I had an injection once (4 years ago), pyhsio again, strengthening, etc... Pain goes, and comes again. In the past months it got worse, the bump got a little bit bigger and I cannot play football for a long time because of the pain. Many doctors cannot address the problem correctly. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for the wonderful diagram you drew on your foot! What a fantastic idea!! I was fishing about 4 months ago and I was walking up a very steep incline with rods in one hand and tackle in another and I remember feeling my right heel rrrrreeeeally stretch at a hyper extended forward angle, after that it was sore the next day but felt better after a few days. But ever since then I get soreness about once every 3-4 weeks. I had a cramp at night the other night and the next morning I literally could not step on my right foot and for almost 2 days I was limping around the house. I saw your video, iced it, elevated it at night, and took anti inflammatories and its now much much better. To make a short story long (LOL) your video really helped me out. For months, up until a couple days ago, I had such pain and tightness back there when I'd rotate my foot/ankle (particularly inward rotation in attempt to loosen. Not sure if the issue was bursa or tendon. I only know that after I received prayer for healing, it went away. This is the second time I've had long time chronic foot related pain, and had it healed through prayer. I'm all for seeing a doctor, and have (chiropractor who specializes in feet). I'd like to know what caused it, so I can prevent it.
@rzentz96903 жыл бұрын
I know you can’t diagnose from a comment, but I’ll ask this: my pain is almost exclusively at the 90 degree angle where the back of the leg meets the plantar surface of the heel. The bursa looks to be a bit superior to where I have pain. Almost no pain, except for more extreme stretch positions like downward dog. I’m active and stretch calf/Achilles daily. The pain started on vacation where we hiked every day in the Pacific Northwest, mountains and beaches. No pain with walking/hiking though. Strange. Now 2 weeks after vacation, stretching seems to be making it worse, so bursitis seems to explain my problem. Need to see a podiatrist I guess!

Wow, we appreciate the kind words and your watching. This could potentially be something called insertional achilles tendonitis. We see great results with a little bit of a heel lift like a Brooks beast or brooks ghost style shoe with an over the counter orthotic. Sometimes changing the elevation of the heel for a few months can make that pain improve while stretching kicks in. We wish you good health! Always get checked out with a doctor for a specific problem, but from personal experience if someone can start with a lighter weight and has no pain they can usually progress up in weight to see if their maximum causes stress there. Great video. Any suggestions on how to stretch the calf without aggravating the bursa?

This looks to be my issue. Time to see a podiatrist. Mine is super painful. I am an athlete and within my BMI. The cause is likely a trauma of some kind, overuse, or over-compensation after having PF surgery. I also experience throbbing pain while laying down in the same area, I assume this is just a severe time of inflammation when this occurs? Thanks for the video!!!

When you get into your 30s that's when you'll start to get these type of functional injuries. And this has been kicking my ass this year. It's really annoying ☹️

im just recreational runner, this happen to me lately in this week. my heel around that insertion and heel bursitis doesnt swollen or feel pain, but it feel weird when i stretch that achiles straight (heeldown), then feel is gone for a while, after i try again few minutes it feel back. perhaps it might cause from last week overstretch or repititive uphill sprinting. im dont have coach or even running partner. mostly my partner is youtube video. now im in resting mode give it to heal.

This was such a helpful video. Thank you for sharing. I saw my Podiatrist and he said it's calcification but I got hit by a very heavy door in the exact spot where the pain is. It cut deep and took forever to heal, but, there is no bump (spur) just pain. I think I'm going to try and see a different podiatrist and see what they say as it's the "bursa" area that you drew on your foot that hurts. I also live in sandals and flip-flops and backless shoes all the time (Southern California beach bum) and don't want to give them up. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you again for such an informative and pleasant video.

I have a heel spur and run approximately 55 miles per week and found that wearing running shoes with heel counters, particularly on faster workout days cause the bursitis to flare up. There are some shoes without heel counters and some runners cut out the heel counter.
@DrTomBiernacki4 жыл бұрын
For a lot of patients with this problem even lifting 2-3mm or tilting the heel cut slightly can make all the difference. But heavy duty running with a heel spur is more.on the unique side for sure, so the standard cookie cutter solution may not always work!

Gel padding, lifting, minimalist shoes, changing cadence, different heel cups and counters, different lacing patterns can all make a difference for sure!

This is the exact injury I got when I went snowboarding too much. I overworked it. I guess the solution is to massage it? And to take it easy on it to let it heal.

Well crap, I'm waiting on my MRI results, but this video concludes my weeks-long researches: I have pain in the exact two locations mentioned, back of heel and inside near the tibialis posterior. That is exactly it. I was worried about a potential achilles tear, given that I can't stand or walk, but can step on the ball of my foot and hop around

My achilles tendon does not hurt if I rub on it. But I do have a pretty good bump and it hurts by touching it. When I walk when my heel is lifted off the ground that's when the pain happens. I literally have broken my ankle twice in my life and this time I was walking in a customer's yard carrying a ladder and I stepped into a hole that was two months ago. Don't have insurance so I have to live with it but thanks for the video at least I know what the issue is

I have a lot of heel pain and was diagnosed with both heel bursitis and heel spurs in both heels. I'm 60 years old and I've been in pain for about six months. Doctor said aside from surgery to exercise and get better fitting shoes. He said the bursitis might go away but the spurs will be there until I get surgery. It's my understanding that spurs by themselves do NOT cause heel pain but bursitis does. Is that correct?
@jordan75272 жыл бұрын
Yea I had pain, let it go, realized it was the more minimum shoes, got stability plus shoes but cant run in them since I’m letting the swelling go down. It’s been 10 days and I’m still not there yet. Hope it goes away and doesn’t come back. Guess I’ll have to stretch now since 10 plus years i’ve never stretched. I think it’s been 3 years in the minimum shoes. Good news, I have a really nice road bike for 20/30/10 mile rides sat/mon/thu. Bad news I have an academy I have to go to in february and hope this doesn’t affect that.
