Another advantage to not having a windshield you might mention: With the new brakes, you won't smoosh your face into it!
@johndenton5555
@johndenton5555 Жыл бұрын
Add the advantages of never having to clean a missing windshield, replace wiper blades, or refill the windshield washer reservoir, and, in reverse you can spit through it. not advisable while going forward, where 'blowback' becomes a concern.😁👍🇺🇸😎

Many years ago my cousin and I added a hydro vac to his old one ton truck that he used for work and we had the same issue with the pedal pushing/kicking back,. We added about a quart size vacuum reserve can to it that we mounted on the fire wall, and also added a check valve between the can and the intake manifold and it solved the issue.

The brake hydrovac appears to be a PBR (VH44) or a copy of a PBR, they were available with a remote air filter for when they were mounted under a vehicle. They had an adaptor to take a hose and then they had a snorkel high up in the engine bay. You can mount them higher than the master cylinder but you need a residual pressure valve. I can send you a copy of the service manual if you need it.

BTW, the vacuum fitting on the hydrovac is the check valve.

it is a very important advice, to avoid internal corrosion of the unit, it is mandatory that the air make up would be located where it won't suck water droplets when the vehicule is driven.

You sound like me 'explaining' to my sons what and why I was doing things while working on vehicles and equipment. I blew so much smoke up their behinds it forced them to figure out the ACTUAL why and what for themselves - 'It CAN'T work like THAT Dad, it COULD work like this though -and I'd listen...see if on right track, or say well, could it be this, or that? ' - they would get it right, even if I had to nudge them in the right direction. It might be a gas to hang out, fix something and blow a bit of smoke up KZbin while doing the work.😁 👍🇺🇸😎

You made that look fun! I should probably do a similar thing on my old car. I like things simple, though. I'm going to keep this in the back of my mind. My master cylinder had a piece in the end that seemed to convert it from bubble to double flare. It was kind of pointy on both ends.

Always love to see old Jeeps getting up to par. I worked at a parts store for several years, and I cannot tell you how many bubble to 45 adapters I had sold. I think they made them illegal for some reason, either that or the part just aged out of production. Keep up the good work.

I suggest you would be better off running a breather tube from the hydra vac to somewhere well above the water line. Relying on yourself or the next owner to remember that fording water will kill the power brakes seems like not such a great idea.

Does that booster have a check valve for the vacuum supply? If not, you only get full power at idle. WOT & engine off (ie: stalled) you get no assistance.
