One of the very rare videos where the player knows how to play an arch top & doesn't try to strum the top off, Lovely gentle touch on a fantastic guitar.
When I was a kid starting to learn jazz guitar this was THE guitar...

I’m in awe of this gentle playing and little clip demonstrates why we keep pressing on! I’d love to say I play like this but that will never be…..I’m content to marvel at this gentleman’s quiet skill on an instrument I can only dream and salivate over!!👏👏

This demonstration shows why a D'Angelico archtop is the king of archtops. This man's playing shows he understands how it is supposed to be played

Magnificent sounding guitar . Everything about it is perfect .This is the standard that every archtop should strive for ! In the future guitars by D'Angelico will reach Stradavarious prices !

Beautiful playing of "Darn That Dream" and that's an amazing guitar find, Wow!
This is what a great archtop should sound like. Warm and round AND crisp at the same time with a distinct and obvious separation between treble and bass response. You don't need a trained musical ear to hear the complexity of the sound coming from this instrument.
I bought the new version of that guitar about 6 years ago. Its build quality is “acceptable,” despite not being made in the USA. It doesn’t have the most comfortable fretboard in the world, but with practice, you can get used to it. The acoustic sound is good, but the piezoelectric pickup in the bridge produces a very sharp sound. I eventually decided to add a floating mini humbucker in the neck position, just like the Excel 1; I also installed the corresponding potentiometers on the pickguard, and by reducing the treble, I was finally able to achieve a much better amplified sound.

Holy Mother of G-d. That is what an acoustic archtop can really sound like. Sadly, I haven't at the moment the undoubtedly staggering wherewithal needed to secure one of these. Whatever the going rate is(I'm not sure I even want to know), it's worth it. How can an acoustic guitar have such a gorgeous, complex, just absolute golden sound? I hope it continues to be played and played and heard by as many ears as possible.
