Cool reproduction disks. Where do you get those blank labels that are just the right size?
@RetroHackShack2 жыл бұрын
They are Avery 6490. amzn.to/3xGdero I haven't been able to to find the right size to fold over the back part of the disk, but these work pretty well.

I've got a MiniScribe 8425SA where the C3 tantalum also nuked itself near a 0.5Ω resistor which cracked but is OK. The resistor that burned also looks like yours (yellow, bulbous, DALE) but is on the other side of the board, near the +12V input to the board. Sort of glad someone else had the problem and documented it. I'd gotten to about the same point but don't have a spare drive to check on (and the burned resistor is blocked by the Molex connector, so I have to desolder that in order to get to it.) I will check your reply to the other comment and see if that value is sane; at least I'll have a spare one on hand so I can feel a little safer snipping this one out! Thanks for the great video.

@@RetroHackShack So far so good - I got the old resistor out. On this one, it is also a 1Ω - and it tests out as 25 to 26Ω out of circuit, yikes

23:43 I was moving that mouse over to the left SE as well. Almost like the passenger stomping the brake. 😂 It wasn’t working. Great video. Over the years I’ve passed up so many of these. My mother retired as a teacher and worked an after school program, watching kids who’s parent worked. Anyhow the janitor always offered her the old computers and tech they were throwing away, I always got first dibs. I wish I knew what I do now, and had a place to store them. Now I vision the day of finding one in the wild.

Oldest computer I still have from the wild. Laser486sx. 25th Anniversary StarTrek edition. It was still in the box but, sitting in front of a donation box in rain, destroyed it. But the pc had never been booted. The set of Rtc batteries were still in plastic. Boot first go, well after a week of drying. I absolutely love it. Don’t need no retro-Bright. It is the brightest white box I have. Thanks for taking up my time, and relieved some of this stress I have. Enjoyed every minute. Now back to life. God Bless.

Wow. I have been offered some school computers and they are running old intel CPUs that no one wants now. I wonder if they will become desired after another 15 years or so. :-P

@@RetroHackShack I’ve only seen the box in magazine advertising it. I actually had a choice when I stumbled app on it. There was also a 5150 siting with it but I was walking and had a couple more miles to go. So I picked up the laser. The poor thing probably has half gallon of water pour out of it. Nice workout though. It’s amazing what God puts in my path on stormy days. I’ve got some stories.

Hello from London, UK. Great videoWhat is the value of that burnt-out resistor please? I have a similar Miniscribe HD that has a burnt out resistor next to an SMD tantelum cap of 22 16V. It is clearly a common problem. Thanks.
@RetroHackShack2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind this may be completely different on your drive, but this is the one I ordered. Make sure you test and replace the bad tantelum, too. www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/vishay-dale/CMF551R0000FKEA/3622037

@@RetroHackShack Wow! Thank you for the incredibly fast reply! I understand and accept that the component might be different. It is dead now anyway so it is not going to cause any more harm with the wrong resistor. Thank you once again!
