It wasn't an Ork pilot, iirc they had Grots wired into it and sometimes they got crazed with power and started having a go at the Orkys lol. I remember getting one back in the day, really loved that thing

It is a great model mate 👍🏻 Regarding the pilot as an ork or a gretchin I'll look into that when I do the Retrohammer Episode on this as I have a feeling that came a bit later than the original article on dreadnoughts in WD 100.

1st edition ork dreadnaughts had an ork pilot. The pilot was only loosely wired in, while permanently attached if the dread' is destroyed the pilot can get out and is a regular ork again.

Me too! I think that was the first GW boxed set I ever bought. Such lovely models which still look great today.

yeah its a grot pilot, there was a speal in one of the ork books about how when a grot is wired into a dreadnought suit he would go and find the orks that used to pick on him and give them a 'good what for' ;) That robot is fucking awesome sauce. I wish I kept all my old robots, I had x4 of each class. I sold all 16 of them for 160 bucks in about 2004 or 2005ish.... Wish I kept them they would of fit in well with my Xana II HH mechanicum army..... LE SIGH.

I didn't see my first 40k mini till sometime around 2010 probably, so these look so foreign to me, but it's cool seeing the origins of everything! Can't say that I have an urge to collect them as I don't have that nostalgia factor, but I can certainly appreciate what that's probably like for yourself!

That's great to hear. These miniatures must seem like they are from a different age to you, and in a way they were. I'm having some fun re-visiting these figures after all these years, and sharing them and my experience of them at the time is enjoyable.

So Cool! Funny - I only recently found out about Crusaders via the "Vorax" automata I recently purchased. It's my favorite sculpt from FW although the Moritat comes close. The preying Mantis is my favorite animal, though, so go figure...
