Absolutely. I remember in 7th grade, trade-borrowing cartridges with a classmate friend. I remember borrowing Kaboom, River Raid, Enduro,and Pitfall. I also remember a friend of a friend bringing over Keystone Kapers. Many years later, I bought this Compilation Activision Atari 2600 games disc for my Ps2. WoW, talk about Fun and reliving the good ole 1980's..!! That compilation game-disc for Ps2 is Phenomenal. Currently, my Ps2 has been out of order, for Quite some time. No wonder I'm basically chronically depressed. : /

It's from 1984. I am aware that the crash started during 1983, but it was during 1984 when the general public really started seeing the mass destruction. During 1983 there were still normal video game commercials on TV and hundreds of new releases for eight different consoles. By 1984, the only consoles getting new releases were Atari 2600 and Colecovision and only about 20 releases in total for them (the biggest game being Pitfall 2, a really great game that had the misfortune of being released during the video game wasteland of 1984). Everything else was dead and this liquidation commercial was what was happening during 1984. Most of the general public was unaware there was a crash during 1983, but they definitely knew during 1984 when the mass destruction became VERY noticeable.
@d.vaughn899013 күн бұрын
From what I read, during the crash. Atari was still bringing in $10 million per month, from 2600 game sales. So Atari was still selling games - but not enough to get them out of the red…not even close! I will attempt to find the article and post a link - or make a redaction if I misremembered.

I eventually accumulated 28 game cartridges by the summer of 1984, and then I wound up selling it a few days after Thanksgiving of that year. I Very Much Regret doing that. I sold it so that I'd have enough money to purchase the Next Level Hot System at that time(The Commodore 64). Decisions Decisions as thee ole saying goes.

It's accurate too. I remember visiting my aunt and uncle's house and my whole extended family would play Atari. Home video games were a new thing back then and I think that is the reason. Of course, I was too young to realize that they were new! The games were designed to be played together, either simultaneously or players would take turns as each game didn't take very long to play out before your "turn" was over.
