So I tried playing JUMP FORCE In 2023...

I find Jump Force to be one of the most fascinating games to drop during the last generation. A fighting game with a roster that serves as the culmination of over 15 manga hosted in a real world setting. It's so weird that it's appealing. Unfortunately, the release didn't pan out well and ultimately led to the game going offline as well as being delisted. Jump Force will become a rare game as time moves forward, so let's dive in and see what to make of its strengths and weaknesses.

This reminds me of how Crossover Games are very popular in Japan. Many IPs aren't afraid to do crossovers, and one of the primest examples is Super Robot Wars, a Mecha Crossover Strategy which gathers a bunch of Mecha Anime Characters and put them in one game where they can interact with each other. And then theres the one of the 3DS, to which I remember one thing, Majima seeing Tiki from Fire Emblem and saying "I would've jumped into the portal long ago had I known there was hot babes in another universe."

Jump super stars / jump ultimate stars were the 2D predecessors to this game. Jump Ultimate Stars is a top fighting game of all time for me. Highly recommend if you haven’t checked it out.

I missed out on the last few of the DLC, but I’m glad to own the ones I did manage to get. Up until Todoroki, and then I just stopped paying attention to the game and hadn’t realized more characters had released, but by that time it was too late 😬 the completionist in me is pained by not having the entire roster, but Kaiba was the only one I even really cared about and he was first so that was perfect. I wish Ryuk had made the roster, I know it wouldn’t have made much sense for him to fight, but it would have been a cool “what if?” Situation.

I actually liked this game for all of its flaws. It has since been delisted due to all the licenses expiring. 2024 is Jump's 55th anniversary, so hopefully we get an announcement for the next game soon. A sequel was teased during the final post-game missions. I thought we would have gotten a reveal during Summer Game Fest, as Microsoft's E3 showcase was when Jump Force was revealed. Maybe we'll see it at Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show. Also, those Jump Stars Ultimax "leaks" are totally bogus.

This game had a lot of potential. The gameplay isn't bad and I actually have a decent amount of fun playing it against my friends. But it's not perfect and in some ways, leaves a lot to be desired. The visuals are just… bad. If the game had even a fraction of the visuals of what we've seen from the recent Budokai Tenkaichi teaser, it would've been 1000% better than what we got. I'm not gonna pretend a game like this could've had an amazing story, but almost anything could've been better than what we got. It needed more time to polish animations, fix the bugs and glitches, and much more. Also, the create a character is cool, but by the time this game came out, it felt played out so I would've personally not included it. Also, fun fact for people who don't know, before Bleach came back with it's anime adaptation of the Thousand Year Blood War arc, this was actually the first time we saw Ichigo, Rukia, and Renji from the war arc, outside of the manga. So the stuff you seem them do in the game, hadn't even been adapted yet for people who only saw the anime. And if you didn't know that, that was a huge freaking deal!

i liked jumpforce. mainly for the story mode and character customization. it felt really good making a character that looked like me, and having my chatacter interact with everybody from shonen jump. as far as the dlc goes i was disappointed in the end. i don't like paying for dlc in the 1st place, but if i had to i really wanted other characters to be in the game. yoh asakura, bobobo bo bo bobo, even that anime character stan lee made for shonen jump called ultimo. i remember the trailer for this game and when they showed light and ryuk i really thought they were gonna let us play as them. i don't know how it would work, but i was disappointed that they didn't. lol

The reason you can see ryuk is because your character in the game technically died. My second theory is that the onyx books are death notes. Since your character has one of the cubes made from the onyx books that could be another reason you can see ryuk.

My theory is that the character from the game is from the real world, and people from the real world who read/watch death note can see Ryuk so there's no reason why player character can't see him... its a pretty meta explanation but the games goes pretty meta in the finals 10-15 minutes 😂

I think another big thing missing from the game is selectable/changeable iconic moves and outfits for the actual roster and not just the playable character. Like let me play different versions of characters with different moves (I.E. Ninja Storm)

I got this game as a gift for Christmas 2019, and then got both of the fighter passes on PS4, and then I bought the game and all its DLC on PC, so I'm good. Anyways, Hyoga, Shun and/or Ikki should've been in the game along with Kinnikuman and Joseph Joestar. Other than that, the low budget story mode, and the uncanny artstyle, I don't mind this game. It's one of those fun couch multiplayer games.

The game sold incredibly well (I'm not even joking, just look at the sales on google) it was delisted because of Dragon Quest Dai or Yugi and license right. These 2 mangas are not only Shueisha's property but also respectively Square Enix and Konami. So Bandai probably had to deal with a bigger and expensive contract in order to put Dai and Yugi/Kaiba in this game. This is the reason why the previous game (J-stars) is still avalaible despite having FAR less sales and popularity. I still think the gameplay is far better than most of the 3D arena fighters, while I agree with you on the fact that it encourages cheese instead of skill, if you have played with good players (and I mean people who are still playing since 2019), you will see what is so good about the gameplay mechanics. A lot of things are not written in the tutorial, a lot of "combos" and synergy are only possible if you spent a lot of time in the training mode. Spamming super and square is only a beginner thing, this game is more about your position on the map (in order to dash or jump to dodge an attack) and mixes-up your opponent with light attack, heavys, down/up tilt, grab, supers to trick your opponent + other tech that the game doesn't tells you. Even escaping combo's ask the players to be good at timing and how/when to use efficiently stamina's bar. Without stamina you can't dash, escape, counter attack and you have only one "permutation/escape" before it get consummed. PS : I hate the story mode and the Art direction of the game...

if you're desperate pirated versions of this game work fine and the mods that go with it haven't caused me many problems yet, like any pirate it's the download I used came with some caveats, just a 3rd party downloader to make it go faster and transfer without corrupting, but regardless of any firmware I may have overlooked it has no kinks (no online is tough but lets be honest, no one had fun online anyway) Gameplay does feel clunky too forsure but compared to some 3D fighting games it has a decent skill gap with secret and discoverable tech all be it alot of assist tech but combos would be insane if not for the combo limit

I know the game was discontinued, but is there any damn way to get it for xbox one in 2023 with all DLC characters? I had the game on PS but my PS4 broke...I never managed to get that last bit of DLC so I didn't have the last of the DLC characters. Now I have Xbox and I found out the game was discontinued 3 days after it was announced that it was no longer available. Frustrated af about this to this day, I never cared about the online stuff but I really want to play the game again but with all the characters...not sure what to do from here.

Had a lot of dumb fun with this game and enjoyed getting the 100% completion (for the most part). Those S Ranks were a real pain at times tho.

No lie I'm thinking Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is going to be Jump Force 2 with only DragonBall characters to avoid licensing issues and increase longevity of the game.

To this day I don't understand how Bandai developed everything right, including the most difficult parts in a game, but completely messed up the most basic thing: gameplay. Especially after having more than a literal decade of experience in arena fighters.

Well and shutting it down quickly. Shounen jump games should be the smash bros of anime games. They should be easy slam dunks that they then ask other manga companies to join in on.

2k hours i play of this game. My main: kurosaki ichigo. I played Jump force through out beta to release and support shut down. Jumpforce, the Beta test october 2018 was better experience. This is what sold me about the game, I knew the story mode won't be great. I only care about the gameplay of the fight. The beta ver. Of the game was not clunky, it was very smooth, you can cancel supers that didn't have super armor even awakening ultimates. As for movement such as basic light and heavy and tilts attacks was so smooth you can cancel out of it by moving your character and gaurding. Alot of freedom. But then... That's taken away for them having in release the character to wait for there animation to end at EACH attack. Now at release, plus block was so dumb, the gaurding is bad you cannot move, I have my hands off the controller and watch my character just keep blocking from the opponent until he gets gaurd breaked as I watch him die. I just don't know Why did they remove guard push that had on the beta when goku Kamehameha pushes you away when gaurding. As a player, I don't recommend anyone jumping onto this game in 2023 and wait for a new one that hopefully is much improved. LIFE SHARE IS HORRIBLE. Also we want Jstars 2 big maps to enjoy with 3v3 players of teams!

I just bought this game and as someone who doesn’t watch anime this game is so much fun I don’t see how people say this is the worst anime game ever. I might not play any anime games but this is one of my favorite fighting games and I play a lot of them

You never watched Death Note up until now?! Kind of crazy. Are you going to watch LOGH now? Have you watched Code Geass? It's a mix between Death Note and Gundam. I feel like couple of scenes CG stole from Death Note. I have the same reason why i prefer games like Guilty Gear over Street Fighter. (I am talking about your comparison between Jump Force and Naruto Storm)

I believe another issue this game has and why they delisted the fans was for licensing issues. They have to keep relicensing shonen to keep the game up on stores.

Jump Force was one of those games I almost pulled the trigger on at launch. I'm so glad I waited to see what their plans were. As soon as I saw that they weren't going to dub it, it set off red flags. Then, there were the server issues being reported. It was a flop from the get-go.

Why they shit down the game Is a compl mystery to me. It was a sinple game where all you had to do was update the characters and update the way character’s fight and also add elements with effects on characters. Buffs and debuffs.

The loading time really takes a lot out of the excitement since it loads cinematic to fights and back to cinematic. Then reloading the same amount of time when you're picking rematch.
