poor shop owner has a lot of money invested in a fools business. the retro games market is a scam ran by some kind of retard mafia. there is a lot of hype for these products but the hype is also very shaky. meaning its more of an emotional hype than something substantial like fine art. these people who collect these games can often decide their entire collection is stupid and not personally valuable to them anymore. its a very volatile market which could all potentially be made worthless in the blink of an eye

Exactly, that is definitely not the type of business I would deal with, most people would bargain with you and you bargain back, instead it's just a toss up here, you really don't know what your paying because we have to throw it in a pile and figure it out later, not good sales technique, I think these people are great but at the end of the day I would not go there, just my opinion

You're right actually, I used the word "barter" when I should have used the word " haggle", which they did. Doing business with a commodity that has no strict price guideline, haggle is the only thing you can do, so the shop owner is right in wanting to know what the buyer was willing to part with before agreeing. The price isn't what the buyer says, it's what the market will bear.

@@MikeTheGamer77 It's not awkward, it's called being tired of lowballer game collectors trying to get all your good shit for nothing to take an resell it. Why should he give a deal to any of them when he knows damn well they are going to resell it? When I go to stores of people that I respect, I pay their full asking price. That keeps them in business and shows I'm not a scumbag trying to take advantage of them.

@@thedadtris your logic makes 0 sense. If he's tired of low ballers why doesn't he just set a price? How ass backwards is it to be tired of low ball offers but force your customer to make the first offer? You seem about as coherent as the store owner.

Gotta take into account what the rare systems do for a store... word of mouth... "Hey I saw X over at Store" it brings people in to shop. Hence why many stores will put a stupid price on them. The fact that he was willing to part with that stuff is incredible. Great Store.

When I was a kid, in Walmart one time my brother and I saw that they had a skid of brand new Virtual Boys for $29.99 each. We bought one, and got some $9 games for it, and the AC adaptor. Still have it but no boxes. We only got 6 of the games I believe. My mother who was pretty anti-video game loved Galactic Pinball! The system still works great. I used to have kids in school tell me my eyes turn red after 15 minutes of playing it. haha, I used to say they could come over and have their eyes turn red too!

Miss the days of hitting the Goodwills almost every weekend and walking out with a shopping bag full of stuff for $20. Did it for years in the 90's. Filled up an entire bedroom floor to ceiling with all that stuff. Got tired of looking at it, and someone offered me a nearly new pinball machine for the whole mess of it in the early 2000s. It was a Tales of the Arabian nights. That got me collecting pinball machines, which were pretty cheap around that time. Between $750-$1500. Held on to them up until about 5 years ago, and let most of them go for a pretty massive down payment on a house. Never thought collecting that crap would lead to what it did!

The constant haggling makes me cringe. I understand wanting a good deal. But, as a shop owner, I would expect more understanding that other shop owners are also trying to make a living.

The owner was really starting to get on my last nerve, you couldn't get a straight answer from this guy. You got a tad ripped on some stuff he saw you coming a mile away... if you don't want to sell it don't put up for sale and quit playing games. Man I never been frustrated listening to a person rant mumble the way he did....smfh.

Owner is the master old school bazaar haggler. He approached the sale in this order: The first mention of the close: "you get a pile up and well talk about it" This immediately makes the buyer start a larger pile without worrying of the sticker shock, and leading to a bigger sale. After that it was broken down like this: 1. "You tell me" 2. "What do you think" 3. "I wasn't planning on letting this go" 1. He has fished for basic information to get the best deal possible while at the same time seeming like it is nothing more than just a deal to him. Diffuse and fish. 2. See the absolute value of everything in the customers eyes. 3. Before the finality of the deal the owner preempts the buyers expectations with how he sees these to have a hefty value, and almost an inconvenience for him to sell, even after he made the whole transaction just seem like an open carefree thing in the very beginning. A total flip flop but genius. A+ On the old man selling this guy.

My most vivid memory of the Virtual Boy is actually playing that stupid thing on a Delta flight in 1996 on our way to Orlando. If I could go back in time I would absolutely ask for a better christmas gift and wait until EBGames was selling a pile of them for $14.99 each, and bought like 5 of them and put them in the attic.

If a negotiation is nothing but smooth sailing, positive, easy going vibes, then one of the parties are most likely getting screwed. Ive had farmers and fisherman come in to buy high ticket negotiable items, and more often then not, then love love doing the back and forth. They may even call you every name in the book, but if you take your time, step by step like our boy Rick here did. They will end up being your best friend and even invite you over for dinner some time. Its really all part of the fun. 😉

One guy said in the background, "People are starting to go back to the older systems and games because the tech is simpler and doesn't require internet." HOW TRUE! MY THOUGHTS exactly! Modern day gaming is ruined. The internet ruined games. (among other things like corporate greed) I still remember waiting in line on Dreamcast launch night and going home to play NFL2K online, (dial up) I thought it was soo cool. Little did I know that it was the beginning of the end.
